We see a lot of talk in this sub about fear of waiting too late. Folks are scared that if they don’t start transition early, they won’t be able to transition to the degree they want to.
I want to post my experience as an example of another way of thinking, and encourage others to share their narratives too.
Before I knew what transgender people were, I wished I could have been born a boy. Birthday candles, shooting stars, lost eyelashes, all got the same wish. Let me wake up as a boy tomorrow.
I first heard about trans women when one was being interviewed by a local radio station host. The host asked when she knew she needed to “become a woman,” and I turned the volume right up. I was 15. I asked my mom immediately, “if she can become a woman, can I become a man?” My mom shut the radio off, and shut the conversation down.
In high school, I joined the Gay Straight Alliance, and put up flyers for TDOV and TDOR. I still didn’t grasp that I could be transgender, I just knew I was probably pansexual. I felt sympathy for transgender people, but had no idea how someone became transgender.
When I moved out of my mom’s house, and into my first safe environment, I started to have panic attacks. It turns out that your mind and body cannot process stress and trauma while it is still actively happening to you. You have to get away from it first. I hit a very low point, and I got professional help.
Through therapy, I was able to work on my past, and become accepting of myself as a person. I asked my therapist about gender. By this point, I knew plenty of transgender people in real life, and I had a feeling I might be one too. My therapist was also sure I was. I still waited.
I waited until I was 26 to start HRT, and I don’t regret it. I stayed at the lowest possible dose for 2 years, and am still at only half a standard dosage. I am intentionally taking it slow. I am happy to be taking it slow.
I have top surgery scheduled for December. I had the option to do it sooner, but I decided I would rather wait 10 months for the surgeon and procedure combination I wanted most. I hope to continue living in this body for decades to come; I don’t mind waiting a few extra months to get it just right.
When I look back at my younger self, I do not feel regret. Not in the slightest. I feel overwhelming love. I love the child I used to be, the confused teen, the scared young adult. I love the feminine me who put on makeup to make more sales at work. I love the little girl who only hung out with the boys. When I remember my younger self suffering emotional angst, wondering who will help them, I know that I am the answer. Every step I make in my transition now, honors the suffering of those people I was before. There is no regret, only thankfulness and compassion.
You do not need to worry about rushing forward. The only right timeline is the one that makes you happy. You will get to where you need to be, when you get there. You can start your transition at any age, and still delight in each little change you see.

Hi everyone. I've gleaned so much wisdom from this sub. I'm not sure if this is too personal to be posted here, but I have a question that's weighed heavily on me for some time: is it possible to maintain a healthy and happy marriage if your mother-in-law despises you?

I've been with my husband for nearly 10 years. We're college sweethearts. He's an awesome person--kind, smart, loyal, goofy, sweet, romantic. The works. He's my best friend and a great partner. We support each other's careers and goals, hang out with friends and neighbors, and enjoy a lot of overlap in our hobbies and passions. We've purchased a small home together and have a cat who we adore. In general, I feel grateful and lucky to be with him, and he regularly tells me how happy he is with me and how I'm the love of his life.

Of course, we have small fights here and there, but over the past decade, there has been one topic which has triggered potentially relationship-ending fights: his mom (my mother-in-law). Before I proceed, I want to put out a disclaimer that she is a good person with good qualities and I feel a debt of gratitude towards her for raising my husband. I don't want to demonize her. I'm just at the end of my rope. I've shed too many tears over this situation and I feel like I can't see a way out.

So, MIL was the only parent of ours that had an unhappy reaction to our engagement. Our other 3 parents (my mom and dad as well as his dad who is divorced from his mom) were all overjoyed and cried happy tears. His mom got very quiet. Then first thing she said was, "I thought you were already engaged!" which took the wind out of our sails. She followed that up with, "I guess I'll be having grandchildren soon!" which is another point of contention because we don't have kids yet (by choice) despite being together for so long. She boils this down to my fault. She angrily told him on multiple occasions, "you always wanted to be a father before you met her!" We were both approximately 20 years old when we met. Other things she's done behind my back:

• MIL instructed husband to "test me" before marrying me. She told him, "don't do whatever she wants you to do, and see how she reacts!" This may have been triggered by him telling her he's very happy with me. She told him in the middle of the afterwards that she "had a terrible dream about him" and wanted to know if he was okay with me.
• MIL told husband I "clearly need Jungian therapy" because I'm "out of touch with my dreams and my shadow", I might "need to be medicated", and she's "more emotionally mature and honest" than me due to her years of therapy and her age. For the record, I have had therapy and counselling, I have tried medication for anxiety, and I respect mental health treatment.
• I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called psoriatic arthritis by a rheumatologist. I went through blood tests and consultations. Flare-ups are occasionally very painful and physically off-putting. MIL verbatim told my husband, "she's probably faking her illness for attention or manipulation or something". I think maybe she was feeling insecure because her siblings and her ex-husband accused her of overexaggerating her health issues, so I get that she was triggered, but it was very painful to hear her comment via my husband. It is probably one of the meanest comments I've received in my lifetime. I was shocked and ruminated for a long time about why someone would think so little of my character.

There's much more, of course, as MIL has sent no shortage of "accidental" mean texts and impulsive emails ranting about me (typically sent midnight to 5AM because she "just can't fall asleep" thinking about me). Here's the thing: I've never had a negative interaction with her in person. She has always been polite. I have never even exchanged a text with her or had a call with her beyond generic well wishes for holidays and birthdays. However, because I am aware of this pattern of behavior she has exhibited behind my back over the past decade, I have increasingly declined most social invites from her. Of course, I never prevent my husband from going to family functions--he goes to maybe a dozen a year between holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals, etc. since he has a big family on both sides.

The kicker is, MIL constantly complains that I don't attend family functions, which to her indicates that I don't "make an effort to become part of the family". From our perspectives, we married each other, not our families. My family is much smaller, but when I hang out with them, my husband doesn't always tag along. He does not feel that I have an obligation to attend his family functions, but he does feel very angry and then sometimes sad when his mother (and increasingly sister) guilt trip him about me not visiting. MIL likes to say she's "lost a son" and SIL texted my husband that he is "the biggest disappointment of mom's life" and "he'll regret everything when she's dead."

I don't know what to do. I don't want to put my husband in the middle of this situation when his family so clearly despises me. In turn, I no longer want to interact with them. I love this man. I want our relationship to be happy and healthy. But the thought of having to interact with my MIL for the rest of my life is so anxiety-inducing that I honestly sometimes consider divorce. I am a people pleaser and conflict avoidant, and I understand these are not unassertive traits which don't lead to conflict resolution. I just don't know what confronting her would accomplish at this point and I fear it would make the situation much worse as she might feel criticized. I can't envision my MIL becoming a grandmother to my future children when she has already sent long angry texts about "just knowing" how I won't respect her as a grandma.

I'm so sorry I ranted so much. I thought I was going to be much more concise and organized with my thoughts. I would really appreciate any advice you guys have.

TL:DR Avila is a profitable oil and gas company in Canada with preferred, North American rights to the Ener-Twin consumer power plants. This clean technology is projected to generate gross sales of up to $25 million in 2024. Avila has entered into a business combination agreement to uplist to the Nasdaq through the $INAQ SPAC. I place the value of Avila around 30 cents US without the SPAC. Completion of the SPAC could put the share value at 85 cents US.
Because I see the company as being undervalued, and because Avila would also have to pay a penalty to break the agreement, I see this special situation as less risky at this price point. As a reminder, the PQTF peak gains on the prior three special situation stocks have been 146%, 889% and 1370%, but had major issues that if played incorrectly, could have cost people a lot of money. Avila Energy (CA: VIK, OTC: PTRVF), an established Canadian oil and gas producer, is on the verge of a potentially transformative merger that could bring immense rewards for its shareholders. The company has agreed to combine with Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) Insight Acquisition (NYSE: INAQ).
The proposed transaction, as detailed at the link below, will allow for Avila to up-list onto the Nasdaq, enhance its ongoing carbon-neutral business strategy, and further strengthen the capitalization of the company with an expected combined entity market cap of over $190 Million.
This article will discuss the specifics of the deal, Avila's potential to diversify its revenue stream, and how it presents a rare special situation investment opportunity that could potentially lead to a total return of 1450%.
A Breakdown of the Deal
The Avila and Insight Acquisition merger is a complex one, but is potentially extremely lucrative for existing Avila shareholders. Under the agreement, Insight will continue from the State of Delaware to the Province of Alberta and acquire Avila in an amalgamation pursuant to a court-approved plan of arrangement under Alberta law.
According to the agreement, the fully diluted common shares of Avila, currently numbering 150,540,414, will be exchanged for 12,580,000 common shares of Insight Acquisition. This exchange ratio translates to about 11.97 shares of Avila for each share of Insight Acquisition.
Avila shareholders will own the following interest in the post-closing combined company:
100% Redemption (Proceeds retained from trust of US$ 1,250,000) 67.2% by Avila's shareholders;
50% Redemption (Proceeds retained from trust of US$15,781,215) 62.4% by Avila's shareholders;
0% Redemption (Proceeds retained from trust of US$29,062,430) 57.9% by Avila's shareholders.
At present, Avila shares trade at USD $0.0588 (5.88 cents), while Insight Acquisition shares trade at USD $10.23. However, given the merger and based on the exchange ratio, the post-merger price for each Avila share is projected to rise to around $0.855. This implies a staggering potential increase of up to 1450% for Avila shareholders, and forms the basis of the arbitrage opportunity that Avila presents as a special situation investment.
Avila Energy and Its Future
Looking beyond the merger, Avila Energy presents an interesting opportunity as a stand-alone company
Avila's strategic growth plan is divided into three phases:

1. Upstream, where it plans to invest towards becoming a low-cost, carbon-neutral energy producer.
   
2. Downstream, diversifying its revenue stream through the development of direct-to-consumer sales, aiming to boost demand, margins, and profitability.
   
3. Providing customers with the option to convert to Avila’s developing hydrogen-fueled solutions, expected to be commercially available in 2027, as part of its Corporate Vision.
   

The company has a diversified and growing portfolio of 100%-owned and operated wells, three oil and natural gas processing facilities, 150,000 acres of leased exploration rights, and over 300 kms of gathering and sales pipelines.
The P&L displays robust numbers with $3.08 M in net revenue, more than 50% margins, with the majority of the revenue attributable to clean burning natural gas.
Avila currently has a 2P valuation of CAD $30.7 Million and a 1P valuation of CAD $7.8 Million with a current market cap of CAD $8.9 Million. As of year-end 2022, the company also had CAD $6.5 Million of cash, CAD $2.067 Million of Debt, and a positive shareholder equity of CAD $53.17 Million. These third-party audited reserves, as presented below from Deloitte, are a vast value relative to the company’s current market cap.

Clean Energy Future
Moreover, beyond being a traditional oil company, Avila is set to launch its “Vertically Integrated Energy Business, through its partnership with MTT. Supported by over a decade of R&D, including Avila's equity investment in Micro Turbine Technology (MTT), this venture promises to leverage innovative cleantech. Avila is aiming to deliver its first direct-to-consumer energy sales in North America in 2023. It also is targeting net-zero tier 3 (scope 3) CO2 emission energy for consumers by 2027.
The EnerTwin is a small, environmentally friendly power plant that simultaneously produces heat and electricity using the smallest gas turbine in the world. It runs on natural gas, LPG, biomethane, and hydrogen mixes, and thereby facilitates the energy transition to a low-carbon future in buildings.
Avila Energy says it has purchased a license for the manufacturing and marketing of the EnerTwin in the North American market. Beginning in 2026, Avila plans to sell 50,000 EnerTwin systems in North America as part of an integrated offering that also includes the provision of energy to their end customers.
To achieve this goal, the company has laid out the following timeline:
1) 2nd quarter of 2023 the preparation and filing of the application for the Canadian Standards Association (“CSA”) and Underwriter Laboratories (“UL”) Certifications for the EnerTwin in North America, based on past applications for CSA approval of KIWA certified equipment. The Company has estimated that this process is anticipated to 10-12 months in duration. 1st half of 2023 the commencement of pre-sales and servicing of the EnerTwin that are conditional on the Company attaining CSA and UL approval. In the event that the CSA and UL approval is not attained, the sales would be refunded to customers.
2) The development of the Company’s manufacturing of the EnerTwin, including the assembly or 3rd part manufactured subassemblies and the final testing prior to shipping to the customer. The ramp up of this manufacturing facility is to be completed in parallel to the CSA approval, with the first 100 installations being demonstration installations to be replace by CSA approved equipment within targeted markets in North America utilizing the EnerTwin as KIWA Certified equipment.
3) Initial contracts are anticipated to be executed 3 months after receiving CSA Certification.
The Company’s Vertically Integrated Energy Business is based on the following assumptions:
a) Power, Heat, Cooling and Daily Transportation in one invoice;
b) Reduce Consumers Carbon footprint by 40% and save the consumer money;
c) Mitigates concern for brownouts and protection from increasing transmission fees;
d) Fixed Contract plus only an annual inflation adjustment; and
e) Capacity to transition to Hydrogen in the future.
The Company’s long-term goal is to allocate a portion of its natural gas production to its newly acquired customers as a source of fuel with the cost of energy being billed to the customer at a fixed price plus an annual inflation rate adjustment. The Company’s strategy is to include the delivery of fuel and the maintenance, under long-term contracts that offers price stability. The Company plans to continue to still sell their current suite of customers in addition to the newly acquired customers from the Vertically Integrated Business.
The Company assumes early market development will qualify for government subsidies both in Canada and the United States as an efficient upgrade and or substitute for current heating and cooling. For example, the Company anticipates that the EnerTwin will qualify under the existing Canadian Greener Homes Program which will offer rebates on eligible home retrofits.
Conclusion: A Rare Opportunity
Special situation investments like Avila's proposed SPAC up listing do not come often. My offer was accepted on a house so we did a hard credit pull to get a pre approval letter. The inspection found major issues so we are trying to reach a deal with the seller right now. However, if it does not work out I will be back to square one looking for a home. It usually takes months for someone to get an offer accepted where I live (highly competitive market). Since they already pulled my credit, I know you can pull it multiple times in a 45 day window and it counts as one pull. However I am worried if I don't find a house in 45 days, my credit score will now be a lot lower and I may not be able to get a mortgage. One lender said my credit pull is good for 4 months if I stay with their company. But I'd want to shop around if I start this process over again. Also 4 months might not even be enough time. I am feeling very rushed now. What does someone do in this scenario?

They have 1/2 Oz of Abundant Flower for $70. My experience tells me that it's dry and somewhat tasteless when it comes to a dispo pushing a specific sale this big.

Hello! I've been on this sub for a few months now, I've been researching nonstop about what I should prepare for and buy before I have ratties; But I do have some questions that I'm struggling to find online. 1) What food/feed should I invest in? I think my ideal situation is I always leave food out for my ratties but will give them some fruit or veggies once or twice daily, maybe even a treat. I will be working a part-time job and have online school so I'd rather let them have food available (I've heard that's an okay decision!)
2) What ground covering/bedding should I buy? I am buying a critter nation cage and plan to use older towels for the base of their floor, but I know people use a lot of different things to layer their cage floor with. What would be safest for them!
3) Any links to safe carriers for at least 2 rats would be wonderful! The current rescue service I'm in contact with said that no mesh/wood/fabric carriers are safe for ratties, and most of the ones on Amazon I've seen look too small/are made with fabric.
And lastly, any general tips would be wonderful! I should mention I have a cat, but she's older and I have a room the rats can be safe in without her scaring them. If anything rodents scare her more and she can be really chill around critters as I've seen in the past. I do plan on registering them for ESA to take them with me when I move homes in a few months, and I'm super excited to take on this responsibility. Again, any help is appreciated!
