What do you do when you need to get somewhere quickly, but don't have a car? You ask your friend with a car to drive you. What do you do when you need help moving the new mattress you bought? You ask your friend with a pickup truck to help you out. How about when you need to use a table saw or some other power tool for a project? You call your friends. That Friend With A is a subreddit for users to post the services they can offer or need, in return for things you would do for a friend.

2023.05.31 02:21 agedvermouth [Diplomacy] Saudi - Iranian Diplomatic Relations; 2025
Saudi - Iranian Diplomatic Relations; 2025 [Private]
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian Diplomatic Discussions with Saudi Arabia; January 2025
De-escalation
With the recent Iranian and Saudi Arabian positions on peace in Yemen having produced an unthinkable amicable solution, Iran believes that both sides are learning to begin to co-exist peacefully. Iran is requesting the opening of a diplomatic hotline between the Ministries of Defense between these two nations to prevent diplomatic crises, and encourage communication to resolve disputes.
Additionally, Iran is requesting cooperation and coordination with Saudi Arabia on areas of mutual interest in foreign policy, like the development and reconstruction of Yemen, for example.
Access to Religious Sites
Although some Iranians are allowed to embark on Hajj to Saudi Arabia, unfortunately there are still many Muslims in Iran that are not allowed the opportunity to do so because of quotas on Shia visitors. Iran has proposed, as a simple of normalizing relations, that Saudi Arabia remove quotas on Iranian Hajj visitors to Mecca and Medina, while Iran will lift restrictions on visitors to the holy city of Qom. While two nations may disagree on the lineage of Mohammed, at least they can both agree that Muslims should not be prevented from following his path.
Padding Our Pockets
Given the recent uptick in gas and prices of other petroleum products, Iran has proposed an idea of mutual interest to all OPEC+ members. That is, Iran is proposing that the OPEC+ members keep prices high and maintain current production levels through the end of 2026 to correspond with their Mid-Term Elections, as the United States will feel the crunch continue under President Biden. As President Biden has done no favors for the OPEC+ nations, Iran proposes letting the US feel the pinch of their government's foreign policy in the Middle East at the gas pump. All OPEC+ members stand to continue their growth and goose a profit at the expense of the United States.

2023.05.31 02:14 svet_sedov China SVET Review and Analysis
The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the world’s emerging superpower. However, it is also a country facing a growing number of economical, social, and ecological issues.
China’s GDP exceeds $11 trillion dollars, making it the second largest in the world after the US. Despite this, its rate of economic growth has sharply dropped to 6% in 2016 from 9% in 2013. The PRC has a highly centralized and government-managed economy, along with strictly regulated political life. Notwithstanding, some Chinese provinces are allowed to pursue independent economic policies.
China officially has a multi-party political system. However, in practice, there is only one party that holds significant power — the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was founded on July 1, 1921. The CPC’s ideology is based on the Marxist-Leninist doctrine introduced by Karl Marx (a Prussian economist) and Friedrich Engels (a German philosopher and businessman) in the 1880s. This doctrine was later supplemented by the theory of Socialism by Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin (a Russian politician and revolutionary).
The doctrine postulates that society is composed of two major economic classes — the working people (exploited) and the bourgeoisie (exploiters). According to this theory, a global economic crisis will lead to a revolution, with the working class taking control of the world and the bourgeoisie being eliminated. Ultimately, capitalism will cease to exist, and communism (where goods are freely available and nobody works) will prevail. Mao Zedong, the founder of the CPC, adapted this theory to the Chinese context by including Chinese farmers in the definition of the working class.
The PRC government plays a central role in both the political and economic aspects of China. The CPC governs China through an administrative pyramid, with the Central Committee (Politburo) and the National Congress at the top.
The National Congress is comprised of over 2000 delegates who are elected mainly from local CPC committee members. This assembly convenes for a two-week session in Beijing once a year. The 22 Chinese provinces are managed by regional governors appointed by the Central Committee, and their primary objective is to fulfill the CPC’s goal of achieving GDP growth. The government operates based on five-year plans.
The list of other political parties in China includes:
Revolutionary Committee of the Kuomintang (53,000 members, representing Taiwan residents in China); China Democratic League (130,000 members, mainly composed of the middle class); China Democratic National Construction Association (69,000 members, consisting of entrepreneurs); China Association for Promoting Democracy (64,000 members, primarily intellectuals); Chinese Peasants’ and Workers’ Democratic Party (65,000 members, representing government employees); Zhigongdang of China (15,000 members, representing overseas Chinese); Jiusan Society (68,000 members, comprising individual professionals); Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (1,600 members, including prominent Chinese celebrities). All of these parties are aligned with and support the CPC in its major initiatives and policies. Opposition to the CPC is not tolerated.
Economic Review
Administratively China consists of 22 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities directly under the central government, and 2 special administrative regions.
China’s main economic regions:
Eastern Coastal Region: This region includes provinces like Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, as well as Shanghai. It has been a major driver of China’s economic growth due to its proximity to international trade routes and its well-developed infrastructure. The Eastern Coastal Region contributes approximately 45–50% to China’s GDP. Western Region: The Western Region comprises provinces such as Sichuan, Chongqing, and Yunnan, as well as the Tibet Autonomous Region. This region is known for its rich natural resources, including minerals, energy, and agricultural products. The Western Region contributes around 15–20% to China’s GDP. Central Region: The Central Region includes provinces such as Henan, Hubei, and Hunan. It is characterized by a mix of industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, and services. The Central Region contributes roughly 15–20% to China’s GDP. Northeastern Region: The Northeastern Region consists of provinces like Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. Historically, this region was a vital industrial base for heavy machinery, mining, and manufacturing. However, it has faced economic challenges in recent years. The Northeastern Region contributes approximately 7–10% to China’s GDP. Pearl River Delta: The Pearl River Delta is a highly urbanized and economically dynamic region located in Guangdong Province. It encompasses cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan. Known as a manufacturing and export hub, it has played a pivotal role in China’s economic growth. The Pearl River Delta contributes around 10–15% to China’s GDP. Yangtze River Delta: The Yangtze River Delta region covers Shanghai and the surrounding provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang. It is one of the most economically developed and prosperous regions in China. With a strong focus on finance, manufacturing, and services, the Yangtze River Delta contributes approximately 20–25% to China’s GDP. China’s Latest Economic Updates
Stock Market
The Shanghai Composite rose from 2892 in November 2022 to 3284 (as of May 17, 2023).
Currency
Yuan rose from 6.7 in Jan 2023 to 7.0 as of May 17, 2023
Employment
In March 2023, China’s surveyed urban unemployment rate decreased to 5.3%, the lowest in seven months, from February’s 5.6%. Those aged 25–59 saw their jobless rate drop to 4.3% from 4.8% in February, while those aged 16–24 increased to 19.6% from 18.1%. The unemployment rate in 31 large cities and towns also declined to 5.5% from 5.7%.
Employees’ average weekly working hours across China increased to 48.7 in March from 47.9 in February. In the first quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate slightly declined to 5.5% from 5.6% in Q4 2022. The government has set a target of around 5.5% for the year, with the creation of approximately 12 million new urban jobs. China has also set a 2023 GDP growth target of about 5%.
GDP
China’s economy grew by 2.2% (SA) in Q1–2023, the third consecutive quarter of expansion following the removal of travel restrictions in Dec-2022 and a three-year crackdown on tech firms and property. However, the uneven recovery showed that while consumption, services, and infrastructure spending picked up, slowing inflation and rising bank savings led to doubts about demand.
In Mar-2023, the central bank cut lenders’ reserve requirements for the first time in 2023 and Beijing promised more fiscal stimulus.
Inflation
In April of 2023, China’s inflation rate declined to 0.1% from the previous month’s 0.7%, which was lower than anticipated. The decrease in prices for both food and non-food items was due to an unstable economic recovery after the enclosure policy was lifted. Food prices fell notably due to lower prices of pork and fresh vegetables, while non-food prices fell due to lower prices for transportation and housing. Inflation for health remained steady, while education costs increased.
Trade
Country’s exports rose unexpectedly by 14.8% YoY to a high of USD 315.59B in March 2023, rebounding sharply from a 6.8% drop in January-February combined and beating market consensus of a 7% fall. It was the first advance in shipments since September 2022 as Beijing boosts trade with developed countries and emerging economies. Steel products (53.2%) and refined products (35.1%) were the largest contributors. Exports to China’s largest partner, ASEAN, rose 35.43%, while those to the EU (3.38%) and Russia (136.43%) also increased. Conversely, exports fell to Japan (-4.8%), Taiwan (-27.6%), and the US (-7.68%), while they expanded to Australia (23.7%) and South Korea (11.3%).
SVET Analysis Space (A-):
Advantages:
Strategic location: China is located in the heart of Asia, which gives it a strategic location to engage in trade and diplomacy with neighboring countries. China also has access to the Pacific Ocean, which allows it to trade with countries in the Americas and Oceania. Natural resources: China has significant reserves of coal, iron ore, and other minerals. The country is also the world’s largest producer of rare earth elements, which are essential in the manufacturing of high-tech products. This resource base has fueled China’s economic growth over the past few decades. Agricultural productivity: China has a large and fertile agricultural base, which allows it to produce significant amounts of food. The country is the world’s largest producer of rice and wheat, and it has made significant advances in crop yields through the use of technology and modern farming practices. Disadvantages:
Natural disasters: China is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and typhoons, which can cause significant damage to infrastructure and disrupt the economy. Resource depletion: China’s rapid economic growth has led to the depletion of some of its natural resources, such as water and arable land. This depletion can lead to environmental degradation and food insecurity in the future. Energy dependence: Despite having significant reserves of coal, China is also heavily dependent on imported oil and gas to meet its energy needs. This dependence makes the country vulnerable to supply disruptions and price fluctuations on the global market. Voice (C):
Pluses:
Stability: The Chinese government prioritizes maintaining stability and order in the country, which has helped to ensure social cohesion and economic growth. Economic development: China’s political system has enabled it to pursue policies that have led to rapid economic growth and development over the past few decades. Nationalism: The Chinese government emphasizes the importance of national unity and pride, which has helped to foster a strong sense of identity among Chinese citizens. Strategic planning: The government’s focus on long-term planning has enabled China to achieve its ambitious economic and geopolitical goals. Minuses:
Lack of political freedom: The Chinese government tightly controls political expression and restricts freedom of speech, assembly, and association, which has led to criticism from human rights groups. State control: The government’s control over the economy and key industries can stifle innovation and limit the potential for private sector growth. Lack of transparency: The Chinese government is known for being opaque in its decision-making processes, which can lead to uncertainty for businesses and investors. Human rights violations: The government’s policies towards ethnic minorities, such as the Uighur population in Xinjiang, have been criticized by the international community for alleged human rights abuses. Ethos (B-):
Han Chinese: The Han Chinese are the largest ethnic group in China, accounting for over 90% of the population. They enjoy the most favorable treatment from the government and have access to the best jobs, education, and healthcare. However, this has led to some resentment from minority groups who feel marginalized. Ethnic minorities: There are 55 recognized ethnic minority groups in China, including Tibetans, Uighurs, Mongolians, and others. They often face discrimination and limited opportunities for advancement. Some minority groups, such as the Uighurs in Xinjiang, have also been subject to government repression. Rural residents: China’s rural population is around 40% of the total population. They often have limited access to education, healthcare, and job opportunities compared to urban residents. However, the government has implemented policies to try to bridge this gap, such as investing in rural infrastructure and offering subsidies to farmers. Urban residents: China’s urban population is growing rapidly and has access to more job opportunities, education, and healthcare than rural residents. However, this has also led to increased competition for resources and rising income inequality. Time (B-):
Positive scenarios:
Continued economic growth: China’s economy has been growing rapidly over the past few decades, and it is likely to continue. This could result in increased prosperity and an improved standard of living for many Chinese citizens. Technological advancement: China has made significant strides in technology and innovation, and this trend is likely to continue. This could result in China becoming a global leader in technology, creating new industries and high-paying jobs. Improved infrastructure: China has been investing heavily in infrastructure, such as high-speed rail and new airports, which can improve transportation and connectivity and stimulate economic growth. Increased global influence: As China’s economy and political influence continue to grow, it could become a dominant player on the global stage, shaping international politics and economics. Negative scenarios:
Environmental degradation: China’s rapid economic growth has resulted in severe environmental problems, such as air and water pollution. If this trend continues, it could have severe consequences for public health and the environment. Social inequality: China’s economic growth has also created significant social inequalities, with a wealthy urban elite and a poorer rural population. This could result in social unrest and instability. Political repression: The Chinese government’s increasing control over the media and the internet, and its crackdowns on dissent, could result in greater political repression. Economic slowdown: China’s economic growth has already slowed in recent years, and if this trend continues, it could result in job losses and economic instability, which could have global consequences. Overall
The Chinese reforms were initiated by Deng Xiaoping (1978–1992) in the late 1970s. These reforms aimed to open up China to foreign investment, encourage private enterprise, and modernize various sectors of the economy. As part of these reforms, the number of directly controlled industries was drastically reduced. Additionally, the number of price-controlled goods decreased from approximately 300 to around 20.
With that said, the government still exercises strict regulatory oversight and establishes guidelines and policies that private businesses must adhere to. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) continue to play a significant role in the Chinese economy and frequently receive preferential treatment and support from the government.
Those policies were continued under Jiang Zemin (1993–2003), during which China was accepted into the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 11, 2001, and also under Hu Jintao (2003–2013). However, when Xi Jinping (2013-present) assumed power, there was a gradual shift towards increased direct control over the economy and the establishment of a more centralized system. This change was accompanied by the active implementation of mass-surveillance technologies.
That happened synchronously with the end of the world’s latest 80-year-long generational cycle, which began in the 1940s and 1950s. This cycle was characterized by massive political decentralization, resulting in the emergence of several dozen new states between 1940 and 2000. After the 2007–2008 debts debacle, this cycle of economic expansion, driven by the exploitation of readily available resources, came to a close. However, it was artificially extended for the next 15 years through the easing of monetary policies pursued simultaneously by central banks worldwide.
That led to an unprecedented growth of private businesses worldwide. It was accompanied by increased prosperity and a rising level of education across all segments of the population. Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, particularly in the high-tech industry, began to assume leading positions in the economic landscape. However, this economic progress was not accompanied by significant political reforms.
The old class of hereditary, mostly populist politicians, who often lacked education, managed to stay in power throughout that period, largely due to the outdated electoral system based on indirect political representation. However, when blockchain technologies were utilized to establish algorithmic consensus and enable effective direct governance, this new system faced resistance from entrenched political clans in all countries, resulting in its suppression.
China is currently at the forefront of this trend, with its political class focused on leveraging high-tech advancements to achieve both economic efficiency and comprehensive political control. However, there are two significant obstacles that China faces along this path.
Firstly, China is confronted with a shrinking population. In recent years, the country has undergone a substantial demographic shift characterized by an aging population and a decline in the working-age population. This is partially attributed to the one-child policy that was enforced from 1979 to 2016, resulting in a diminished labor force and a growing proportion of elderly individuals.
Secondly, there is a culmination of the resource-exploration and expansionist phase of global economic growth, accompanied by escalating political and military tensions worldwide. This situation is likely to result in a reduction of China’s import markets and an increased dependence on a less-competitive domestic market. Consequently, this could potentially lead to a scenario of stagflation, characterized by stagnant economic growth coupled with high inflationary pressures.
Faced with these fundamental challenges, it is highly probable that China will resort to aggressive and militaristic policies in an attempt to expand its territory directly or enforce its economic dominance in the Asian region through alternative means.
China is expected to continue on its trajectory towards increased global dominance through local conflicts and enhanced technological control over the economy and population over the next 15–20 years. However, this trend could be altered by a new wave of decentralization, which would require a significant deviation from current policies.
Such a shift may occur when not only the current generation of older politicians, but also the subsequent one (which is likely to further reinforce the existing trend), is replaced by “enlightened” technocrats who advocate for a return to decentralized approaches in both politics and economics.

2023.05.31 02:03 thatskymirian Sky’s most colorful event of the year will soon be upon us, supporting The Trevor Project. Days of Color begins at 00:00 on June 1st through 23:59 on June 14th!
| Shared by TGC on all major communication channels. Check out their tweet here: Thank you for your patience! Sky’s most colorful event of the year will soon be upon us, and we're excited to support an amazing cause once again. Learn more about Days of Color, an updated take on a fan favorite 🎨 https://bit.ly/DaysOfColor Transcript: ————— Build Something Beautiful Together During Days of Color https://preview.redd.it/zt39wep4n33b1.jpg?width=1778&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dad845ba082f03b67a8f5dd0ec9bd995bd7b3a92 Arcs of rainbows will soon be gracing the skies over the realms. Days of Color will soon be here, and with it, Sky’s annual celebration of the diversity that makes our shared world so vibrant. An Updated Name for a Continuing Celebration Each year in Sky, diversity, hope, and inclusion have been at the center of the event players have known as Days of Rainbow. We were excited to add big updates to it this year, especially because we know the event means a lot to so many players around the world. Because of that, we also wanted to touch on the name change from Days of Rainbow to Days of Color. Expanding the event meant digging into the core themes that players have experienced since Days of Rainbow debuted in 2020. While the themes and messages haven’t changed, the new activities this year better capture what can be achieved only when all of our different colors can shine together. The updated name highlights this, and as Days of Color, the event will continue to focus on diversity, hope, and making the world inside and outside of Sky more inclusive for everyone. Revelry in the Clouds The most colorful time of Sky’s year begins at 00:00 on June 1st, and runs until 23:59 on June 14th. Two event guide Spirits arrive in Home for the occasion who can teleport you to where the main festivities will be held: the secretive area high above Daylight Prairie, expanded specially for the occasion. Within this vivid and colorfully decorated space, players can use their capes to charge eight platforms, which become available one by one each day of the event—a nearby closet and magical spell-lending geyser can help if you need to make a quick cape change. From the eighth day onward, all of the platforms can be charged with the aid of other players, and once they are, get ready for a brilliant display that shares Light and lifts all players to scenic and glittering heights. https://preview.redd.it/e12cta86n33b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1dc35d2e16c592ee8f73a64bc8e3b892533ca1bb Even if you stay near the platforms (or choose to visit Sky’s rare pupper), the area is perfect to decorate with color trail spells as you fly around! The spacious scenery also allows dozens, even hundreds of players to gather together using the festival tech featured in Season of Passage quests and the Season of AURORA concert. All the colorful avatars of fellow Sky children from across the world may just create a living rainbow of their own. Outside of the event space, a double rainbow in Home provides colorful Light and a laid-back way to gather with friends. And of course, some themed daily quests point the way to places in the realms where you can appreciate the beauty of a rainbow (or, perhaps, the discovery that comes at the end of one). Days of Color Currency We mentioned earlier this year that we’re planning to make some changes to Sky’s economy this year, and as we announced in a recent blog post, event-specific currencies are one example of that plan in action. Days of Color will be the first event to feature event currency, which will hopefully make it easier than ever for players of all experience levels to unlock the newest Days of Color memento being introduced this year. As you explore the event area and complete themed Daily Quests, keep an eye out for small iridescent, bubble-like spheres. Players can collect 8 every day during the event—and on days with themed Daily Quests, up to 12 each day! Explore a bit more on the weekends and you might find an extra bubble or two… Note: The total number of event currency intended to be available during the event is affected by a bug. To offset that bug, we’ll add 8 event currency to the inventory of all players who log in during Days of Color. The only thing you need to do to receive this is to log into the game. https://preview.redd.it/xbo43xp7n33b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=756c0d4c6b7d56af5a8a8107c4b8f5c181b782d8 Colors That Make a Difference This year we’re proud to share that we’ll once again be supporting The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and mental health organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. The Trevor Project’s programs include crisis services, education, peer support for people around the world, and other efforts to ensure young people can have the chance to thrive no matter who they are. You can read about our 2022 campaign with the Trevor Project here. We are making a donation to The Trevor Project during Pride month in association with the Days of Color campaign, and will reveal the total amount after Days of Color has concluded. We invite you to join us in supporting The Trevor Project this month! https://preview.redd.it/zw536yk9n33b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=162a6447be0dc696ce8bdd0a319e8c2b724ba21c 2023 Days of Color Campaign Items - Dark Rainbow Pack $9.99 (all prices USD)

[NEWS] Repower anchor IPO buyer in listed Japanese company… Repower Energy Development [REDC pre-IPO] [link] notified the exchange yesterday that it would extend its “book-building period”, but Merkado Barkada has learned from a source with first-hand knowledge that this is because REDC found a listed Japanese company that confirmed it will buy the majority of the REDC IPO as an anchor buyer. REDC did not say whether the extended book-building period would impact the tentative schedule of the IPO.
- MB: This is a fresh development that has many potential benefits to REDC both for this transaction, and going forward post-IPO. Typically an anchor investor can help build confidence in an IPO because it helps validate of the business model and support the valuation. That information could be useful to potential buyers, as the thought of a huge chunk of shares being off-the-market does increase the scarcity of the remaining float. I’m curious to learn the identity of the buyer, to learn more about the relationship between the parties, and to see if there are any strategic benefits to REDC beyond this deal. Of course, I’m also curious to learn the price, but there’s plenty of time for that.
- [NOTES] Quick takes from around the market...
- PSE [PSE 164.00 unch] [link] notified the market that it received an assessment from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) that it owed ₱189.2 million in alleged tax deficiencies, penalties, and interest, coming from calendar year 2017. The PSE said that it would dispute the BIR findings. Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno said that the BIR was “just doing their job.”
- MB Quick Take: Getting the BIR’s attention is never a good thing, but it’s important to put the potential size of this assessment in context with the PSE’s financial standing and performance. According to its Q1 earnings report, the ₱189.2 million is about 93% of its quarterly profit, but the PSE has over ₱2 billion in cash and cash equivalents on the balance sheet that it could use to take the hit. It’s a weird situation that should cause some behind-the-scenes process adjustments, but this isn’t an existential threat by any means.
- Boulevard Holdings [BHI 0.07 ▲33.3%; 1304% avgVol] [link] had its 110-day suspension lifted after it finally submitted its annual report for the fiscal year ending May 31, 2022, and the following three quarterly reports. BHI surged 33% on massive volume after the suspension was lifted.
- MB Quick Take: Play if you want to play, but be warned that BHI is very casual with its reporting and is often suspended for failing to do the bare minimum with respect to its reporting obligations. BHI also seems to be alarmingly comfortable in a state of suspension, which is a massive red flag to me.
- Alliance Global [AGI 13.34 ▲0.5%; 573% avgVol] [link] is losing the Hong Kong-based Genting as its foreign partner in the local gaming industry. AGI revealed that it is buying Genting’s entire stake in Newport Wold Resorts project.
- MB Quick Take: As I’ve said before, I’m not comfortable in my analysis of the gaming sector, so I’m not really sure what to make of this news. To an outsider like me, it just sounds like a pretty big deal to lose such a powerful 40% stakeholder in one transaction, but I’m not really sure what this means for Andrew Tan, AGI, and the Newport project. Any guest analysts interested in providing some context, please send me a note!
- MJC Investments [MJIC suspended] [link] disclosed that its board authorized the conversion into equity of ₱2.4 billion in “deposits for future subscription” made by HK Strategic Investors and Manila Jockey Club [MJC suspended]. The unusual deposits were made way back in 2021.
- MB Quick Take: As an investor, I hate seeing these massive pending transactions on the books that fester for years. The depositors will get 2.2 billion shares out of the conversion, which is a 69% increase in the outstanding shares of MJIC. That’s a substantial change.

2023.05.31 01:56 AcidSilver Respect Death (Have A Nice Death)
"Get back to work."
Created from the deepest void, the entity known as "Death" has existed since the dawn of time alongside his equals, Time and Life. His work in the universe started out as a small family business, reaping the souls of the living by his own bony hand over billions of years. But over time Death had grown weary and his scythe elbow had only gotten worse; that's when he had the brilliant idea to create the Sorrows, beings of death who would do the work for him, while he took his spot as CEO of Death Incorporated. Unfortunately, the Sorrows have begun to grow out of control and are more focused on reaping as many souls as possible, causing Death to literally become buried in paperwork. So it's time for Death to take up his loyal cloak, his magical Pitbook, and his trusty scythe once more so he can remind the Sorrows who's in charge and take down the mysterious being who seeks to use his Sorrows to depose him as CEO of Death Incorporated.

Weapons
Death may have started his career with nothing more than his basic scythe and a handful of magic spells. but over the years he's expanded his repertoire of deadly weapons. What's more, Death has a variety of different scythes (and some non scythes) to choose as his main weapon due to its transformation feature. Though Death has countless weapons at his disposal, we only see 71 in the game. Every weapon also has its own Frenzy attack which is a super powerful move that is charged up as Death deals damage.
His trusty blade that can cut through space, time, and the elements. Death can summon his blade by holding out his hand as it flies towards him or he can simply have it teleport to him. Death can also stand in place to charge up his energy for a powerful charge attack
- The Diss Scythe: A variation of the basic scythe that allows Death to attack from further away.
- Twinsie: A variation of the basic scythe that prioritizes power over speed due to its second blade.
- Sickles: A pair of sickles that allow Death to attack at higher speeds in exchange for less range.
- Billhooks: A pair of blades that Death can throw at enemies before they return to his hands just like a boomerang
- Parasol 1.0: An enchanted parasol that can not only stab through foes with brutal efficiency but can also act as a shield/deflector.
- Seletine: Has slower attack speed but by slamming the mace end into the ground, Death can boost the power of his next attack.
A sentient flying cloak that prefers to stay wrapped around Death's shoulders, the cloak not only lets Death turn invisible but can also transform into a variety of deadly weapons. It even protects him from the elements.
- Behammorth: A powerful hammer that's bigger than Death himself that hits hard in exchange for its slow attack speed.
- Brutumhammer: An upgrade of the Behammorth that lets Death slam it into the ground, launching stones all around him.
- Shake Spear: A long range spear that Death uses to attack foes with a three-pronged combo.
- Jabelin: A spear that Death uses to launch himself forward towards enemies, impaling anyone in his way.
- Sisword: A blade that Death uses to quickly jump in the air before diving at foes at lightning speeds.
- Drageanor: The sister to the Sisword, this blade allows Death to launch sharp projectiles with each swing.
- Slaymore: A giant sword that Death swings as he jumps in the air before slamming it down on the ground.
- Slaygore: Similar in size to the Slaymore, the Slaygore allows Death to slam the blade into the ground and send out an electrical shockwave. Can also be used to launch projectiles when swung mid air.
- Whirl Daggers: A pair of poisoned blades that Death uses to stab anyone nearby.
- Daggust: Death uses powerful gusts of wind to move back and forth in a flurry of sharp blades.

- Ferral Fists: A pair of powerful arms that crush whoever is between its giant hands.
- Raparrier: A rapier that Death uses to brutally stab anyone in front of him. Should anyone wield this object then they will be consumed by an unstoppable rage until they stab someone with this blade. Death is immune to this effect.
- Dirty Dagger: A small dagger that, if stabbed in the back, injects you with a metallic substance that attacks your vital organs.
- Rocket Launcher: A rocket launcher that holds a malicious soul within, amplifying its power.
- Revelation Bow: A deadly bow and arrow shot with extreme efficiency. Death can summon an unlimited amount of arrows.
- Fire Bow: Similar to the Revelation Bow but with a slight homing effect on its arrows. Death can summon an unlimited amount of arrows.
- Death Star: A vicious looking morning star that Death had made after almost getting into a fight with a strange, cloaked, old man who kept bragging about his new "secret" space base while at a seminar.
- Murray of Crows: Death summons a murder of crows to surround him, damaging anything nearby.
- Vampire Battery: Death electrocutes himself and anyone nearby while also shooting out electrified bats at random. Death is not harmed by this.
- Beasteel: Death summons spider-like limbs from his back before jumping onto nearby enemies. Can also shoot out projectiles when used mid air.
- Excavor: Giant steel blades surge out of the ground around Death, impaling anyone nearby.
A fireproof, floating, magical book that is filled with all kinds of magical spells that Death has learned over the years. It follows Death around like a loyal dog and if opened by anyone else other than Death, the only text visible will read: "WOOF! WOOFWOOOF! GRRR!"
Each of Death's spells consume a portion of his max mana reserves that automatically fills back up unless fully drained in which case it refills after a few seconds. While he starts the game with a low amount of mana that can be increased with items, this appears to be a gameplay mechanic as he is described as being able to increase his mana reserves at will and far beyond what the game will allow with the Focus spell.
- Fire Arrow: A simple fireball spell.
- Dark Talons: Summons a clawed hand from a creature named Charlie that grabs foes and pulls them closer to Death.
- Explosion: Causes an explosion.
- Poisoned Gift: Death throws two balls of venom made up of all the venoms of every snake found on the surface, poisons excreted from all the most lethal spiders who have ever existed, and a hint of wild mint for flavor.
- Boomerang Hex: Death shoots curved pure mana that then comes back around like a boomerang. Can launch more than one at a time.
- Myriad of Stars: Death summons a handful of miniature stars that then fly forward.
- Shockwave: Death releases an energy wave all around him.
- Spitfire: Pitbook shoots out a trail of fire on the ground.
- Poison Mist: A poison cloud of gas so powerful that it can poison a being made of pure toxic sludge. Can summon more than one cloud at a time.
- Boulderain: Summons boulders out of thin air and rain down on enemies.
- Mordicine: Death ingests a pill that hurts him in exchange for increased damage.
- Sacrifix: Death deals slight damage to himself over a period of a few seconds in exchange for two cups of Koffee (healing items)
- Vladislaw: Heals Death but reduces his maximum health with each use.
- Aleistar: A magical time bomb.
- Dark Claws: Summons Charlie's claws to rip and tear at foes.

- Makeshift Rockets: Death shoots a magical firework that explodes on impact.
- Piercing Ray: Death shoots out beams of light that home in on foes.
- Spiteful Chomper: Summons one of Charlie's mouths that crawl forward, chomping on anything in their path. Can summon more than one at a time.
- Starry Halo: Summons two stars that temporarily spin around Death, damaging anything that comes near. Can summon more than one pair at a time.
- Firescreamer: Pitbook shoots out a stream of fire in front of Death.
- Soul Razor: Opens a vortex that damages enemies within while enhancing Death's damage.
- Focus: Temporarily increases Death's mana regeneration speed while also temporarily increasing his max health and mana reserves.
- Voracious Burst: A spell that lowers Death's maximum health in return for summoning a spectral mouth in front of Death that heals Death equal to the 15% damage dealt.
- Ganglion X-4: Summons spiked balls that can bounce around for a few seconds before disappearing. Can summon more than one at a time.
- Frostbreeze: Shoots out a freezing gust of wind that also inflicts Frozen which slows down foes
- EyeSeeYou: Summons one of Charlie's eyeballs that acts as a turret, shooting projectiles at an enemy before disappearing after a few seconds. Can summon more than one at a time.

- Sepulchral Ray: Fires a beam of damaging purple energy that inflicts the Arcane effect which deals additional damage after five layers of arcane are applied to a foe.
- Troublecross: Shoots two rays of energy that move in a crisscross formation.
- Wizzalch Barrage: Brings down several lightning bolts on the foe's head.
- Tornadmin: Launches a Mach 2 cyclone at foes that is full of sharp edged papers.
- Lyberis Skulls: Summons exploding skulls around Death, damaging foes.
- Nihilaser: The strongest laser in Death's arsenal, it can destroy all forms of existence in the universe when used correctly.
- Anvilaunch: Death uses telekinesis to rip out one ton's worth of metal from the ground and throws it at foes while it's in the shape of an anvil.
- Void Rift: Tears a hole in the fabric of reality above a foe's head as several of Charlie's fists come flying through, smashing anything beneath them.
Miscellaneous Powers
Death can also gain various curses which (despite the name) amplify his stats, scythe, cloak, magic, or give him new abilities outright. As there are 243 curses available, I will only be including those that aren't reliant on gameplay mechanics and can be translated into lore (such as a curse that doubles defense) and will only include the best version of a curse (meaning that if there is a curse that triples Death's damage then I will not post a curse that only doubles his damage).
- And My Axe!: Every time Death uses a Cloak based weapon, an axe is launched from his cloak.
- Knave of Swords: Summons a small flying scythe that moves around Death.
- Praised Be The Bombcloak!: Every time Death uses a Cloak based weapon, a bomb is launched from his cloak.
- MC Scythe: Death can ignore pain while attacking.
- Astral Claws: Every few seconds, the foe (or a random foe if there is more than one) will be attacked by invisible claws.
- Soul Sucker: After taking damage, a percentage of any damage that Death deals in the next two seconds is gained as health.
- Tyrannical Boss: After taking damage, the next attack that Death lands deals 200% more damage
- Social Toxicity: All of Death's attacks inflict poison on foes.
- Burning Up: Death's attacks burns foes.
- Perish The Thought...: Death's attacks inflict Frozen on foes, slowing them down.
- Millanima Eye: Death gains two extra Anima slots.
- Burn-Out Channeling: Being damaged increases the Frenzy gauge.
- A Spoonful Of Suger: Every attack has a 10% chance of freezing an enemy in time. Both this curse and Tempus Abjuratum are strong enough to work on Time himself.
- Anima Lambic: Consuming an Anima grants Death temporary regeneration.
- Eye For An Eye: Being damaged grants Death temporary regeneration.
- Tooth For A Tooth: Being damaged grants Death a 30% chance of gaining an Anima.
- Straw Helm: Doubles Death's defense.
- Animoolah: Golden Animas fully heal Death.
- Corvus Nefas: Being damaged launches crows towards the nearest foe.
- Flash Of Brilliance: Every attack causes the target to be struck by lightning.
- Conflagrations: Using a spell causes explosions to appear around Death.
- Iranima: Using an Anima fills up Death's Frenzy bar by 50%.
- Crow Cover: Using a spell launches crows towards the nearest foe.
- Imminent Burnout: The Cloak periodically launches crows towards the nearest foe.
- Social Security: Death is invincible for one second after taking damage.
- Imminent Reverie: Death periodically creates another Anima.
- Zeus's Wrath: Being damaged causes the foe to be struck by lightning.
- Static Electricity: Using a Cloak based weapon causes the nearest foe to be struck by lightning.
- Stroke of Luck: Death will survive a fatal attack as long as he's not one hit away from death. This effect will continue as long as this is the case.
Now that as an employee you know everything there is to know about the CEO himself it is high time that you got to work filtering souls for the great beyond. So swallow your feelings and put on a smile because the first day of the end of your life begins...now.

2023.05.31 01:54 TheBigBadGRIM Some Help in Choosing the Right Drill/Driver & Impact Driver Combo
Hello everyone, I'm new to the subreddit.
After constantly borrowing a cheap corded Ryobi drill/driver from my neighbor, I decided now was the time to get my own. Within a week, I learned about impact drivers and other items I was not familiar with. I made my power drill/driver purchase (never even touched a cordless before) and plan on picking it up on Thursday at Home Depot (just waiting for the bits to arrive). I went with a drill/driver & impact driver combo kit.
However, I'm still looking at comparisons and reviews and I'm not completely convinced I made the best purchase. First, the uses:
- I have NO INTENTION of working with concrete or any masonry.
- I wanted a drill/driver and impact combo mainly for little house repairs, installations on metal studs, and maybe get comfortable enough for some creative projects down the line. Basically, home DIY stuff but with a little overkill on performance and durability for some futureproofing.
- I have an immediate need for an impact driver that can unscrew super hard torx or hex screws on a chair without damaging the screws. Apparently I need good bits too, not the $3 stuff I have.
- I went overboard on the bits and ordered the Makita Impact XPS set. I don't need drills right now so I'll wait for a good price on those.
Anyway, what I ordered was this
Makita 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 2-Piece Combo Kit for $189. I read that Brushed tools are becoming obsolete and brushless is the way to go, but I also read that Makita brushed tools are great. Now, the next Makita upgrade is the black subcompact combo at $50 more. That sounds wholely unnecessary for my use. So I'm checking another brand. In specs alone, Milwaukee always seems like the better option over Makita, yet Makita holds a high reputation. Here are the two Milwaukee combos I'm comparing it to. These two are immediately available in store unlike the other brands of this tier:
If either of the options is better, I might show up and request an exchange on Thursday. Please let me know what the best option is. I appreciate those who took the time to read this.

2023.05.31 01:49 SapperNeilsen What is the most you would pay for a gas mask?
Just like the title says. I saw a thread here regarding a tiered list for gas masks. Assuming you could get whatever you want at a price that you thought was fair. How much would you pay and what would you buy?
As a second question, is $400-500 a reasonable price from a reputable company and a new mask?

2023.05.31 01:47 DemiserofD Civ Concept: The Pueblo
The Pueblo, once known as the Anasazi(which actually meant 'ancient enemy' in Navajo), were a civilization of farmers and city-builders, most well known for their sprawling cliff dwellings.
During their time they controlled vast stretches of the American southwest, building huge complexes of stone and sprawling road systems that facilitated trade as far south as modern Panama. While much of their history has been lost, following their emigration from the area due to ecological changes in the area, many traces of their unique and distinctive style can still be found, hidden away in the vast and barren deserts of Arizona.
Notably, they almost completely destroyed their own religious structure following a climate shift, which led them to believe their priests had used their power for evil.
The Pueblo
Archer and Anti-Monk Civilization
Mesoamerican
Civ Bonuses
Stone Lasts +25% Longer. - (the Pueblo would ship huge sandstone blocks from great distances to produce their massive cities and dwellings. Some buildings had over 700 rooms.)
+10% Population Capacity. - Instead of starting with 5 population capacity, they start with 5.5, which is rounded up to 6. At 100, they instead have 110. And at 200, they have 220.
Heresy is Free. - (In the ~1300s, they Pueblo people experienced a massive religious shift following the change in the local ecosystems. They believed it was a result of their spiritual elders abusing their power, and so burned almost the entirety of their existing religious structure in massive fires.)
Wheelbarrow and Handcart give double their normal effects.
Unique Units
Cliff Palace: Replacement for Castles. Constructed into a huge, rocky overhang, they can only fire in the direction they are facing. They have lower HP, but also can only be damaged from the same direction it fires. It can be rotated in the same way as Gates, and the front 4 tiles are walkable, like under town centers. This is a powerful tool for blocking attack from certain sides completely, in exchange for lower offensive value.
Desert Farm: These farms produce food faster than normal, but cannot be placed within 3 tiles of another desert farm, requiring very loose farm placement, with the accompanying downsides such as longer walk distances. (The Pueblo were very adept at living at high altitudes and far from sources of water, using skillfully-made irrigation systems to sustain small independent farms far from water sources)
Sandâaru: Very Weak, very cheap, fast-firing archer.
Cost: 10 Wood, 20 gold
Health: 15(20)
Attack: 2(4)
Range: 4(5)
Attack Speed: 1.2
Armor: 0/0
Movement Speed: 1
Takes 0.5 population space.
Think archer zerg.
Unique Technologies
Castle: Geoglyphs: Converting a Pueblo unit causes the converting monk to die.
Imperial: Chaco Roads: Trade Units also produce wood. - (Due to their distance from significant sources of quality lumber, the Pueblo would trade great distances to acquire wood to produce their houses and various goods. As a part of this, they created a massive road system spanning much of their area of the country.)
There are still great opportunities unexplored in the North American continent! The Pueblo existed from around 100AD all the way to around 1700AD, and had large cities with thousands of occupants, massive road systems, studied astronomy, traded all the way to Central America, and had a rich culture. Sadly, much of their history was lost following the spread of western diseases, but AoE2 could be a great way to remember their culture!

Chapter 89: Clash Of Snow I blinked, all my worst nightmares resurfacing as the Snow Dancer's silver sword swept towards my neck.
In that moment, I saw a premonition of what was to come if I failed in my duty to rescue my kingdom and secure plentiful supply of inexpensive soap to the peasantry.
A glint of steel, no different than the cruel edge of a guillotine, its swift onslaught the herald to our fair realm falling into ruin and rubble as a newly raised republic.
I shuddered as images of fire, smoke and anarchy zipped through my mind, our libraries overrun with illiterate looters and bandits while farmers burgled our royal kitchens for the produce we'd bought from them at a price so extortionately low that they could never hope to leave poverty.
But that's all they were. A terrible premonition.
It wasn't yet time for my life to flash before my eyes. And so I answered the coming sword with the only answer that befitted a princess of this dignified kingdom.
I scowled.
How
dare this woman attempt to behead me!
Even in my worst nightmares, whole crowds of angry peasants filled the streets! A deluge of rotten fruit tossed and thrown at me as they decried the life of luxury I deservedly lived at their expense! I had an audience! A death befitting my high status!
Even in my last moments, I could look down upon the unwashed masses from the raised platform built for my execution!
But here?
This was a frozen chamber, with the crowds consisting of frozen guards barely tall enough to keep their heads above the snow!
The insult was palpable!
And so–my expression creased beneath the weight of the indignity I felt.
Faced with a scowl hardened by 3 hours of daily practice over 4117 consecutive days, it's little wonder that the sword approaching me instantly slowed.
Indeed, the Snow Dancer positively quailed at the sight … even if she was still smiling in highly off-putting joy!
Brows dented, I twisted around to face the silver sword, taking advantage of the lapse in concentration as I swept Starlight Grace up.
Then, with all the elegance of a troll merchant clubbing away an unsatisfied customer, I batted the silver sword with the utter disdain it deserved.
Immediately, the Snow Dancer pirouetted, her speed as she brought her sword around at odds with the weak commitment of her strike.
Clearly fazed from my utter contempt at this terrible choice of location, the blade that approached my side was as easily slapped away as the falling leaves in my orchard.
And then … she
blinked away.
Gaining several steps of distance, the elven woman stood still and tilted her head, looking down at her own sword with an expression of puzzlement.
After which–her blue eyes took in my scowl.
“Wow,” she said. “Now that was something.”
I held Starlight Grace aloft, adopting whatever pose I knew looked most fashionable against the billowing snow at my back.
Ohoho … this sword saint!
She'd underestimated my ability to instantly cower opponents with facial expressions alone! And no wonder. Who else could crease their brows faster than physics could allow? When a servant spilled wine on my dress, I could adopt an expression of outrage faster than the liquid could stain me!
“An opportunistic attack, Snow Dancer. But I advise you not to underestimate me. The strike of your blade is less swift than the fumbling of my attendants.”
Ophelia blew a puff of silver hair away.
“Ouch, that hurts, comparing my [Butterfly Horizon] to whatever it is maids try on you. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised you parried that. Being high up the fancy ladder must mean having a sixth sense to attacks from behind, huh?”
“Quite so. It matters not from which direction they come. When they seek to stain my dress red, I will know before the deed is done.”
The Snow Dancer twirled her sword, drawing the falling snow towards it.
“So sneak attacks won't work? And to think I still can't catch a whiff of anything scary about you. Now that's a strong presence concealment. How long have you trained with a sword to get like that, Miss E-rank Adventurer?”
I smiled in response.
All the while, I came to a sudden realisation.
I, Juliette Contzen, time trained with a sword, zero hours, was currently duelling with a sword saint.
“O … ohohohoho! I've … I've been trained in a secret fencing style before I could even use a fork! As … As you can see, my ability to stand undaunted is testament to my unmatched skills in swordsmanship, born of natural talent and honed through years of studious effort!”
“Really? Wow. It really is secret. I don't recognise it at all. Is it an adventurer thing?”
“This?” I looked down at my footwork. “Why, this is … this is the pouncing cobra sub-stance of my secret fencing style! A highly defensive position favouring swift counter attacks! Only a fool would attempt to break through my infallible parry and suffer my undodgeable reprisal!”
The elven woman narrowed her eyes at my perfectly acceptable way of holding a sword
“Hmmmmm. It doesn't really remind me of a pouncing cobra?”
I smiled. Hard.
To be so studiously examined was … well, a little bit embarrassing.
But no matter!
Once I defeated her, all thoughts of my supremely unorthodox pose would be forgotten!
Yes, my underhanded strike at her undefended flank had shockingly failed. And yes, this was now an open fight with an A-rank sword saint. And yes, this was indeed a minor problem. After all, for an untrained princess to defeat a sword saint in a fair fight was an impossible feat. The difference between our skill and experience was a canyon wider than the eyes could see.
That's why–I had absolutely zero intention to fight her fairly!
Ohohohoho!
If I were to defeat the Snow Dancer, then it would be with guile, subterfuge and an utter lack of chivalry!
And so, I turned to my assistant in crime!
There, safely tucked away behind a truly impressive snow bastion, my future handmaiden was peering over a solid battlement, ready to come to my assistance at a moment's notice.
And upon the walls of her castle, was a giant message written in the snow.
~ Fight On! Fight On! Juliette Official Fan Club! ♡ B-E-L-I-E-V-E ♡ ~
“You can do it!~” she cried, her hands forming a tunnel around her mouth. “We believe in you!~”
Quack, quack. Quack, quack. Squeezed under her arm was the crystal beaked duck. She hadn't bothered plucking the arrows from it.
I pursed my lips.
Then I turned to the elven woman.
“Oho … ohoho! S-See the peril you find yourself in, Snow Dancer! Even my loyal handmaiden sees no need to come to my immediate aid! Challenging me with a sword is as futile as challenging the stars!”
Far from fleeing at my proclamation, Ophelia's eyes lit up with anticipation.
Ugh, people with swords!
Why did they only think with their foreheads and not anything behind it?! Just go headbutt a wall if you want to expend energy!
“Funny, that,” she said, for some reason sheathing her sword. “I actually did try challenging the stars once.”
Her hand never left her sword's hilt.
Then, she smiled as a circle of white flames suddenly erupted around her.
“Spoiler alert–I failed,” she said, her hair rustling magnificently amongst the ring of blazing light. “But I learned how to get a bit closer to them at least … so, [Gravity Reversal].”
The Snow Dancer drew her sword.
I was aghast.
How did everyone know how to conjure flames except me?! Furthermore, was it a rule that overdone names were necessary for sword techniques?! Why, it's because of people like her that Coppelia wished to rename [Spring Breeze] to [Ball Of Doom]! Just what was a [Gravity Reversal]?!
As expected, names should provide clear and concise information! How was I supposed to prepare for something so ominously named with so little context?!
I already suspected I couldn't rely on my scowl to still her next attack! Even so, this sounded like something else entirely! Was she about to throw something at me?!
“–Hieee?!”
The moment her blade left its sheath, I could feel the ground … no, the
snow beneath me beginning to rise.
And then I realised that what she was throwing was, in fact,
me.
To my absolute chagrin, everything in a wide circle around me was suddenly lifted up into the air.
I was appalled. There were very few scenarios in which I wished to be removed from the ground, and all of them involved being carried by Coppelia as she rescued me to a dramatic backdrop of something exploding.
This was not that!
“–Hiiieeeeee?!”
T-This sensation!
It was practically the same as when my mother's maids woke me each morning! The hopeless indignation as I was swept away as part of my duvet and unceremoniously dumped to the floor!
And worst … it wasn't the sparkling floor of my bedroom which awaited me, but a ceiling as dull as it was dusty!
Glancing up, I witnessed the dark stonework slowly …
slowly approaching.
So slowly, in fact, that all I could feel was the insult being levied against both my time and my high standards for any demise!
A plain ceiling without a hint of embellishment? It was disgraceful! Of all the ceilings I wished to be splattered upon, it would be the magnificent
Plafond De Dix Mille Cygnes, painted upon the vestibule of Reitzlake's cathedral!
No, just as much as I refused to accept being hoisted into the air against my will, I also refused to be crushed against such an artless ceiling … especially by a bed of snow!
So the Snow Dancer wished to test winter against me, did she?
Ohohohohoho!!
How dare she belittle the kingdom's sharp seasonal changes! To wake up and witness the horror of a blanket of heavy snow suddenly throttling my begonias was a sight I was all too keenly aware of! Why, it was not merely insects which threatened my orchard, but the elements themselves!
That's why–
I leaned down, then shoved Starlight Grace directly into the snow.
“Such fine snow you offer. Let's see if we can make it finer yet, shall we?”
And then–I began to dig.
“
Witness the dawning morn, breaking these chains of malaise! Gardening Form, 5th Stance … [Winter Snow Shovel]!”
Ohhhohohohohoho!
Here it was!
A finely honed technique used specifically to remove mounds of snow without the need to painstakingly shovel away like a peasant in a field!
By digging my sword in overlapping, cross-crossing motions, I could make any mound of snow into powder so fine that once I blew at it, all the snow was instantly swept to the abyss!
… But this time, I had no wish to turn this snow into mist.
No, for the Snow Dancer's slovenly attack, she would receive the most slovenly [Winter Snow Shovel] in return!
Because instead of turning the snow into fine grains as I dug … I ceased, allowing the partially hewn icy snow to remain gathered beneath my boots.
I peered down at the snowy ground, seeing the innumerable tiny fissures I'd created.
And then–I gently blew.
BWOOOOOOOOOOOOMPH.
The mass of snow beneath me shuddered and exploded.
Suddenly, a hailstorm of my very own making shot towards the direction of the Snow Dancer, each rough, yet artistically shaped shard capable of being propelled by a single breath!
Ohhohohohohohoho!!!
An A-rank sword saint! And yet what was [Gravity Reversal], but an overly named way to throw a snowball?! Perhaps it could be used to bring down pigeons from the sky, but such an attack was worthless against the power of my snow shovelling skills, tested and refined in the unremitting cold of Tirea's winters!
Containing the cutting edge of a sharpened dagger, each icy shard utterly exposed the sword saint's poor naming sense as her technique was instead turned into a falling rain of doom … nor were the shards the only things to fall.
For a moment, I found myself suddenly suspended in the air, taking my place high above everyone's heads like the veritable angel I was.
And then I dropped, not yet having bloomed my wings yet.
“–Hiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee?!”

2023.05.31 01:30 kirchererbsen8 Reporting in on my (35f) bisalp experience!
I read so many personal stories before my surgery. Reading these stories was reassuring and informative. So I’m glad to add my own anecdata now.
Now to practicalities: I live in Germany and the surgery is not covered by insurance. I paid 1125 euros out of pocket, all included in the price. The surgery was carried out at an outpatient surgical facility, not a general hospital.
I wanted a female surgeon on principle (and because the statistics show that female patients have fewer complications when the surgeon is female), but I chose a male surgeon who I felt comfortable with and had positive reviews. I liked that he was mid-career, meaning he was instructed in relatively newer methods but also had considerable experience (~10 yrs of doing bisalps weekly), and I liked that he asked me exactly ZERO questions about my personal life during the initial consultation.
Before the surgery I prepared everything I could think of: -bought an electric heating pad (this was a great purchase) -OTC anti-bloat medicine (w the ingredient simeticon), anti-nausea medicine, cough drops for post-intubation discomfort - prunes for constipation - pure cranberry juice for UTI (in the case I was catheterized) - cleaning my whole apartment and preparing my space so I wouldn’t have to bend down - preparing a lot of healthy frozen leftovers (I cooked extra portions for a week) - pillow for under the seatbelt on the taxi ride home - Extra sterile bandages/band aids to cover my stitches afterward
I live alone in an apartment with an elevator. I had a close friend pick me up from the surgery and stay with me for a few hours (we ordered lunch and watched a movie). I arranged other friends to check on me by phone for the first 24 hrs.
The worst part for me was the worry and anticipation before the surgery. I could hardly concentrate the week before. But on the morning of I felt ready and even a little positive anticipation!
Pre-op: I take St. John’s wort (johanniskraut) and Valerian, which I stopped 3 weeks before the surgery. Supplements also stopped a week before (vitamin k+D, B, melatonin). I had a scheduled phone consult with the anesthesiologist a few days before. Finish eating by 8pm the night before, clear liquids allowed until 6 hrs pre-op (I had two cups of black coffee and a big glass of water morning of). Shower with antibacterial soap the day before and morning of surgery, no shaving day-of, no deodorant, hair products, or lotion.
Here is how my surgery went: Check in, wait, speak with anesthesiologist, wait, nurse gave me a pain pill, wait, invited back to change into gown. I was surprised to be able to leave my socks, underwear, and bra on during the surgery. I was not catheterized and they did not use a uterine manipulator (nothing through the cervix).
Next I was brought to operating room, there were about 7 people, surgeon comes in and says hello, anesthesiology assistant tells me to take deep breaths, then I’m out like a light by the third breath. I woke up a little hazy (like from a deep nap) in the operating room - they say it’s already done!
Post-surgery recovery room: Next thing I knew, I woke up again fully alert and calm in the recovery room, nurses check on me and bring me coffee and water, they direct me to a bathroom, no issues walking or using the bathroom, about an hr later I get to change and leave - able to walk out unassisted with my friend. I felt maybe a little shocked / like a kind of sedated relief.
I expected to be pretty bloated and/or for my abdomen to look a bit serious but it was actually fine, 3 big bandaids/wound coverings and no visible-to-me bloating.
Pain after surgery: I was fortunate to have only very minimal pain. I expected to wake up with a crater of pain in my abdomen, but it felt like three bee stings or big deep papercuts.
(Since it is so subjective, for pain scale reference my period pain has on rare occasion been a bad 8/10, like blurry vision from blinding pain, nausea and vomiting, pain all the way through the toes bad. And in the past I have herniated one of the discs in my spine/had radiating sciatic pain 7/10 and had my wisdom teeth out 4/10).
I’d rate my pain a 2/10, and the pain was very localized/not radiating. What hurt most was standing up, I guess this puts pressure/stretching on the lower abdomen, a brief 4/10. For several days after surgery I’d having short, random shooting pains in my cervix area and near the side incisions but still only 2/10. I managed the first day on 600mg ibuprofen and day two on 400mg of ibuprofen. No meds needed by day three. My doctor gave me 1 oxycodone but I did not need it.
Other after surgery: No post-op bleeding, but again they did not need to use a uterine manipulator.
It was very helpful to sleep propped up with pillows also under my arms. Normally a side sleeper, but that wasn’t comfortable until a week or so post-op.
Was also careful with stairs for a few days, but a single step, like off the sidewalk, was no issue even on day zero.
I did have some residual gas feeling which felt like pressure under my sternum and on the right side of my shoulder where it meets the neck. I had some discomfort taking deep breaths, especially in the right diaphragm/lung area. This went away by day three.
I had zero appetite for a few days after surgery.
What I did not really anticipate was considerable fatigue. I went for a slow 20 min walk outside on the day after (against the blood clot risk) but then needed a 3 hr nap. I was sleepy throughout the day for the first few days after the surgery. By day 4 I felt around 75%.
The other thing that was surprising is my sense of smell became very sharp for about a week. A quick Google suggests this can temporarily happen, but was a bit strange!
I couldn’t comfortably wear anything that buttoned right at my bellybutton incision for about 3 weeks.
Post-op follow up: I got regular surgical stitches that were removed on day 16. The stitches itched from days 5–10. I used antibacterial soap on the incisions when showering, and dried the bellybutton afterward with a q tip. It was a lot more comfortable to have the stitches covered under clothing with extra bandages (so that they didn’t pull or catch on clothing), so I was glad I bought those. Some light bruising around each of the three stitches.
My first period after the bisalp was delayed by 10 days and not fun for a few hours on the first day - managed w 800mg ibuprofen and a hot water bottle. The incision areas also felt sore. But normalized to my usual 2-400mg by the second day.
Emotional feeling after: My bisalp felt like one of the best and most defining days of my life. I felt a sense of freedom and unburdening I have never before experienced. For the first time EVER I feel like I’m guaranteed to be able to live my life for myself on my own terms

2023.05.31 01:19 EasyNewzApp The natural gas outlook will pressure fertilizer prices.
Natural gas futures in New York have fallen by 75% since reaching the highest level in 15 years last August. The fall for European prices has been even more extreme, now over 90% off the highs. Some analysts suggest prices could go negative this year due to high inventories and weak demand from the industrial sector.
European manufacturing is not rebounding the way many had hoped. German’s revised first-quarter negative GDP technically places the country into a recession. With the summer approaching and renewable energy sources about to increase, this is a recipe for periods of very depressed prices. Global exporters are worried that buyers may look to cancel existing purchase agreements.
The positive for farmers is fertilizer prices in most categories have returned to historical averages and could fall throughout the summer. Biological fertilizers gained market share as prices of chemical fertilizers reached all-time highs a year ago.
Farmers will have more choices between price-competitive chemical and biological fertilizers, which should support profitability in the second half 2023. This could also keep South American production trending higher even as profitability in Brazil returns to more normal levels.
