(Repost 2) New Card Reviews: Pieter Aertsen!
Hello, we are now going to review the biblical food painter, Pieter Aertsen! Buckle your seats everyone, because I'll make you chuckle once I say "meat".
Energy: 3
Power: 20
Rarity: Common (Basic)
Special Ability: Lange Piet ( When returned, your remaining Curious Cuisine cards in hand gain +14 Power permanently.
Anyways, this foodie painter is a supporter for your Curious Cuisine cards. Since those get a buff this week, expect this card to play a big role, alongside Pizza. It has below-average stats for its cost, but if you want a pure Arts & Culture deck, you can throw out Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Joan Miró for that good buff. Splash buff + permanent buff? Well, it's safe to say that this artists "meat" (I'm talking about the Meat Stall here, even though the picture, which is his "Market Scene" painting, is about vegetables) can provide really good buffs. You are typically meant to play this card alone for the best boost possible, since it has a Return trigger.
His food paintings are not invincible though, and this card can be locked off by using The Brain or Triathlon, preventing him from using his Return ability. Since he is a specialist card, you have to throw at least some Curious Cuisine deck, since he would not work without them. And they have to be in your hand making debuffers like Lambeosaurus and Lu Bu capable of easily beating his "meat" (The Meat Stall painting again). Last but not the least, he is used exclusively for the ability, unless you want to run a Prominent Painters deck. Use other cards like The Ketterling Bug and Plutonium instead if you want generalist stats.
In general, this guy's "meat" (The Meat Stall painting, to be exact) is quite difficult to beat, and the other food paintings of his are no slouch either. Thus, this card can easily get a A in viability. By the way, I fixed a few typos and added another "Meat Stall" referrence. Also, this is another repost.
Disclaimer: All referrences to Pieter Aertsen's "meat" here will only refer to his "Meat Stall" painting. So mods, don't remove this post, I have already provided context.

The downside is its really text heavy and works counter to the common Reddit format of one topic, one post.

2023.05.31 00:11 themezzilla PSA: don't neglect your brain!

TL;DR - was doing everything right and couldn't fully heal, took a vacation and focused on breathing/being calm around food and now I'm symptom free.
Hey folks -
Been lurking here for the past 4 months as I've had my first ever bout with gastritis. It came on after a series of stressful family events and over eating. Confirmed diagnosis from endoscopy, negative h pylori, gallbladder good via CT and ultrasound. Still waiting on a SIBO test but I might not take it anymore.
Symptoms were: - gnawing/burning pain right under ribcage on left and right sides - general upset feeling after meals - low appetite - weight loss
I went through 4-5 cycles of: being in pain -> cutting diet to minimum -> feeling better -> taking a small risk with food -> being in pain. I discovered that I was so anxious around eating, that sometimes even if I ate something I knew was ok with the stomach, I would have pain. I also noticed that in periods of high stress my pain would flare, even if I hadn't eaten recently.
Instead of obsessing over diet and supplements (I tried them all), I moved to focusing on being calm and lowering stress. By chance I had a trip to St Lucia island through my company planned, and I was so scared of being away from home and what I would eat. To my surprise, as soon as I got to the beach and was in the sun, I felt great! I tried a beer, a piece of pizza, even a Pina colada and it went down fine. I ate fresh fruit every day. Our minds are truly connected to the gut.
My message to y'all is to give proper care to the mind as well as the body. My anxiety around eating was holding me back from fully healing. Take breaks from work, go on walks, sit and breathe a few times a day. It will help.
I would still recommend cabbage juice and DGL chews for the toughest days. They certainly helped me heal as well.
Cheers and we can all heal from this!

2023.05.30 21:36 MH_91 First-time solo travelling Vancouver Island - Rough Itinerary

Hey everyone! I'm excited to plan my first solo trip, and I could really use some guidance from the local community here. I've been checking out some recent posts, but any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm planning to visit this amazing island for about a week, with the option to extend if there's more to explore. Here's my current itinerary:

Day 1: Explore Victoria.
Days 2-3: Enjoy two days in Tofino, including visits to Chesterman Beach and Long Beach.
day 4: 1 night in Port Hardy to visit San Josef Bay during a day trip. I'm planning to rent a car, but I've heard the road conditions can be bumpy during the last hour.
Day 5: Wrap up the trip with another day in Victoria before heading back home.

I'm a fan of capturing beautiful views through my camera lens, and I absolutely love trying out local food, especially pizza and good coffee. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for picturesque spots or must-visit local eateries!
Update: Thankfully nothing was booked yet! Thanks a bunch for the feedback, folks! I'm stoked to see all these comments rolling in. It's awesome to know that I can count on you to help me fine-tune my itinerary. I'll definitely play around with my schedule and see how I can make it work. So, keep those suggestions coming please! but seems like I might have to double my vacation time on the island!

2023.05.30 21:06 tongfatherr Why is Copenhagen so conservative?

I'm Canadian and lived all over Europe, but nowhere as conservative in some ways as Copenhagen. Danes eat the same food all over the place. Sandwich places all carry the same 5 sandwiches, 99% of kebab places taste exactly the same, same with pizza and burgers. The windows on buildings are all identical and an absolutely brutal design that catches too much wind or completely closed - why not adopt sliding windows? You could even keep the same look.
I find this all throughout Denmark: the furniture hasn't changed it's overall style since the 60s. Some people have argued this with me but if you look at dining chairs made back then, you can find identical brand new ones today. Same with the coffee tables etc. It's just SO homogeneous it's almost a bit scary. Zero variation anywhere. IPA and pilsner with a wheat beer mixed in. Pizza, burger and kebabs, or bagels, not much else for lunch time fast food. Paint the walls white with pine or beach wood. And Danes live to go to Italy on holiday but bring zero of if back except the love for pasta.
Why don't they want to liven things up a little? Why not some variation? Sure I'll get comments about the Michelin star restaurants....who cook food that's not in a Danish or Scandinavian tradition, or that that there's a few indian and vietnamese restaurants around. Yes, I've seen them. But they are the overwhelming minority.
Anyways, I'm just curious how a society is just happy with doing a d eating the same thing over and over for their entire lives. I guess you gotta give em credit for being content with it?

2023.05.30 20:49 monika1927 The host misrepresented the listing location and its proximity to the beach and boardwalk in the description. Should I contact AirBnB?

We just checked out from a 4 night stay at the Jersey Shore yesterday and had a subpar experience with our AirBnB. In addition to the house being dusty and being told that I have to get my own toilet paper beyond the 2 rolls provided for six guests, staying 4 nights, they completley misrepresented the location of the house and it's proximity to the beach.
In the listing's description, it was stated that the home was centrally located and only “an 8-minute walk to the beach and boardwalk". We chose this house specifically because we wanted to be within walking distance of the beach and boardwalk. However, if you walk directly east from the house it will take you 22 minutes to get to the beach. Additionally, it is a 28-minute walk to reach the bordwalk where all the activities are happening. This resulted in us driving the entire time we were there and paying for parking at the beach. This property was far from centrally located.
I left a 3 star review explaining our experience about an hour ago and the host has already changed the description to say that it's an 8-minute DRIVE to the beach, but they seem to be already booked up for the whole summer, so I feel really bad for anyone who has already booked with the same expectations as us.
Should I contact AirBnB for additional support? I feel like I was cheated into booking a nearly $2,500 house for 4 nights that was described as walking distance to the beach, which it wasnt.

EDIT: I sent the host a mesaage and asked for a partial refund. Honestly, If I don't hear back I'll probably just let it be.
EDIT. 2: Host freaked out at me over messages saying that my " review was extremely harsh, inaccurate and misleading" also saying "How despicable, you should be ashamed of yourself." He also said that he can make that walk in 10 minutes even after I sent him a screenshot of google maps showing that it takes between 22-24 minutes to walk to the beach depending on which route you take (it's over a mile). I'm sure he will try to get the review down. Go figure. I am probably going to end it here.

2023.05.30 19:55 Lonely-Anybody8515 Has the GTA Remaster improved to an enjoyable playthrough

So I didn't buy it when it came out because of all the glitchy reviews, but I'm dying to get back into cruising Vice City as I did as a youngling killing hookers and stealing motorcycles on the beach. Has it become something I can enjoy or has the dream of reliving my childhood died?

2023.05.30 19:26 Quiet_Ad_9718 Anybody have pictures of a slick looking late model E-series?

Long story short I'm looking for a roadtripper for my blended family of seven-kids currently ranging in age from 4 to 12. We have family as far flung as Plattsburgh, NY, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Columbia, TN plus we just like to get out see/do things in general. I'm thoroughly sold on the idea of finding a well cared for ex-airport shuttle E-350 Super Duty Wagon (not the extended version) with the right seating configuration but my GF is not loving the idea of driving around in something that looks (to her) like her dad's old work van...LOL In any event, I'm picturing a 2014 E-350, black, tinted windows, with black XL trim bumpers and grill. I'd probably try to get some 17 or 18" Super Duty wheels on it with a bit lower profile A/T tire. Anyone got pictures of something along these lines?

2023.05.30 18:39 spradc0812 Back to the Beach Review

Now that they’ve finished recapping season 2, here are the things I wish they had dived deeper into/given more of a behind the scenes take on:
  1. What actually happened with Stephen, Kristen, LC? They keep saying Kristen/Stephen had sort of a break and Stephen hooked up with LC and there was a “fight” but that’s it. I wanted to know more about how Kristen/LC reconciled and what actually happened.
  2. Did Stephen and Kristen still hangout in LA after the show? Why didn’t they try to rekindle after moving to the same city?
  3. What happened with Kristen and all her friends? Seems like her and Alex and Jessica just stopped talking soon after the show.
  4. What was the actual timeline of Jason/Jessica/Alex M?
Overall, it was clear they didn’t remember a lot of details and Alex M or someone else should have been a guest host this season to help piece some of the drama together because Kristen/Stephen were barely in it! I enjoyed the podcast but Stephen was pretty annoying and Kristen just played dumb or didn’t remember anything. I didn’t care about MTVs editing antics, I wanted to know real life!

2023.05.30 18:36 meggygirl At the Beach vs. Coco Paradise vs. Waikiki Beach Coconut: aka All the Coconuts

I searched this sub high and low for reviews on the differences between At the Beach, Coco Paradise, and Waikiki Beach Coconut and found lots of lovers of all three scents but no concrete comparisons. Sharing my thoughts in case it helps someone else decide which one(s) to get!
In a (coco)nutshell:
I ended up getting At the Beach and Waikiki Beach Coconut and passing on Coco Paradise. My only complaint with these two is staying power, but I also feel like B&BW fans know what we're getting into and I welcome the opportunity to switch up my scent or layer throughout the day.
At the Beach is, IMO, the Coastal Grandmother of the bunch. She's fresh, light, and effortless. If there are sunscreen notes they are expensive sunscreen to my nose. I got the new packaging and it's so pretty. I love the copper accents on the shower gel and FFM and the texture on the labels.
To my nose, Coco Paradise was just too heavy for daytime wear and was giving heavy beach resort at night + 80's suntan oil vibes. This one wasn't for me personally but I'm kind of fickle about seasonality with my scents and wouldn't be surprised if I liked it on a day when it wasn't 80+ degrees out. 😅
Waikiki Beach Coconut is the one that surprised me most. I assumed she would be my least favorite but I was smitten at first sniff. I'm learning that fruity scents really pop on my skin and this one is basically like drinking a piña colada on a breezy yet sunny day.
In the Game of Coconuts everyone wins, but if I had to pick a favorite I would choose At the Beach!
