2023.05.30 18:25 Bombadeir Stop One of the Grand Tour: Speaking in Houston
Good Morning my fellow Texans! I am honored to be within the presence of all you fine folks.
As I’m sure many of you know I have recently put forward a package to industrialize this here city of Houston. This will bring massive growth in the economy, job markets, and liquid equity of not just the city of Houston but also The Lone Star State.
However I have not come to you to tell you what I have done. You can clearly see the growth and action I’m trying my damnedest to bring about. I have come to the dear city of Houston to speak of the future. Not only of Texas, but of the Dixie, and of our nation.
First of all I have released many of my major packages. There is still alot to get done however. My plans for the future are the following.
Veteran healthcare in Texas. This healthcare will cover 90% of all costs for service members healthcare needs. Alongside this it will also cover the cost of housing for veterans, and allow their direct families to stay in housing facilities for visits if the service member is hospitalized.
Next I plan to implement freedom of death. When an individual dies the family will receive the option for a state funeral. The state will offer to either bury or cremate deceased individuals. Families will be allowed to bury their loved ones outside of cemeteries so long as the body is marked via a headstone etc. and that the owner of the property of which the burial will take place gives permission for the burial to occur on their land. Funeral homes must be able to properly bury a body. Mainly in regards to depth of the burial.
Now I’m sure you’d love to hear what I have for the nation. Well I’ll be legalizing marijuana, streamlining the federal government, dismantling the CIA, reforming the Military, removing federal subsidies from arms companies, growing our agriculture, maintaining our natural resources, and reforming our budget.
My specific plans for these policies are in the works. Myself and advisors are perfecting what the Bombadeir administration plans to bring to the federal government.
So my dear people, please elect me as your President. I will do all I can to bring extraordinary reformation to the federal government the likes of which I have here in Texas. Thank y’all for y’all’s time. God bless Texas, God bless the Dixie, and God bless America.

2023.05.30 18:04 connorcrenshaw Exploring the Great Outdoors: Unveiling the Three Benefits of Mountain Biking
| https://preview.redd.it/0pa34996sz2b1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13cebe534d52596ba9df5b86f737a21df2e22ca5 Mountain biking is not just a thrilling adventure sport; it also offers a multitude of benefits that extend beyond the adrenaline rush. From physical fitness and mental well-being to connecting with nature, the advantages of mountain biking are both diverse and rewarding. In this article, we will delve into three key benefits that make mountain biking an exceptional activity for individuals seeking excitement and personal growth. Connor Crenshaw thinks mountain biking is an excellent full-body workout that engages various muscle groups, leading to improved physical fitness. Unlike conventional gym routines, mountain biking provides a dynamic and immersive experience in natural environments. As you navigate through rugged terrain and conquer challenging trails, your leg muscles, including quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves, receive a significant workout. Uphill climbs build endurance, while downhill descents strengthen your core muscles as you maintain balance and control. Moreover, mountain biking is a low-impact activity that puts less stress on your joints compared to running or high-impact sports. It helps to improve cardiovascular health, boost lung capacity, and enhance overall endurance. Regular mountain biking sessions contribute to weight loss, increased muscle tone, and improved flexibility, making it an ideal choice for those aiming to achieve and maintain a healthy body. In addition to its physical benefits, mountain biking plays a crucial role in promoting mental well-being and relieving stress. Engaging in outdoor activities, particularly in natural settings, has been proven to enhance mental health and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Mountain biking combines physical exertion with a serene environment, enabling riders to connect with nature and experience the therapeutic effects of the great outdoors. As you navigate through breathtaking landscapes and conquer challenging trails, the release of endorphins during physical exercise stimulates a sense of joy and happiness. The immersive experience of mountain biking allows you to momentarily disconnect from daily stressors, providing a mental escape and a chance to recharge. The concentration required to navigate through obstacles and make quick decisions sharpens your focus and promotes mindfulness, allowing you to achieve a state of flow and leave behind worries and distractions. Mountain biking takes you off the beaten path, allowing you to explore pristine wilderness and immerse yourself in nature's beauty. Unlike traditional road cycling, mountain biking presents an opportunity to venture into remote areas and discover hidden trails that are inaccessible by vehicles. By pedaling through forests, meadows, and mountains, you develop a deep connection with the natural world and gain a profound appreciation for the environment. submitted by connorcrenshaw to u/connorcrenshaw [link] [comments] |
2023.05.30 18:02 Wynter_Sirius (U.k.) London based company is trying to push me out with only2 months paid gardening leave instead of my redundancy. I've been there 10 yrs
I started work from home during the pandemic. The quality of work did not drop, actually, it improved. Last year I bought a house in another city. I notified my line manager of this throughout the period I was house hunting and was never told not to do this or that it would be problematic.
A few weeks ago I was called into a meeting and told I would be put on a remote contract seeing as commuting cross country throughout the week would be too expensive and extremely yime consuming, details pending, which I was fine with. Yesterday I had a meeting with my bosses boss. HR were not present it was just he and I. He said the company is willing to offer me 2 months paid gardening leave to find another job. Whenever I said redundancy he would bring it back to gardening leave. This was the only option I was given.
I've worked for this company for 10 years. I missed my dad's funeral to ensure one of their projects got out on time. My siblings haven't spoken to me since.
I know I can say "no" to gardening leave and I've done nothing to breach my work contract.
I feel sick that I've given 10 years to this company and they choose this way to try and push me out.
Thank you for reading. Any advice welcome.

2023.05.30 17:38 emptylittlememories I just want to be with my dad again
My dad passed away last year and it’s been the worst year of my life, you would think my family would be there for me but it’s been in fact the opposite, in fact I’ve dealt with more drama then I could have ever imagine, from my dads side planning the funeral across the street from my childhood home, my mom constantly telling me how she didn’t cry when she first out and the fact that she and I got into a physical altercation because of her disrespecting my deceased father and me losing jobs because of my declining mental health, and always being worried whether I will be homeless every month, I genuinely can’t do this anymore. I see no reason to go on at this point and to be honest I just want to be with my dad again, I miss having someone that believed in me and I just miss him overall. When I was a kid I always thought I’d kill myself the moment he died but I made it to a year and I think he’d be proud of me at least for that. I’m sorry dad, I really did try my best.

2023.05.30 17:30 BilledConch8 Comparing 1 vs 2 stage compressor
Hello new friends!
I am looking for some help choosing a new HVAC system for a house we recently moved into. It's a 2-story, ~2400sq/ft home with 2 HVAC units (Gas Furnace) that are about ~17 years old and in need of replacement. I've got quotes from 2 solid installers that are very similar in price and reputation, but I'm not able to decide. I'm not asking for feedback on the quote itself, as I understand those posts are not very popular, but instead I want to get feedback on the type of systems we're looking at and if one is the clear front-runner or not. What it really comes down to is 1-stage compressor with a lifetime warranty, or a 2-stage compressor with 10yr warranty. I'm still not sure where I land on the Heat Pump choice, but Gas seems to be the better option as we'd have to run new wiring to accommodate the HP.
We have solar panels on the house and efficiency is a high priority. We are located in NC, USA, so the summers can get pretty warm and the winters are fairly mild. From what I understand the installewarranty matters more than the actual parts being installed, and I see these installers as very similar.
The first installer recommends Trane and quoted us for several variations, with the Gas Furnace/2-stage AC being the front runner. They also come with the option of 48-month 0% financing which is very attractive. They're a large regional company, not as large or easy to get a hold of as the other installer, but still very reasonable. They did the original install when the neighborhood was being built.
The second installer recommends Goodman/Amana and did not quote us anything for heat pumps or a 2-stage compressor, they went up to an Amana version of the Daikin FIT for variable speed compressofan. They said the price of the variable speed was more than the 2-stage with current Amana discounts. They also come with the option of 18-month 0% financing, and have been incredibly patient + easy to reach for any questions. They're a larger regional company and have many techs employed so getting someone to come over quickly isn't a concern. They offer a lifetime warranty on the AC compressor.
Both installers offer 10 yr parts+labor warranty, lifetime warranty on Heat Exchanger (for Gas Furnace).
Bundle prices for 2 units
Installer 1 (Trane) | | |
| Gas furnace w/2-stage AC (XR16 series, 16 SEER) | $25,700 |
| Dual Fuel w/2-stage AC (XR16 series, 16 SEER) | $29,000 |
| Heat Pump w/2-stage AC (XR16 series, 16 SEER) | $26,600 |
Installer 2 (Goodman) | | |
| Gas furnace w/1-stage AC (16 SEER) | $25,000 |
| Gas furnace w/variable stage AC (17 SEER) | $31,000 |
Feedback I'm looking for:
- Does the lifetime warranty for the Goodman 1-stage compressor bring it to equal footing with the 10yr warranty of the Trane 2-stage compressor?
- Is the 2-stage compressor expected to have a longer life than the 1-stage, and so the lifetime warranty isn't as important?
- At the end of the day will the total power draw be about equal between Goodman and Trane Gas Furnace SEER16, as they have the same SEER rating?
- Is a Heat Pump unit worth it? I hear conflicting remarks on cost/ROI/efficiency and am inclined to stay with Gas as I know that works.

2023.05.30 17:28 swordy23 What should be my next steps after graduating college?
Hi
personalfinance,
I have just graduated college with a Computer Science degree and was able to land a remote job for $75,000/yr. I have decided to live at home in North Carolina for a few years in order to save up for a potential down payment for a house. I'm thinking about living at home for about 1-2 years before moving out just to save up as much money as possible. My parents are very generous and are letting me live here rent-free and taking care of food costs! I will just need to pay for any other expenses, meaning I can potentially save around ~60-70% of my income.
I currently have around $25,000 in savings.
My dad wants me to save up $100,000 for a down payment on a 300-400k house. Do you think this would be wise? I was also considering just renting after saving up money since the mortgage rates right now are extremely high. I'm also concerned about whether or not I'll be staying here in NC for more than 5 years. There is a possibility that I will need to move for a job, so I'm worried about buying a property here. My dad says I can just rent it out and he would be willing to check on it from time to time for me if that does happen.
Any advice?

2023.05.30 17:03 retireddream Burden to others
I lost my husband suddenly two weeks ago. I have been staying with my friends away from home the first week. Then I needed to go home to take care of stuff and one of my friends stayed with me in my house, so I won't be alone in a big house. Last week, I had only 1 day by myself. Every day some friends would come and stay with me till evening. It was a great distraction. We talked and I cried and we talked....They invited me to stay with them this week..But I feel that it was too much of a burden. I don't want to drag everyone down. They asked if I would think about going back to work....But I don't have the focus or energy to deal with work....Funeral is still three weeks away. Families are coming from abroad. I need to get the house in order before they arrive...Things like packing his office and put a mattress in, getting some of his stuff ready for his family to take home....I feel the world has stopped, everything slowed down, no energy to do anything. I still forced myself to go take care of bank, car, insurance etc and grocery shopping..But just in a robotic mode. Told work that I was not ready to go back and I think I will go back after funeral.
My grief and my sorrow..How long before I become a burden to others?

Story 1- Stone and Grass
Chapter 2- Behaviors
Emergency rooms were trained to be ready for any arrivals at any time of the day or night, but the strange cases that were arriving had the nurse practitioners baffled. Three had arrived at a little past 2am, and a further single was arriving presently. The ambulance had pulled away seconds after they'd carefully unloaded their unconscious cargo at the emergency entrance and were wheeling them inside, keeping an eye out for any changes. The lead of the two, a fox named Maxwell Forscythe, was handing over the paperwork for the patient and pre-planning the routes for the trauma center room to park them in.
"Student, male, early 20s, comatose, irregularities in BP and bodily temperature, is that all that could be gleaned on the ride over?" asked the nurse on duty. Maxwell's partner nodded. "We checked him as much as we could without disrobing him, not a scratch, just low core temp and a weakened pulse for someone his age, possible arhythmia maybe?" "No way to be sure 'til he's seen by the staff, and have the cardiologist have a look. Wheel him into Obs G202, it should be open." "Should be, Paul?" asked Maxwell. Paul looked up, half-awake. "It's open, okay? This place is going a little bananas after the previous patients, y'know."He grimaced at him and signaled his partner so they could move the gurney. The ward was a bit of distance, but there was no immediate danger as of yet. His partner, a human woman named Grisholm, was peering closely at the inert body. "See anything?" "Look, I'm not saying we need to check the patient's neck again, but this feels--" "Good grief, Griz, we already looked, he hasn't been sucked off by a vampire." Her face went very pink. "That's not what its called, it's 'drained'! and it can be anywhere, sure, but the neck or the leg, I mean... this is exactly how it goes, unless the person is just ripped to pieces." The fox sighed, using his mag-badge to open the double doors ahead. "Well, I'm pretty sure this guy wasn't ripped to pieces, but vampires, Griz? In Canada?" "The world is a mighty strange place sometimes, and small places are just where shit like this tends to go down. I'm just saying we should keep our eyes open today, that's all." "Just in case our friend here rises in the night to suck someone else off, yeah?" he teased, knowing exactly how to needle his friend. Grisholm was at a lack for words, just making half-syllables in protest as they reached the elevator. "I read that book you lent me, y'know, I see why you like this stuff so much." Grisholm looked deflated until she caught Max's eyes, one of which was winked with a grin. "It's alright, Griz... I do it too." Her friend looked a little placated, helping to push the patient into the lift and pressing the next floor button. "Let's just not rule it out yet, okay? Now, come on, game-face time, the day's already started."
Hours later, after an alarm deep in the Deckard Forest Range's only unnatural home had gone off and Kari had finished washing and getting dressed, the message was finally reported over the news, which she was watching on her phone with apt attention, her pupils widened in curiosity while automatically eating her breakfast.
"Hospital authorities are preparing a statement at this time, but have denied these mysterious cases as any sign for panic over unproven conditions, Jeremy?" Jeremy Cole was the on-site reporter, who the feed switched to, the hospital in the background full of activity from police standing watch, to people showing up to mill around as they often do. "That's right, Grace, the only details being released in surety, so far, point to the victims being discovered within our local favorite, Mt. Loyal University. They began arriving as early as 2 this morning, and the scenes have been under careful scrutiny. Whether or not these are scattered cases of extreme fatigue, or the beginnings of another infection sweeping the country is still no one's guess to make. Jeremy Cole, reporting live in Calgary, BCB News." "Thank you, Cole, we intend to keep this story updated as the facts are confirmed. Follow the progress on Flitter at--" Kari backed out of the video feed, thinking on the details that took place in the classroom yesterday, and of her gruff teacher. 'He wouldn't just succumb to weariness just like that, he would've gone to the teacher's lounge and caught a nap like he does,' she thought, getting up to pace a little, 'which means it was a sneak attack, practically untraceable, and enacted on the state of being for-" Her eyes widened again as she came to a stop, putting together some details towards a possible answer. Who was a restless-looking passerby that was headed in the direction of chemicals, many of which can be used to trigger invisible manners of attack? Who was passing the scene of the incident and looking particularly smug about something? Who smelled of sharp ethanol that could've been a fumigation bomb scent? "It was HIM!" she squawked suddenly, looking around as if a timebomb had just begun to countdown, hurrying over to get her shoes and jacket on, along with the standard wallet-phone-keys trifecta being pocketed. If anything, classes would be off or postponed during this weirdness, but she'd call on the drive over just to make sure. 'He's either here to steal some expensive artifacts, or... looking for someone, and either way doesn't look good.' She thought as she got onto the road to town, rolling her window down to catch the fresh, cold air of the morning.
The small lifeform had been moving around through the garden all day before heading towards a number of weird smells nearby. A long soil path led to a burnished wooden door, which the creature easily walked under. Within was a rainbow of enticing scents, and its sensors went wild probing all over the place to find small specks of food to chew up. Gradually, it found its way up to a huge, breathing creature of some kind, heaped in a pile in the corner of the chamber. The climb all over its body was an interesting journey for the intruder, but when it stepped onto an expanse lighter gray, the giant tensed up and awoke, turning its colossal head to slowly open huge eyes like golden boulders. It froze under this monstrous gaze, trying to look uninteresting, but a huge pair of digits picked it up, and its fate was sealed as it waited for the end.
"Hey, no visitors at this hour." said Tom, licking the small beetle off his finger to munch it up and lay back down, trying to let the blessed sleep come back, but he'd looked at his phone and seen the time, too late now. With a long exhale, he got up and began looking for a clean shirt, coming up empty except for the shirt he had on, so the day's errand was clear. "Well, thank god the plants don't have any clothes to take care of, I gotta feed them and see to their good health already." he said brightly, secretly picturing what the main garden would look like with the garden-life all sporting tiny sweaters and hats with a grin. A large knapsack was full of his clothes, the shirt and Jacket from yesterday were on, his shoes were worn, and he was carefully out back into the world, locking the Door behind him with the finesse of a safecracker. He put on some earbuds and began walking towards the main street, knowing he'd seen a laundromat there the day before. It felt like a good day to get something done; the weather was the pleasant side of chilly on the cloudless day, and folks seemed to be out walking the main street. Tom was in a rather good mood, also knowing of the beers in the knapsack to help the early afternoon chore along. And so, there he was 20 minutes later at 24 Laveuse, beginning the large load of laundry and setting back on the plastic seats, moving his tail so he didn't squash it. The place was a little empty and the small fenced area on one side of the parking lot made for good hiding, so he stepped outside to carefully get down to libations to pass the time. Traffic came and went like it usually did, one car taking the nearby right turn kind of harshly but otherwise nothing else of notice. There was a wandering guy with the air of a bum about him, sort of haunting the crossroads, and Tom privately hoped he would carry on before attracting police. Strangely enough, another short parade of cars was going thru the town, looking like a gangsta's funeral procession. Tom stared vacantly until they were gone, and he was starting to wonder just what this town's deal was. It was at this moment that the hands emerged silently from behind and seized his arms tightly, hauling him back with sudden urgency before he could panic properly. "What the fuck?! You wanna... god, wha-?" he barked, only to be hauled back harder into the side alley by the building, and out of sight. "Careful, dammit, there's a beverage here-" The tall can was smacked out of his hand. "Hey! what's your damage, guy?" Tom demanded as he was turned around roughly, only to meet those same blue eyes and red hair from yesterday. "Oh, wait, it's you fro--" Kari got her best threat display face on and poked a claw to the underside of his chin, which managed to inescapably encourage his silence."Now, answers, spill 'em, what were you really up to yesterday?" she now demanded. "I don't know what you're talking about, I was just looking for my friend to return a phone charger." "You didn't say that." "You didn't ask." he replied mildly, averting his gaze in a condescending manner. Kari growled in her throat and tightened her grip on his shoulders. "Watch it, wise-ass. Did you see or hear anything before the disturbance yesterday?" "What disturbance, I was already on my way when people found him." Her face went almost sideways in an accusative scowl. "Don't play dumb, I saw your ass drifting thru that crowd, and you saw me looking at you, captain salute." Tom's face contorted in regret. "You saw that, huh." "Yeah, I did." she grunted before slamming him roughly to the wall and releasing him. Tom looked as angry as he could without looking confrontational; something about her strength and methods did not point to a fight with any outcome but a grievous loss on his side. "Alright," he said, stepping back one step to opt for a cigarette from his fresh pack and turning from her to light it, "So I was near the scene, what else have you got?" Her angered look softened a micrometer and she took a few steps, mostly to get away from the rich smoke. "The guy from yesterday, the unconscious one? He was a good man, good teacher, and now his life might be in danger. You were at least in the hallway over there, did you see or hear anything that'd help out with finding the culprit?" "Help out?" he said, plucking the cig from his lips, "Look, Ms. Conrad, I-" "Conniff." "Whatever! I was just passing thru and it just felt like you got stuck having to deal with the cops, alright? It was rude to snark you, I apologize, I thought you were just in trouble or something. Apart from my friend, there wasn't really anybody on that side of the building that wasn't behind doors." Kari looked him over, trying to get a read on his intentions, and he seemed to notice this with disdain. "What's your deal anyways, apple-polisher, you some sort of local hero or something?" Tom continued, dragging on the smoke while shooting her a look. She frowned this time, an expression without anger that was a different face entirely. "He's a friend of mine, one of the few I have. You would do the same if it was someone you cared about, wouldn't you?" Tom almost answered honestly, but he was too mad to focus on polite truths. "No, I wouldn't, and I don't think you would either." he snapped, "I'm a pragmatist, number one's the only thing I came into this world worried with, and it's the only number I'll need." "Wow, okay, I thought you were just a sneaky guy before, but now I can see you're just an asshole." "And so are you, Ms. Confit, and I can't stand people that pretend to care." "Who's pretending? Frankly, *I* can't stand little shits like you who think their lousy life is free license to take everybody down with them." Tom was really mad now, and was almost considering lighting the fire in this fulminating argument, but he just sneered and flicked his cigarette ahead, stepping bitterly on it as he left. "You don't have anything I need, nor do I have anything you need, we're even. Now leave me alone, will you?" Kari wanted to kick his ass so badly in that fury-soaked moment. "I don't think anyone needs anything you've got, Mr. Blackberry, least of all YOU.. and it's CONNIFF, you son of a bitch!" she snarled at the retreating raccoon. "Actually, I can think of something I need from someone." he said, turning suddenly. "Yeah, and what's that, a chemical shower?" "No, you owe me a beer, kitty cat!" They were easily half a foot from each other now, staring daggers into daggers. The snow leopard spat harshly on the ground and left in a weaponized huff, tail twitching madly behind her. Tom felt the heat in his ears still peaking. "I better not see you again, or it'll be too soon!" he called after her, "And I smell bad because of my dirty laundry I carried, not because- well, I meant to put this shirt in with.. ohhhh, god DAMMIT!" and he kicked at the wall of the building before stomping back to check his clothes. "Bitch..." he muttered, trying to leave the incident behind.

2023.05.30 16:38 HypotheicalQs Sending Guns Somewhere Safe
I know that no one here is a lawyer, and I’m just looking for some advice to work through an unfortunate situation.
Is it worth it to simply transfer ownership/possession of a CT Otheanything potentially “troublesome” to a trusted person out of state until I can move to a more free state?
I am a younger firearms owner, with all the new legislation and regulation coming down the pipe, I plan on moving out of CT as soon as I can. In the meantime, would it be worth it, or possible, to simply transfer ownership of Others/any potentially to-be banned firearms, to someone in a free(er) state like SC, FL, TX, NC, etc? I know each state obviously has its own regulations that could change -and please call me out and correct me if I’m significantly glossing over important details- but it seemed that broadly, if an unmodified, CT legal firearm was taken to any free state, it’s legally in the clear.
If anyone has done this, I’d really appreciate your input.
I’ve reached out to people in free states and am looking at my options. I know I’ll have to pay transfer fees through an FFL, are there any other costs and concerns I should be aware of?
One of the big things I’m hoping to find more info on, is if it is possible to ship the firearms over to said state (if so, is there a particular service that would need to be used, or one that folks might recommend?). Or would I need to buckle up for a road trip and take a few vacation days to see it all get done?
I’ve never done a transfer to someone, let alone out of state, would I need to be physically present? Would they need copies of my Driver’s License and permit? Just my License (as the permit is just to buy, not to posses firearms in CT)?
I know this is quite a few questions, but I’m quite concerned and sadly these concerns seem to be justified. Thank you to anyone who’s read this far, many thanks.
The plan I’m starting to put together would be to hopefully ship the firearms in question to a free state and have them transfered to a trusted person (sorry for the vagueness, I just figured in matters like this, less detail is always better, the state in question seems to allow everything legal in CT and the Other would be taken down and just transfered as the lower, with no upper or evil plastic brace attached just to make sure) The trusted person in question can legally own firearms and has a room that they already use for storage of their own guns. Then I’d mail down some socks and locks, or possibly see if there’s an affordable safe on the market to buy for them (I know this could be pricey, but for helping me preserve a modicum of my rights, I should probably be willing to spend a bit extra to make things as convenient as possible for them). After that, simply let the guns sit while I work on moving out of CT, and when that day comes, hope said trusted person is willing to transfer them back to me.
Please let me know of any and all holes in this idea, I know no solution is perfect, but I want to find the best one I can. I know no one is going to be able to hold my hand for this whole process, but any helping hand is deeply appreciated, personal experience, links, suggestions, anything and everything, is a godsend.
Thank you for the advice I’ve found on this page, it gives me a lot of hope to see how many people care about preserving our rights in CT. Though I’m hoping to safely and legally transfer my “troublesome” firearms to a free state, this gives me hope that in spite of that, we might be able to fight and win the battles necessary so that one day I and anyone else who has done this could bring them back home. You guys and gals are fantastic. Thank you again and God Bless.

2023.05.30 16:18 Janana123 Grandmother dies, perfect time to talk about bicycles and lunch
TLDR: Grandmother is in the process of dying, while dad and uncle talk about bicycles and then leave.
For context: I live 500 km from my family. My brother and I (both mid 30s) grew up in dysfunction: mom and dad divorced, dad and his new gf (mom’s former best friend) alcoholics & very negative people. Uncles and aunts totally disinterested/disconnected on both sides. Maternal grandparents loving, paternal grandparents somewhat distant, because dad never fostered a relationship between us and them and first thing out of his mouth when visiting was always: “We’ll be leaving in a few minutes.” I don't know why my dad's relationship with them was like that (tense and distant). (He didn’t and still doesn’t have a good relationship with anyone though. He always talks shit about people, about his former gf (died 2 years ago), about my mom, anyone. So now, he has no one and is all alone. My brother sees my dad out of duty about once every 2 weeks as they all live in the same city.) Dad and uncle visited grandmother every week at the nursing home. I left a lot out obviously, but that’s the family situation in a nutshell.
My paternal grandmother and last surviving grandparent died on Sunday. The nursing home she lived at called my dad and his brother in the morning, saying that today (Sunday) would be the day and they should come over and say their goodbyes. My brother, dad, uncle and aunt (uncle’s wife) go over. Grandmother is lying in bed, still breathing, but it’s apparent she will die. She turned 99 a week before. My brother sits down at her bedside, holding her hand. My dad and uncle stand at the back of the room and talk about bicycles and lunch. Then dad, uncle and aunt leave while dad and uncle are telling my brother he should leave too. They wanted to check on my grandmother again later, letting her die alone. My brother stayed with my grandmother, held her hand. He was with her when she died 2-3 hours later. Called me crying in between.
I’m so extremely disappointed and angry. Disappointed in my dad for being the way he always was and not caring about his mother, and also for leaving my brother on his own to navigate that whole situation and comforting my grandmother alone. My dad couldn’t even sit down, shut up and support his son in this (let alone be there for his mother) for a few hours. Disappointed in my uncle for doing the same. My aunt who I thought of so highly left with them. Before retirement she was an elementary school teacher, I played in her garden when I was little when I stayed with them, she read to me (something my parents never did) and painted with me. And she left too. I got all this info from my brother, who is very honest and stoic about the whole ordeal. He knows he did the right thing and is disappointed but not surprised about how my uncle and dad behaved.
I sent my dad a voice message yesterday telling him how disappointed and angry I am. I didn’t cuss or got loud, but it was obvious that I was very angry and was trying to hold it together (that’s why I didn’t call, I still don’t trust myself to not lose it during a call). I told my aunt via text what I think about all of them leaving, again: no cussing.
I plan on attending the funeral, be nice but distant to dad & co. and then fly back home. What they did is unforgivable to me. I'd sit by a stranger for a few hours to make sure they don't die alone, I'd even sit down at their bedside now even though they did what they did. I just don't get it.
I cried so many times on Sunday and yesterday and am barely holding it together at work today. This whole situation opened so many old wounds I thought I dealt with in therapy. How do you overcome years of disappointment flooding over you? I know I will get through this, but man do I wish things were different.

2023.05.30 16:16 Necessary-Row965 I want to break NC, here’s my BU story
Here is some context. We broke up about a little less than a month ago and I honestly don’t know who broke up with who. He started acting weird for a little bit and I was away from home so I texted him why he was acting so weird he said we could talk about it when you get home and I kind of got upset which was dramatic of me and I said just text it to me or don’t talk to me at all and I blocked him on social media and messages the unlocked him afterwards. knowing that I am a little dramatic for doing so. I also gave him all his stuff back that was at my house, and I gave him even gifts that he gave to me. It know again super dramatic.
Come to realize after unblocking him he had me blocked too. I then went to messages and realize I was blocked on there too trying to contact him so I ended up emailing him to unblock my number so we can talk. I went away for another weekend because I do competitions and we still haven’t talked I said let’s FaceTime and he said the reason why he was acting weird is because we weren’t spending enough time together which doesn’t make any sense to me because when he started acting weird, he would not want to do things together. He wouldn’t want to come over my house and he didn’t even text ,Good morning, Good night or even say, I love you. He also did not want to sleep over my house and would just leave in the middle of the night. Which I thought was so weird.
After bickering a while on text I said we can be done since you want to act like a child not really meaning it. I feel like girls say those things just out of anger and it was my first time actual saying that throughout our 4 years relationship. Am I wrong for saying that but after saying that he didn’t even put up a fight, he was just OK with it and I sent multiple paragraphs saying goodbye saying I don’t want this saying I love you and he just responded like nothing no reaction no I love you back or let’s fight for us. This was our first actual fight. I hate myself because I still love him.
I know we are both in the wrong but I feel like he doesn’t even care. After sending those text messages saying that I don’t want this and that I love you and I want you back I said let’s meet up to talk multiple times and he said there’s nothing to talk about. I don’t understand how there’s nothing to talk about after texting him over the course of three days and no response. I just realized I was ghosted and stop texting. That was May 17.
My birthday was May 20 and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I went to text him and the messages were green so I assumed I was blocked again. So I emailed him one last time on the 21st saying I need to talk to somebody and that I still love him and I want to be friends. He actually responded and said that we should probably not be friends until a while. He also said happy birthday and congratulations on graduating because I graduated on the 23rd, which was another horrible day by the way.
We were together for four years we were teens. I was 18 when we started dating he was my first love, so I don’t know how to cope. I’ve been really suicidal, which is nothing new for me because I do suffer from depression and bipolar disorder, but the feeling now is so much more intense. He was there for me for my first attempt too so he saw what I went through and he just left me, I hate him for it. Some part of me still wants to get back together and I still have hope. Should I break nc.

2023.05.30 15:32 DriftingAwayToSay My sister and her partner have lost the opportunity of renting a new property after their landlord provided false information to the letting company. Letting company are refusing to return holding deposit. Is there anything she can do to take action against either of them?
As the title says.
My sister and her partner are looking to move from the home they've rented for five years. They've been good tenants and have had no problems. The housing company took a £150 holding deposit on a property they were interested in. The company then contacted the landlord for a reference. The landlord has said that the property has been vacant for months. A lie that they can prove with rental payment receipts. He then said that he would consider renting to the man who previously lived there as the last resident. My sister and her partner are both women. No man has ever lived with them. He also said that they've been consistently late with their rent. The only time they were late was a single month where they had to help pay for a funeral. It was agreed they'd make the rent up on their next payment, which they did and they have message exchanges with the landlord to prove this. The letting company of the property they wanted to move to have now said that because they lied, which they haven't, they won't refund the holding deposit. The landlord is currently on holiday and is unreachable. Is they anything they can do to take action against the landlord and the letting agency? Thank you.

2023.05.30 15:12 Powerful-Courage199 I found out that my parents never completed probate after my grandmother died and have been living in the house my dad was set to inherit for the last 10 years. What do we need to do?
I want to help them out but I don't know where to start. 10 years ago my grandmother died very suddenly. My father is an only child, my grandfather had passed away 5 years prior, and the only people named in the will were my dad, me, and my brother. I was away at uni when it happened so I wasn't around to help them deal with everything after the funeral. All I knew was that I was left some of my grandmothers jewellery in the will, which I was given, and that her house, which was fully paid for, was left to my dad. About six months after her death, my parents moved out of their rented home and into her house and that was that. I know for certain that the house/the estate overall isn't, and has never been worth enough to pay inheritance tax. A better property in the street is currently on the market for £130,000. But I just assumed they had sorted everything legally and that was the end of it.
Fast forward to now. I've only just found out about this as I've moved back in with my parents and through casual conversation, the mention of my dad's will came up and they admitted that the house isn't actually in his name as they never completed probate. They have told me that they've never had any sort of legal letters or notices, no one has ever questioned anything regarding the house. They've been living in the house, paying council tax, bills, doing maintenance, all of that. I'm trying not to be angry with them as I can understand it must have been so overwhelming at the time, and then the problem must have always seemed too big to deal with. But like I said, I don't know where to start or how to help them. How bad is this situation?
Edit: we're in England.
