2023.05.31 00:45 Weary_Dragonfruit559 Chang Thai owner threatens locals with decapitation.
| My partner, (34F) and I (33M) recently had a very odd interaction with one of the owners of Chang Thai Durango, and we need the Reddit HiveMinds help fighting the good fight. Alright this is a wild one so buckle up! So, back in early April we ordered some takeout from Chang Thai. My GF went into the restaurant to pick up our order, and noticed a book prominently displayed on the bar. Titled, “Cause unknown” (not ‘unknown cause’). The book discusses a very unfortunate reality for many children who died during the years 2020 &2021. It pushes a Covid-denying narrative, disguising pages of photographs of deceased children and charts of “information” as real facts. Most horrifically, the author knowingly published these photos without the consent of the families of those that are in it. Disturbed by this my partner left a short 3 star google review that evening. It mentions how we really enjoy the food, but thought that displaying the book was disrespectful, perceived as a political statement, and best left out of the food service industry. After about an hour she deleted the review, feeling bad for being negative online, and for for continuing to bring politics into it. Just like restaurants, reviews should be about good food and good service. It was taken down that very same evening. Fast forward to end of May, we order takeout from chang Thai, regrettably. I say regrettably, because we really didn’t want to support the owners based on their, um, views, but the food really is good, and options in town are limited, and expensive, and so on and so forth. We get a text saying the order was complete and we could pick up at any time. This time I go in to collect our order. I’m greeted by a nice kid at the register, who asks for the name on my order. I give it to him, and he says the order has been cancelled and there’s no food. I ask why when the young female server lets me know that I (she’s assuming I am my GF) am “permanently banned” from Chang Thai, and I was asked to leave the property. In shock I asked her to repeat what she had just said, obviously getting the attention of some of the diners. She reiterated that I was trespassing, and that I was permanently banned for leaving a bad review. I asked if I could speak to the owner for some clarification, and she said he wasn’t available, but he couldn’t understand why we would want to eat their food, after leaving a less than stellar review. I politely walked way, and laughed out loud as soon as I got outside. My initial thoughts were mild embarrassment, but also feeling horrible for the cashier and server for having to endure that for a man who couldn’t do it himself, awkward situation for the diners, all around bad vibes. We got home, a few minutes later, a bit hangry, and full of spite. So we turned to the internet! The results are the review and owners response posted in the photographs. The owner is clearly unhinged. He crosses a line and makes physical threats, while choosing his words carefully. He uses her full name, which has been [redacted] as best we can to help maintain some privacy. He has clearly crossed a line, and just might be the person who has an undiagnosed psychosis. Please enjoy plenty of other Chang Thai 1star reviews if you’re ever in need of entertainment. My partner recognizes the mistakes she made antagonizing, and owns her hangry-ness. It all feels a bit childish up until the threatening verbiage comes into play from the male owner. Not cool! Since the Thai Nazi says “NO THAI FOOD FOOD YOU!” I guess we just have to enjoy our one night a weeks worth of takeout from the best restaurant in town. Taco Bell. TLDR; got kicked out of Chang Thai permanently for leaving a bad review. Left additional review, and owner has completely unhinged response. submitted by Weary_Dragonfruit559 to Durango [link] [comments] |

2023.05.30 23:45 AccomplishedClue166 Got my tickets for the home opener. First time in Pittsburgh stayingfor the weekend, what's the parking like, and food questions.
(On mobile sorry if format sucks)
I see they got the gold lot and green lot next to the stadium, what's the price like on avg for gameday(and is that where the tailgating spot is), or just better to bus/shuttle or ferry in?
Showing up Friday and staying till monday. Thinking about booking over in north Oakland area as its closer to a few places I wanted to check out, and still looks close enough to downtown to check out some different restaurants.
On that note besides Primanti Bros and Peppi's already on my list, what are some places yall would recommend, I'm not picky I like most everything.
Stuff that looked good on Google
Proper brick oven, wood fire ovens don't normally disappoint.
Pasha Cafe, TripAdvisor says its the #1 restaurant in all of Pittsburgh.
Gaucho Parrilla Argentina, honestly the pictures just look so good and nice portions.
So many good looking Italian restaurants, could probably spend the whole weekend trying different ones. So definitely need some suggestions there, I'm a portions and flavor kind of guy, don't need over the top fancy presentation and all that(but if the foods good fuck it)
And I'm basically from a corn field in ohio so I don't get to try very many ethnic restaurants (we got some decent Mexican but that's about the end of it) so suggestions for like Indian/Thai/Chinese/Mexican/Greek/whatever you got that's good
Burgatory also looked like a good spot
And finally a good seafood spot, and top picks for a steakhouse
Probably more then I'll get to in 4 days but I'm gonna try lol.

2023.05.30 23:14 KrunchManGuy Just hit play for the first time (YIPEEE) but then stalled out, what can be done to this deck to make it better?
2023.05.30 23:08 Ok-Middle8213 My boyfriend [34yo] lied to me [33yo] about an entire trip to Cancun.
So I had a trip planned to Miami to celebrate one of my college friend's bachelor party that my boyfriend knew about this past weekend. He asked when was I leaving and I told him last Wednesday. He ended up booking a trip to "California" on the same day and we were to get back on the same day, which was this past Sunday. He has a residence in California and Texas, so he has clothes, shoes, everything he needs already there. So red flag #1 for me was when I saw him pack a huge suitcase. I looked and wondered why would he do that, but didn't think anything of it. He was also talking to himself as he was packing saying that he was going to take some shorts to Cali (probably doing this to cover himself on why he's packing heavy; he NEVER packs heavy for trips to Cali). He landed about 10 hours before I did. I video called him once he landed and I could see he was at the airport. So I ask him was he going to have a friend pick him up or a Lyft. He said he was going to have his homeboy pick him up. I was like alright. After I landed in Miami that night, I let him know I made it. I tried to video call him on Google Meet (I'm an iPhone user and he's an Android user) he did not answer and it was about 12...1am in the morning, meaning it would've been 9...10pm Cali time. I receive a notification about 30 mins after I called him from Google Meet stating if I wanted to call him back again. Now in the past, he has told me that when you receive that notification, that means that you looked at the missed call. So at this point, I'm like he saw me call. Moving along, he calls me back around 3...4am, which is about 3 hours behind for Cali. He says I'm lucky he had to get up to pee while he was sleep (he did not video call me back, he called regular) and we talked for a few. I knew something was off that first night. So over the next few days, things didn't seem or feel right. I would call. He wouldn't answer, he'd call me back a few hours later or act like he never got my call. He would text, instead of calling me back. Every time he would video call, it was either in a bathroom, which didn't look like his bathroom in Cali or outside. Which outside didn't even seem right because he has a townhome. If he was sitting in the front of the townhome like he said he was, I would've been able to see it from the back, but I could see nothing. It was pitch black...and it was 9pm EST my time and 6PM his time, meaning it was still sunny in Cali! And earlier this day, he sent me screenshots of his phone screen trying to show me that he was having issues calling me. I looked at his time and it was only an hour behind me, meaning he had to have been somewhere in CST. I asked him about it and he had nerve to say that his phone was acting up and it didn't update when he landed in Cali. (LIE) I mentioned about it being pitch black at 6pm in Cali and he had nerve to say that it gets dark around that time. I knew that was a lie because I've been to Cali several times and it was always still light out and I also texted my friend that lives in Cali and he also confirmed it was still sunny. So I mentioned all of this to him and he had nerve to try and get mad at me for accusing him of lying, knowing darn well he was lying. He lied about him riding his bike (he has a motorcycle, car, and truck out in Cali) to some lounge he went to in Hollywood. He stayed out late, called me the next morning and was like let me get a little bit more sleep and I'll call you back when I wake up. He called back an hour later and said he was at a restaurant in Hollywood. He gave me the name of it, I googled it. Now he lives in Anaheim...that's an hour drive. So you mean to tell me he went back to sleep and was able to get up, get ready to drive back out to Hollywood to go to a restaurant? I knew that was a lie. He called me while he was at the restaurant and was sounding so happy and cheery. He said he'd call me back. I knew something was up so I called him back like 10 minutes later just to see if he would answer because why wouldn't you if you're at a restaurant by yourself. Do ya'll know he didn't answer the first time, so I called back a second time he answered and his tone was so different and he was talking so slow and short. That let me know that he was with someone because why were you so happy a second ago before you got to your table? Some other stuff happened, but fast forward to Sunday. I asked him what airport he was flying out of and he said LAX and he was flying with Frontier (LAX doesn't even have Frontier). He also gave me the time he was leaving which was 3:42pm. Now we both were supposed to land at 6...7pm in Texas. If he's leaving LA at 3:42pm, that's a 3 hour flight, then you have to add 2 more hours because of the time change. I looked up all flights that would be landing in Texas and none from Cali, but San Diego was on there. And one from Cancun. I found all of his flight information. So we both land in Texas. He ended up still being on the plane and he had nerve to say that he had to go through customs. I asked why, he said he didn't know, they're doing some weird inspection. I could not believe my eyes at all of the lies I was reading. So I confront him about it once he comes out of the International Arrival section at the airport and he has nothing to say. He proceeds to give me some bs story about how no one was supposed to know he was there and he was there on business for his family...blah blah. We don't follow each other on social media, but I could see that he posted all weekend long on Snapchat. So if people weren't supposed to know you were there, why are there posts at all? He sent me 2 videos of him at a lounge and I was able to figure out in 5 minutes what bar it was! I also found his resort receipt and it had that 2 guests were staying there. He also did a boat tour and took a picture. I asked about the 2 guests and he was like it always say 2 guests when you book somewhere, man please. I have always changed mine to 1 when I book online. And most times we were on the phone during the trip, it seemed as if he would always have to go outside or be in the bathroom. I also asked him to see his snaps, but he wouldn't show me anything, which shows that clearly there will be incriminating evidence on there.
TL; DR I've never been lied to like this before. I won't say this is his first time where his story doesn't add up, but he went out of his way to lie to me for almost a week. And then get mad at me for calling him out. I'm extremely hurt and believe its time I move on. I can't trust him at all. If he lied about this, what else has he done and what else will he lie about in the future.

A selection of items “on special” this week in Coles and Woolworths that may be of interest to some keto followers. Most are processed so not really suitable for “clean keto”.

2023.05.30 21:54 VarsityPhysicist Why are grocery store carrots so shitty?
If you go to any grocery store, all the carrots are super thin and if you need a bunch of carrots for something, you need to peel a lot
If you go to Tan A, their carrots are like 3-4 times the width of regular grocery store carrots. Why is this?
I used to work in a local Thai restaurant and had gotten used to prepping those, and it always annoyed me that I would have to prep so much more for carrots from grocery stores that now I stop by Tan A when I need them for a recipe.

Headlines transcript:
Waltham resident Shelson Jules passed away on Monday 5/22, apparently from a gunshot that occurred about 1:30am near Lyman St. and Faneuil St. According to a gofundme set up to support his family, Shelson was also known as JJ and was a 22 year-old alum of Waltham High School. Waltham Police and the district attorney are investigating the shooting and so far no additional details have been made public.
This weekend is the first weekend a portion of Moody St. is closed to cars this year under the new "hybrid" plan that allows for outdoor dining but with more restrictions than in past years. Moody St. from High St. to Pine St. will be closed to cars Thursday evening through Sunday, as well as some holiday Mondays , from now through September 25. According to a WCAC article, business owners have mixed feelings about the new arrangement but 12 restaurants as well as the Game Underground have applied to use outdoor space.
A few more prospective candidates have pulled papers for this year's Waltham election. They include one more person who's been part of our Channel 781 News team-- Chris Hammer, who has helped us with video production, plans to challenge Councilor Harris in Ward 8. In addition Tammy Wong-Bigelow is the first challenger to pull papers for the School Committee race, Waltham Police Officer Paul Tracey has pulled papers for Ward 3, and elementary principal Stephen Duffy plans to run at-large.
Waltham Pride is happening next Saturday, June 3 on the Waltham Common. This is the third time in Waltham's history that we've had our own Pride event, and the second year on the Common. Some of last year's popular performers will be returning including Missy Steak, Evan Greer, Toast, Katie Gullotti, Rose Bello, and Zumba with Jen, along with a new drag performer Iris Laveau. Speakers will include community members from the middle school, high school, Brandeis, a local Church, and Waltham's recently formed Trans Alliance. That's 11-4 on Saturday and if you'd like to help out, there's still time to sign up as a volunteer. We'll have Nick Hammond and Amanda Kennedy on our debrief show to talk more about th event.
In this week's city council meeting, Councilors Bradley-MacArthur, Paz, and Darcy introduces a resolution recognizing Pride month and calling for a Pride flag to fly on the Common. The council voted to approve that without committee reference.
Also in this week's meeting Councilor Paz re-submitted the housing rights notification ordinance, and the council set a date for a citizen input hearing to take place Wednesday 6/21 at 6:30pm at Government Center. That ordinance was originally proposed by Watch CDC and would require landlords to give tenants in danger of eviction information about their rights. The new version Paz submitted includes language that also protects homeowners in danger of foreclosure.
Also in recent meetings, the city council shot down a proposal to make Waltham's building codes more energy efficient. The state sets standard that require new buildings or renovations to meet a certain level of energy efficiency, but municipalities can choose to adopt "stretch codes" that require a higher standard, which Waltham has done in the past. Councilor Bradley-MacArthur submitted a resolution to adopt the latest stretch codes, which was discussed at the Public Works & Public Safety Committee on 5/15. At that meeting Councilor LaFauci argued that the standards were too difficult to meet and would cost the city money by deterring people from renovating their homes. He said that "fossil fuels are not going away" and argued that it doesn't make sense for Waltham to take steps to address climate change if not all states and countries are doing it. The committee recommended the council file the resolution with prejudice, meaning they will not take action on it and no one can submit a similar resolution for at least a year. In the following meeting the council voted to do just that despite an effort by Councilor Bradley-MacArthur to send it back to committee.
Also at this meeting neighbors showed up to oppose a proposed lodging house on Robbins street that would provide shared bedrooms for about 20 people in recovery from addictions. That was sent to committee and we'll talk about that more on our debrief show.
A proposed solar plant in Lexington near the Cambridge Reservoir and the Waltham line was approved by the Lexington Planning Board on 5/17. The City of Waltham previously went to court to prevent developers from building an access road to the plant through a Waltham neighborhood, but lost. More recently Waltham neighbors organized to pressure the Lexington government not to approve the project. At the recent council meeting Councilor Darcy requested certain city department heads come to the next meeting to discuss.
There's no city council meeting this week but committee meetings will return June 5.

2023.05.30 21:15 Shrek_2_Soundtrack France/Italy GF Trip Summary
Hey everyone!
This sub was a great resource for preparing for my big Euro trip, so I wanted to drop this post as a round up for great gluten free places I visited!
PARIS Patisseries: Copains - fully GF bakery, amazing selection here and super friendly staff, everything I had here was delicious (and I tried way too much)
NoGlu - while my least favorite of the bakeries, NoGlu offers lunch as well, so getting a traditional ham and emmental sandwich on their baguette was a great treat. As far as their straight up baked goods though, they were noticeably GF as compared to others in town
Le Pont Traverse - this little coffee shop is operated by NoGlu and serves baked goods from their bakery. It was super close to my hotel, so we started pretty much every day here. The smoked salmon bagel was especially good
Chambelland - while it was a close race with Copains, this was my favorite of the bakeries. I legitimately couldn't tell their eclair was gluten free
Dinners: Brasserie Les Deux Palais - this is probably the only really "tourist trap" place we went, but we were hoping to walk along the Seine around sunset one night, and this brasserie by Sainte Chapelle was just the right location. It's definitely overpriced, but if you're looking for the traditional tourist brasserie experience while gluten free, this is a reliable stop
Le P'Tit Troquet - traditional French cooking, small restaurant with an even smaller menu, but gf adjustments available for most menu items and friendly about making the changes needed
Le Saotico - this little bistro was packed with locals when we arrived, which is always a good sign. The owners are a couple and the wife has Celiac, so she is quick to assure you that you are in good hands. They make some amazing duck and had great GF dessert options
Boutary - shout out
u/MagneticPerry for this recommendation because this was THE BEST MEAL of our whole trip. A caviar-centric tasting menu, tailored around my GF request, with some of the most delightful waitstaff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. A true 10 out of 10 experience
NICE Taverne Messena - this place was a godsend when we arrived to Nice at 11pm one night. They stay open until 1 am and have a special menu labelled with allergens
Pop-O-Thyme - we ate lunch twice at this little crepe spot, traditional GF buckwheat crepes can be made with almost any of their fillings, and the GF crepes are made in a separate area than the others
La Rotonde - this is the mid-budget option for dining at the historic Le Negresco resort in Nice, with the Prix Fixe menu coming in around 65 euros a person. Your GF options are a little limited on the prix fixe menu, but everything I had was delicious, and they brought out warm GF rolls that were amazing. Dinner here also gets you access to the historic hotel, which is normally reserved for guests, so make sure to check out the incredible bar as well
GiGi Tavola - Someone told us the GF pizza at GiGi Tavola rivaled any GF pizza in Italy, which I was very skeptical of, but after having spent a week in Italy I have to agree. This is the best GF crust I have ever had. Make sure to make a reservation here, and if you're a craft cocktail person, ask about the speakeasy when you pay the check
At this point in my trip, we crossed over into Italy, and here I am happy to confirm everything you've heard about being gluten free in Italy is 100% true. People are super friendly and super knowledgable, almost every restaurant has their allergen info handy, and the AIC (Italian Celiac Association) awards a seal of approval to restaurants that can the facilities and know-how to assure food safety for people with Celiac. GENOA I Tre Merli - we had a stopover night in Genoa and wanted some seafood. I Tre Merli is AIC certified and sits out on the port, so we figured it was a good pick. All the seafood was fresh and delicious, and they offer several gluten free pasta options to accompany any of their sauces. I had some incredible GF seafood gnocchi here
McDonalds - yep, I tried the Italian GF burger. It is exactly what you expect: a frozen double cheeseburger that's been microwaved to order and served to you still sealed in plastic. But it's safe, convenient, and a Scharr bun is gonna be delicious no matter what. It makes me so mad no one in the States can offer something that is this simultaneously convenient and safe.
FLORENCE Hostaria Il Desco - another AIC certified spot, this one offering more upscale pastas. We got truffle bruschetta on GF bread and chinghiale pasta (wild boar, a local delicacy). This place was a healthy mix of locals and tourists, which for Florence is saying a lot, as it was flooded with American college kids the whole time we were there
Sgrano - a very popular lunch spot in Florence serves giant sandwiches prepared inside an entire loaf of focaccia, and Sgrano is directly across the street offering a GF version. These sandwiches are gigantic and filled with incredible Italian meats and cheeses. I highly recommend you split a sandwich, I had one to myself at lunch and couldn't eat for the rest of the day
Cafe Del Teatro Niccolini - this cafe offers several different gluten free croissants, store and prepared separately in the back, and is a convenient grab-and-go espresso and a pastry spot
Grom - no matter where you go in Italy you'll probably find Grom gelato. They started as a dedicated GF gelateria and got big enough to be bought out by Unilever, so they are all over the place now. While many gelaterias in Italy are knowledgable enough to be very safe about scooping your GF order, it's nice to have dedicated GF flavors and cones at places like Grom
ROME Taliani Pastries Cafe - I had read this place wasn't fully GF before going, so I was expecting a limited GF selection, but they actually have much more GF options than non-GF. The pastries were huge and delicious and reasonably priced, the staff even threw in some little tarts for free since they were close to closing.
Pizza in Trevi - at just a few steps away from the Trevi fountain, this place is filled with tourists, but it's AIC certified and has a unique buckwheat GF pizza crust that gives it a great flavor. Despite the crowds rushing in and out, they give gluten free diners a separate placemat and bring all the gf food out on separate dishes to insure safety
Mercato Hostaria - after sitting down here and opening the menu I realized this must be the more upscale sister restaurant to Pizza in Trevi, although the surroundings here are completely different. Instead of the cramped crowds of Trevi, this restaurants sits out on a quiet piazza, but they follow the same AIC safety protocols. All their pasta sauces can be served on fresh in-house GF pasta, and everything we had here was delicious
Mama Eat Lab - there are several Mama Eat locations around Rome offering GF comfort foods (think a lot of breaded and deep-fried options), but Mama Eat Lab in Vatican City is a smaller, dedicated GF location. The pizza here was probably the least impressive of my trip, but the pasta is delicious, and they make these like breaded, deep-fried mashed potato logs that are incredible
I hope some of this was helpful for any of you planning travel, and for anyone out there with travel-anxiety due to our dietary needs, I just want to assure you that France and especially Italy are excellent places to be! I felt more safe there than many of the places I travel in the US.

2023.05.30 19:14 antalpoti How can I best prepare for a trip to the US from Europe?
I wanted to visit the US for a long, so we've decided with a friend to go if our country qualifies to the 2026 WC. But I have a lot of questions...
How much money would I need? We plan to stay there for about 2 weeks. It's highly unlikely our team would reach a knock-out round. So that makes 3 group stage matches plus visiting some places, roughly 2 weeks. Accomodation, food and drink, travels.
How expensive are average American hotels? And restaurants?
How hard it is to move between cities? If, for example, we have to travel from LA to Miami for a match.
What else should we pay attention to?
Edit: big thanks to all of you for all the valuable information shared, even if I didn't personally respond, I duly noted everything!
