So, here's the fourth chapter. Sorry for releasing it a bit late, I've had some pretty tough finals. The next chapter might be delayed as well but after that I should be able to get back to my normal schedule of once a week or possibly better. And thanks for the support on my last chapter, your upvotes and comments mean the world to me!
Big thanks to
u/Rand0mness4 for proofreading my chapter and to

Descriptions of desecrated bodies (just your ordinary sapient cattle farm) [first] [previous] [next (hopefully out in about a week)]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Memory transcription subject: Oscar Williams, UN Marine Date [standard human time]: December 3, 2136
With the hum of the cars’ engines tapering off, everything turned quiet, far too quiet. The only sound bar my own breathing was the wind making its way through cracks in the building’s metal shell. Gunfire should’ve been raining down on us by now. The building in front of was at least the size of a football field and going by the faint, but disgusting, smell of the poor victims, the place was packed. There was no way only the about two dozen scalies we eliminated worked here.
Where was the fight? Were all of them hiding inside? We couldn’t have gotten all of them before, right? Well, there’s only one way to find out where the fuckers were hiding. Richards lined us up next to the large pair of doors separating us from the farm and a soldier from another squad grabbed a handheld battering ram. I doubted the door would hold after just a few hits with a rock but speed was of the essence. The faster we cleared out the arxur infestation, the more people would survive. I wasn’t about to let anyone else die in that hell. My grip around my rifle tightened and time almost seemed to slow down when the first hit was winded up.
We were quietly signaled to step back from the door and with just one hit with the battering ram the lock was separated from the rest of the door. The force from the hit slammed the door open and we promptly stormed in through the opening. But no gunfire met us. The inside was just as deserted as the outside had been. We had entered what seemed to be some kind of warehouse, large crates strewn throughout the floor and deep freezers lining the walls. At that moment I desperately wished I was a mouth breather. The stench, that had previously been contained by the sheet metal walls, was now flooding into my nostrils. Manure, unwashed bodies, and rotten meat. I tried my best to focus on anything but the freezers but every single wall was covered with them. Wherever my eyes darted, more proof of the murders appeared. A dried splotch of blood, some tufts of fur, a bloody machete.
They took pride in it. Pride in this… They’re going to pay. We crept through the wide open space, making our way from cover to cover. The dirt floor muffled any sound our footsteps would’ve made and we were only exposed for brief moments. If any arxur caught us, we wouldn’t be caught like a deer in headlights. After one of our many rushes between covers, I ended up next to one of the many freezers.
Oh god. My poor nostrils. The smell had grown even stronger and when I glanced at the freezer I quickly realized why. It seemed to have lost power, going by the fact that it wasn't cold, and that the lid was ajar. The remains of a person, a person who had friends and family, were rotting away inside. My knuckles were turning white from how hard I gripped my rifle and my teeth felt like they were going to crack due to my jaw clenching so hard. I was going to repay them in kind. Those motherfuckers, wherever they were.
When I stood up, en route to the next cover, my eyes caught a glimpse of the inside of the freezer. Pieces of mangled body parts filled the bottom of the box and a swarm of insects swarmed around something in the middle and-
Retch Parts of yesterday’s meal filled my mouth when I realized what was hiding under the swarm. A severed venlil head with empty eye sockets stared back at me. Blood had dripped down from the sockets, painting long streaks of orange in the white fur. The head’s mouth was locked in an expression of terror and pain and the neck looked like it had been ripped off from the venlil’s body. Part of the spine hung limp beneath the neck and, knowing arxur, I doubted the venlil had been dead during the ripping.
As soon as I found out where they were- Where the hell were the arxur? Realization suddenly flashed through my mind. Of course those cowards had fled. Fled their just punishment that I had sworn to deliver. My grip around my rifle tightened when I thought about the fuckers running this farm. They’d almost certainly escape justice, and there was in all likelihood nothing I could do about it. If only I could convince Olivia to hunt them down like they deserved.
My train of thought was brought to an abrupt end when we reached the other side of the warehouse. The door on this wall was far smaller, clearly just used by personnel. And it didn’t even have a lock. Maybe they decided to take cover behind this smaller choke point. I immediately squashed the idea in my mind as soon as I thought of it. They weren’t disciplined enough to not rush us with nothing but their natural weaponry.
My theory was quickly being proven true when we rushed into the next room. There wasn’t a single arxur in sight, but the sheer amount of victims more than made up for their absence. We had emerged on some kind of raised walkways, overlooking cramped pits filled with aliens sleeping in the most abhorrent conditions. The air reeked of unwashed bodies, feces, and many other disgusting smells I didn’t even recognize. The victims in the pits looked even worse for wear than the rest of this dilapidated building. Several of the harchen in the closest pit were covered in deep gashes and some even missed entire body parts.
Torture, there was no other explanation. Those fucking crocs. As I looked around at the other pens, it was quickly made evident that the treatment of the harchen was more of a rule than an exception. Over in another pit, several krakotl had been completely plucked, and what I assumed to be words had been branded onto their backs. Despite my deep hatred for most of their governments, I couldn’t find it in myself to be mad at anyone here. They’d more than likely been captured long before they even knew earth was still inhabitable and even if they weren’t, they still didn’t deserve this torture.
This was so much worse than I thought. Of course it would be horrible but this, how- Nausea quickly filled my thoughts and before I could even bend over, today's lunch spilled out of my mouth, and I wasn’t alone. At least a third of my fellow soldiers had the same reaction as me.
Good to know I’m not the only empathetic person here. Maybe they’ll agree that the arxur deserve to be treated like their prey after this. Oh, what I would do if I caught any of them. “HELP!”
The krakotl’s hoarse scream sent a shiver down my spine. It sounded like they hadn’t used their voice for years. I hastily pulled up my bandana and checked that my visor blocked my entire face. I didn’t dare think about what would happen if they realized we were predators.
“P- P- Please help us…”
The screaming had quickly woken up the rest of the aliens who were looking at us with a mix of bewilderment, fear and hope. My eyes darted around the pens while my mind prayed that they wouldn’t land on anyone that recognized our ‘arboreal’ eyes. After what felt like the longest five seconds of my life, I finally allowed myself to breathe a sigh of relief. If no one had fainted yet, they probably didn’t know we were human.
“We’ve come to rescue you, you’re going to get out of here. Just stay calm.”
Richards immediately took command of the situation, preventing widespread panic from the aliens.
“T- T- Thank you… Is the f- f- federation winning?”
The brave krakotl who asked us for help clearly thought we were from the federation and I silently thanked god everyone else seemed to believe the same thing. If they didn’t there would be pandemonium. Those poor souls must’ve seen arxur bloodshed every single day. I could barely imagine how terrified they would be if our identity was revealed. In their eyes we would be nothing but another species of predators and this was the worst possible place to try convincing them we weren’t.
“We’re just going to make sure there are no arxur left in the building, then we’re getting you out of there. We’ll be back before you know it.”
Avoiding the question. I really hoped Richards didn’t tip off the aliens about us there. At least she didn’t deny that we were from the feds. As long as we got out of there as quickly as possible, everything would be fine.
“I- I- saw them leaving. They were a- a- angry, and before they l- l- left they- they…”
The krakotl lifted their wing and shakily pointed towards a dark corner of the room as their voice faltered. Some kind of poles with clumps in the middle filled the corner but any more detail was masked under the veil of darkness. Carefully avoiding looking at the flickering lamps filling the building with light, I turned on my night vision goggles and as soon as my brain registered what it was seeing, I wished that I had been born blind. The poles were wooden stakes and the clumps were the mutilated corpses of a dozen aliens. Deep gashes stretched across their abdomen and their intestines were pouring out of the holes. Not even their heads were spared. They were nigh unrecognizable from blunt force trauma and one of the victims still had the hammer buried in their face. Disgust and rage flared up within me, almost stronger than I’d ever felt before. I wanted to vomit and chop arxur into small pieces at the same time.
Why do they fucking exist? Why the fuck do I have to fucking see this. How can someone… do something like this? And why did we let them escape? Wait, the faster I clear this building, the faster we can hunt them down. “You’re safe now, we’re getting you off this planet. Squad, we’re make sure there are no arxur left on the premises.”
Sergeant Richards’ command immediately pushed me to act. While about half our our force moved to clear out the rest of the building, my squad rushed for the back door at the other end of the cattle pens. We quickly made our way outside into a large yard, the dirt ground stretching several dozen meters from the building before slowly morphing into a field. In the distance, several large piles of timber were piled high next to a large, deforested area. The only feasible place for the arxur to hide on this side of the compound was the shack that stood at the edge of the yard. In contrast to the concentration camp, this building actually looked relatively structurally sound. Thick concrete walls, a door made of something other than sheet metal, and a roof with only a few visible holes. That was incredibly impressive for an arxur.
Just gotta check this shack, then we can start chasing the fuckers. Following Richards’ directions, we quickly began making our way towards the building. Reminding myself there was no time to spare, I sprinted ahead of the others and squeezed through the slightly ajar door. A loud slam emanated from behind me as the door shut behind me and I emerged into something that almost looked like living quarters. Several bedrolls were laid out on the ground, piles of equipment were scattered across the floor, and a large scaly repti-
SHIT SHIT SHIT! They hadn’t left. Those fuckers just laid in ambush, waiting for me to let my guard down. Its hideous body sat on one of the bedrolls, radiating bloodlust. I could feel its eyes bore deep into my soul, sending an involuntary shudder down my spine. Every single part of it was tailor made to kill, and nothing else. It could easily rip off my limbs with its massive claws, and then chop them into tiny pieces with its razor sharp teeth if I was careless.
Can’t be careless then. That fucker isn’t going to walk out of here alive. If I’m going down, it’s going down with me. I instinctively threw myself to the ground, raising my rifle to take out my target. My rifle was aimed directly at the
unarmed creature’s head, through the
chain-link fence sectioning off the arxur from me. Just before I pulled the trigger, my brain connected the contradictory information, stopping me from firing from sheer bewilderment.
Why the fuck did that thing not have a weapon? And why were they in some kind of improvised prison? “Hey! Oscar, the door’s locked. What’s your status?”
David’s voice and a loud banging on the door I just passed through snapped me back to reality. I was locked away from my squad in a room full of arxur. The same species that fucking impailed a dozen people out there. And here they were, right in front of me, behind a chain-link fence. Red flashed before my eyes as I realized what was happening.
They were trying to fool us. And those morons thought I wouldn't notice. They put up that barbed wire, trying to exploit our empathy. We’d try to imprison them, and then they’d strike. And they would have succeeded, had I not been alone. I slowly stood back up, and shuffled backwards until I stood flush against some kind of railing. The multiple arxur that were hiding behind the chain-link looked at me with unreadable expressions but I could noticeably see their eyes widen as I raised my rifle.
Finally realizing the jig is up? They were going to pay for for the people they fucking impailed, for the venlil whose head they fucking ripped of, and for the fucking cradle. All I had to do was tell the white lie that they attacked me and open fire. Then my squad wouldn’t be murdered and justice would finally be served. The arxur remained quiet as mice as I prepared to enact justice, probably in shock from their stupid ploy being seen through. I was eternally thankful that they were so stupid. The anger that had filled my entire system slowly melted away, being replaced by satisfaction at their imminent demise. Right as I was about to press down on the trigger one of the arxur began speaking but as I looked for the culprit I saw that all their mouths were shut. The voice was high pitched, almost childlike, and it echoed from… below.
What the- “Hi, what are you? You look really cool!”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is Oscar being a bit delusional? Should he analyze the situation a bit more objectively? Possibly, but where's the fun in having completely sane characters.
Anyways, the two protagonists are about to meet. Will said meeting remain entirely civil or will Oscar "accidentally" drop a grenade into the pit? We'll find out next time.

Tennessee adds another blue-chipper with the commitment of
2024 4* RB Peyton Lewis. Lewis announced his commitment surrounded by Tennessee staff, current commits, and future Vols during the '865 Live' recruiting event in Knoxville over the weekend (last year was called RockyTopalooza). This event was jam packed with other blue chip recruits and included a scavenger hunt, a putt putt golf contest, and a talent show. The Salem, VA native gives Heupel's staff their TWELFTH commitment in the 2024 class choosing Tennessee over Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Lewis was offered by the Vols in February 2023 and "always had aspirations of playing at Tennessee" so the commitment came just a few short months afterwards.
Tennessee anchors itself inside the Top 10 at #8 sandwiched between Florida State (#9) and Penn State (#7). See the other commitments below:

2023.05.30 20:22 jimbobbypaul Ranking the Top 131 FBS Programs of the Last 40 Years: 87. Nevada
Main hub thread with the full 131 rankings The year was 1976. Nevada, coming off a 3-8 year in Division II, hired a little known assistant from UNLV to be their football coach. He had returned to his alma mater where he played QB just 8 years prior. Chris Ault. Ault oversaw 2 transitions: From Division II to Division 1-AA in 1978, then again to Division 1-A in 1992. Ault was a wild success, running his patented pistol offense, making the Division 1-AA playoffs 7 times in 14 years, with an overall record of 122-47-1. Their final year in 1-AA, 1991, they overcame a 35 point 2nd half deficit against Weber State to win 55-49. Backup QB Chris Vargas led the comeback, and would become known as “The Comeback Kid”. He also donated part of his lungs to his brother-in-law in 2000. Be like Chris Vargas.

Nevada’s been in the FBS since 1992, so 31 seasons played since 1983. They were previously in the FBS (Division 1) from 1946-50, but that doesn’t fall under the 40 year timeline here. In their 31 seasons, they’ve made 17 bowls, which is 55% of the time. 7 titles means they win their conference 23% of the time. 5 titles came under Ault, the College Football Hall of Famer and easily the greatest coach in school history. Top NFL players include QB Colin Kaepernick, WR Nate Burleson, and OT Joel Bitonio.
Top 5 Seasons
Worst Season: 2000 (2-10 overall, 1-7 WAC) New conference, new coach, new lows. Nevada moved from the Big West to the WAC with Chris Tormey, who previously went 32-23 at Idaho. There were early struggles, with a 7-36 loss to Oregon, 10-41 to #22 TCU, and 14-45 to Colorado State. They did get a 35-28 win over Wyoming. The season quickly got away from them though, after a 7-38 loss to rival UNLV. Cormey would go 0-4 against UNLV in his 4 years, which was inexcusable. Nevada got a late season win over Rice, but finished off with a brutal 3-38 performance vs Tulsa. Nevada finished last place in their new conference. Sophomore WR Nate Burleson was a breakout player though, with 921 receiving yards. Burleson went on to be an All-American in 2002, leading the nation in catches with 138, for 1629 yards and 12 TD. He was drafted in the 3rd round in 2003 and went on to have a solid NFL career and is an even better media personality than football player.
5. 1994 (9-2 overall, 5-1 Big West) Chris Ault was in his 18th season at the time, with 1st year offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino. The two made magic happen, ranking 3rd in the nation with 37.6 PPG. Nevada started 9-1, with the only loss to Boise State, who was in Division 1-AA at the time. Boise would join Division 1-A in 2 years, but in 1994, was a division below and went 13-2 and made the title game. Nevada had rolled through the rest of the Big West, mostly beating teams that finished with losing records, but did beat 6-5 Pacific 38-26. Heading into the final week, Nevada had already won a share of the Big West title, but faced rival UNLV, who was 5-4 (4-1 Big West) and looking to get a share themselves. In the most hyped game between the two ever, UNLV pulled off the upset, winning 32-27 in a game now known as the “Red Defection”, which I talked about in UNLV’s post. Nevada still finished the year 9-2, with a share of the Big West title. QB Mike Maxwell led the NCAA in passing TDs, throwing for 3537 yards 29 TD 15 INT. RB Marcellus Chrishon ran for 1000+ yards in just 9 games, and WR Alex Van Dyke, a future 2nd round pick, caught 98 balls for 1246 yards and 9 TD.
4. 2020 (7-2 overall, 6-2 Mountain West) Nevada was expected to be a solid team in 2020, returning talented young QB Carson Strong. Because of covid weirdness, their schedule was anything but regular, and ended up playing all 8 regular season games against Mountain West opponents. Because of this, there was little room for error. They did as well as they could, starting 4-0, set to face 3-1 San Diego State, who was the division favorite. There were no divisions this year because of covid, but SDSU was still a favorite to qualify for the title game. A 26-21 lead heading into the 4th for Nevada held for the final 15 minutes, and they improved to 5-0 with a conference championship appearance in sight. At 6-1, they’d unfortunately lose 20-30 to an upstart 5-0 San Jose State team that would go on to win the Mountain West. Nevada still made a bowl, beating 6-5 Tulane 38-27 to finish 7-2, and 34th in my rankings. QB Carson Strong won Mountain West OPOTY, completing 70% of passes for 2858 yards, 27 TD, and just 4 INT. Many were talking about him as a future 1st round pick heading into 2021. RB Toa Taua, brother of legendary Nevada RB Vai, had a solid year with 675 rushing yards in 8 games, earning 2nd Team All-MWC. Toa went on to have a consistent 5-year career in which he amassed 3997 rushing yards, 4th in school history only to his brother, Chris Lemon, and Colin Kaepernick. Strong formed a strong connection with WR Romeo Doubs, now on the Green Bay Packers, who had 1000+ receiving yards and 9 TD in just 9 games. Overall, 10 players made 1st/2nd team all-conference.
3. 1995 (9-3 overall, 7-0 Big West) This was right after the 1994 season, where Nevada went 9-2 but lost on the final day to rival UNLV, forced to share the conference title. They left no doubt in ‘95, outpacing UNLV 55-32 en route to a 7-0 Big West season and sole owners of the title. In week 3, 2-0 Nevada hosted Gary Pinkel’s Toledo, losing 35-49 in what previewed the bowl game later on. After then dropping a game to SDSU to fall to 2-2, Nevada averaged a whopping 48.4(!) PPG in their last 7 regular season games, going 7-0 with wins over 2nd placed Southwestern Louisiana and 3rd placed Utah State. That set up a rematch with Toledo in the bowl, who was now #25 and 9-0-1. In the first overtime game in college football history, Toledo won again, this time closer at 40-37. Gary Pinkel completed an undefeated season with the Rockets, while Nevada finished 9-3. The offensive numbers were again staggering, even better than 1994. Nevada ranked 3rd in the nation in PPG with 43.4. QB Mike Maxwell led the NCAA in passing yards with 3611 (in just 9 games!) and 33 TD to 17 INT. WR Alex Van Dyke had an unbelievable year, with 129 catches for 1854 yards and 16 TD. In just 11 games! If he played a 13 game season like teams do today, his stats would extrapolate to 152 catches for 2191 yards and 19 TD.
2. 1996 (9-3 overall, 4-1 Big West) As you can tell, Nevada was balling from 1994-96. New head coach Jeff Tisdale, a former All-American QB for Nevada in the 70’s, took over for Ault, who continued in his role as Athletic Director, which he had been in since 1986. There was no drop off offensively, averaging 42.9 PPG (2nd in the nation), but the defense gave up 8 less PPG, going from 31.2 allowed in 1995 → 23.8 in 1996. QBs John Dutton and Eric Bennett alternated throughout the year, coaches trying to decide who was the right fit to take over for Mike Maxwell. Both were solid, and combined for 3907 passing yards 34 TD 11 INT. Nevada started 1-2 with losses to Pac-10 opponents Oregon and Cal, but then started to wipe through the schedule. Nevada went 7-1 the rest of the way in the regular season, with 25+ point wins over UNLV, Boise State, North Texas, New Mexico State, Utah State, and Arkansas State. The only Big West loss was 15-24 to Idaho, who finished 3rd in the conference. Nevada tied with Utah State at 4-1, sharing the conference title, but got the better of them in a 54-27 win. An 18-15 win over 8-3 Ball State in the bowl clinched Nevada’s first ever bowl win, and they now have 5 more since. LB Mike Crawford nabbed the game-sealing interception, and was the game’s MVP, logging 14 tackles and a forced fumble to go with the INT.
1. 2010 (13-1 overall, 7-1 WAC) I said that Kansas might be the team with the most obvious “best” season, but Nevada’s up there too. This was a dream season, almost like a Hollywood script. Nevada was a very good team entering 2010, picked to finish 2nd in the WAC, but EVERYONE was picking Boise to win the conference. Not just the conference, but to possibly contend for a national title. That’s what the Broncos did, starting 10-0 and #3 in the nation, getting as high as #2 at one point. Back in Reno, Nevada expectedly started 2-0, setting up a Friday night game hosting Cal. I remember watching it, a Cal fan at the time, hoping the Bears would improve to 3-0, but Colin Kaepernick and RB Vai Taua ran all over our defense, posting 299 rushing yards between the two of them in a 52-31 win. A 27-13 win at BYU the next week put Nevada in the AP Top 25 at 4-0. They’d beat up on bottomfeeders UNLV and San Jose State before heading to Hawaii, but lose a trap game to the upstart Rainbow Warriors, who won 27-21 with almost no one watching the 11:30 PM EST start time game. Nevada kept their focus though, and won 2 more to get to 8-1 and back up to #21. A win over 6-2 Fresno State, a traditional WAC power, was huge, with the Wolfpack taking a 35-34 lead with 5 minutes remaining. After a 52-6 win over New Mexico State, the Wolfpack were 10-1, and #19 in the nation, having one of the best seasons in school history.
Then came the Boise State game. Nevada had finished 2nd in the WAC for 2 straight years, unable to get over the Bosie hump. Boise State was the class not just of the WAC, but of all the non-AQ schools in the BCS era. They were the team that finally had a chance to break not into just a BCS bowl, but the national title game. Nevada was the home team and wasn’t going to just lie down, but this Boise team was, at the time, the best non-Power 6 team we’d ever seen. Boise didn’t disappoint, galloping out to a 17-0 lead early. Taua cut it to a 10 point deficit in the 2nd quarter, but Boise RB Doug Martin immediately responded with a 51 yard TD run to send it into halftime at 24-7. With the offense stalling, Kaepernick finally broke off an 18 yard TD run on 3rd and 6 with 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter to make it 24-14. Following a defensive stop, Nevada got the ball back to start the 4th. Receiving an end-around lateral 12 yards behind the LOS, with 3 tacklers to beat, WR Rishard Matthews evaded them all and took it 44 yards to the house. 24-21. With 5 minutes to go, Nevada made it 24 all. Boise, who hadn’t scored all half, put the ball in Doug Martin’s hands and let him do the work, taking a screen pass 79 yards for the go-ahead TD. In response, Kaepernick drove the length of the field, 15 seconds to go…Touchdown, Nevada! With 13 seconds left! Will they go for 2…? No.
Boise State ball with 9 seconds to go, both teams preparing for OT. Kellen Moore throws up a PRAYER for Titus Young, nearly 60 yards in the air…and Young LAYS out for the catch, down to the Nevada 10. 1 second left, 26 yard FG, Boise with one of the best kickers in school history, game over. Except it wasn’t. Kyle Brotzman hit it wide right. OVERTIME. The stadium was shaking. 3rd & goal in overtime for Boise, incomplete. Brotzman comes back out, this time from 29. WIDE LEFT. As Joe Tessitore put it, “this is turning into a disaster”. On the other side, Nevada kicker Anthony Martinez lined up for a 34 yard FG for the biggest win in school history. Right down the middle. Nevada wins it 34-31 in OT, pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the 2010s and winning a share of the WAC title, against all odds. Nevada won their last regular season game against Louisiana Tech and the bowl against Boston College to finish 13-1 and #11 in the AP Poll.
The offense averaged 41.0 PPG while the defense gave up just 21.4. Kaepernick won WAC OPOTY, throwing for 3022 yards 21 TD 8 INT with 1206 rushing yards and 20 TD on 7.0 YPC. Taua was 1st Team All-WAC with 1610 rushing yards and 19 TD, finishing his career as Nevada’s all-time leading rusher with 4588 yards. DE Dontay Moch was in contention for WAC DPOTY, with 8.5 sacks and 13.5 TFL. Overall, this turned out to be a loaded Wolfpack team, with 9 players drafted over the next 3 years, including Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance.
5th Quarter
Do you remember that insane 2010 game vs Boise, and that Nevada team with Kaepernick/Taua? What do you think about Nevada in general, with the success they’ve had running the pistol and Chris Ault’s legacy?

2023.05.30 19:51 scarsellaj Tottenham Hotspur: Twenty-Three Years of Failure
February 2001: It’s a bright new era for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. After years of mediocrity and flirts with relegation in the 1990s, a new ownership group is taking over from that cheapskate Alan Sugar. Meet your new overlords in English National Investment Company and your new chairman, Daniel Levy! Its sure to be a great start of a beautiful journey!
May 2001: Finishing 12th is not what you would call ideal. No European football. Not to mention bowing out in the FA Cup Semis and League Cup third round. Enjoy this new manager in Glenn Hoddle.
2001-02 : Sol Campbell signed with our eternal rivals in Arsenal! Levy didn’t offer him a new contract? What?? Doesn’t he know those Gunner clowns can’t be taking our players like that? We also finish 9th but made the League Cup final. It helps having the return of our goal scoring phenom in Teddy Sheringham. Adding Gustavo Poyet helps too. Still no European football.
2002-03: The best way to fight back into the elite is to have more goal scorers right? Welcome Robbie Keane from Leeds United! A crafty piece of business on our end! Him and Sheringham power us to…10th place. The fuck? And third round exits in the Cups…
2003-2004: Glenn Hoddle is underachieving! Get rid of him. David Pleat can surely handle the task at hand. Nope, we finished 14th…and still no trophies. But hey check out our shiny new forward in Jermaine Dafoe.
May 2004: Sol Campbell becomes a key contributor to Arsenal’s Invincibles season and wins the Premier League title. Does it feel cold?
2004-2005: Here’s our new manager in Jacques Santini ~goes 5-4-5~ ok never mind. Here’s our REAL new manager in Martin Jol, much more quality. He’s got the gusto and know-how to guide us to 9th and no trophies. At least Jermaine Defoe was the club top goal scorer…and Ledley King is coming into his own.
May 2005: Our other eternal rivals Chelsea win their first Premier League thanks to that outlandish manager Jose Mourinho and oligarch Roman Abramovich. All they do is buy players whenever they please. Pfft, that won’t be sustainable, they’ll come back to Earth eventually.
2005-06: Martin Jol has been a massive improvement to our fortunes. No trophies yet but we’re back in Europe. It’s good to be back in the UEFA Cup, think of the tv revenue. 5th place is a nice finish. Robbie Keane and newcomer Mido carried us to this spot. We should be keep them around for a while. Bringing in experienced talent like Edgar Davids and this young defensive midfielder in Tom Huddlestone helps. And check out our new record signing in Jermaine Jenas.
2006-07: Michael Carrick is a great defensive midfielder but Manchester United want his services. Here, take him. Edgar Davids is also much too old to be playing Premier League football. Our loss is also our gain with 15 million quid in the books. Let's invest that into a brand-new world class striker in Dimitar Berbatov. And Carrick's replacement in Didier Zokora certainly helps us...but we finish 5th again. No tropies either...at least European football?
2007-08: Jermaine Dafoe and Mido are gone. We need to replace them. Darren Bent seems like a good idea. But who the hell is this young left-back named Gareth Bale? Why is he worth 14 million pounds? Whatever, we need depth, he probably won't be much. Snap up this Jonathan Woodgate guy, too, someone has to help Ledley King here!
Oct 25, 2007: So you sacked Martin Jol at halftime against Getafe because reasons? Maybe if you stopped selling all his good players the division wouldn't have started. The fans are not pleased about this at all. Smooth them over with Juande Ramos from Chelsea.
League Cup Final 2008: All this leads to an 11th place finish, but fear not - YOU WON THE LEAGUE CUP! The first trophy since 1999, a true triumph. Certainly Spurs can aim higher now right?
2008-09: Juande Ramos is a fraudulent piece of shite that doesn't deserve to work in North London. We've promptly canned him for the legend that is Harry Redknapp. Just look at him inspire us to...8th place. We made the League Cup Final broken glass window and we've lost to Manchester United. And sold them Berbatov because money. This is shit. Enjoy this new midfielder signing in Luka Modric. He'd only become one of the best players in the world, nothing too crazy. Oh and Robbie Keane is back. So is Jermaine Defoe! Yay?
2009-10: A full season of Redknapp ball has led to a glorious prize! 4TH PLACE! Tottenham Hotspur will be playing under the lights on Tuesday and Wednesday! Play the music....THE CHAMPPPIONS! All it cost was loaning out Keane, selling Bent, and bringing in Peter Crouch. What a team we have forming. This Aaron Lennon kid is turning into quite the player. Oh and that Gareth Bale kid we paid a premium for? Yea, he's playing left winger now.
2010-2011: Champions League football requires Champions League talent. Quickly, let's eye up cheap deals for Rafael van der Vaardt, Sandro, and William Gallas. The attacking front of Crouch, Bale, Defoe, van der Vaardt, and Roman Pavlyuchenko powered us to 5th. It’s been a tough test balancing these nights. But did you see our massive victories against both Milan teams? I think we'll be back here in no time. Is it really a bad season without winning any trophies?
2011-12: A critical season. Harry Redknapp's contract is set to expire and Daniel Levy hasn't really been known to give coaches pay raises unless they merit it. Unfortunately, Peter Crouch is too old to keep around. Off to Stoke City with you, lad, thanks for that night at the San Siro. Bringing Emmanuel Adebayor from the exile of Manchester City should be a like-for-like swap. It all powers us to finish 4th again! HUZZAH! Another season of Champions League revenues! But still no Cups to take home.
2012 CL Final: Unfortunately, Chelsea did something incredible and won the Champions League in the most chaotic final in recent memory. Thus, for finishing 4th, you get Europa League football...god I hate Chelsea.
2012-13: Gareth Bale is becoming an elite winger without elite help. We've also decided to do something ridiculously unpopular and sell Luka Modric to Real Madrid for huge money. van der Vaardt is also out the door to Hamburg. The revenue brings in Hugo Lloris, Mousa Dembele, Clint Dempsey, and Jan Vertonghen. Under the plucky Andre Villas-Boas we finish 5th and go back to Europa. But our Cup showing was even more abysmal this season. Gareth Bale potted 21 goals...oh god he's next to go isn't he?
2013-14: The worst day has come. Gareth Bale has been sold to Real Madrid. He's joining up with Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo. The money reinvested brings in Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, and the meme known as Roberto Saldado. Andre Villas-Boas' tenure was short-lived. Tim Sherwood is a former Spurs lad, surely he can lead us to greatness. If you call 6th place and no trophies greatness.
CL Final 2014: Luka Modric and Gareth Bale become key contributors to Real Madrid's Decima in the Champions League. Bale also scores one of the best goals of the campaign in the Copa Del Rey against Barcelona. The fans are pissed at Daniel Levy and ENIC.
2014-15: We've been knocking on the door of the elite English teams for a few seasons now. Time to put up or shut up. Tim Sherwood, you are not that guy pal. Mauricio Pochettino, welcome to Spurs. Here's the plucky academy kid in Harry Kane. Please get him firing, our striker woes are well-known. You want to sell Gylfi Sigurdsson and Sandro for this League One prospect in Dele Alli? Ok if you say so. Who the hell is Eric Dier and why do you want him? Culminating in a fifth place finish and League Cup final. Harry Kane scored 21 goals though...whoa.
2015-16: Defense needs an upgrade. Let's buy this experienced Belgian in Toby Alderwaiald. Him and Vertonghen played together before, surely it will work. We also need a left winger. How about Hueng-Min Son? He's been torching defenses for Leverkusen, he can surely do it here. The top teams are having a down season, now is the time to strike. We can smell the Premier League title in our grasp.
Final Matchday 2016: They finished third in a two-horse race after Leicester decided to have the greatest sports story ever play out in real life. It seems like a missed opportunity, but there is plenty to build on. Poch's team is coming together. Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are molding into elite fullbacks. The Belgians and Lloris are brick walls. Harry Kane is becoming a world-class striker. He even won the Golden Boot! They just need a little bit more to get over the trophy drought.
2016-17: Ok this is the year. We made it back to the Champions League, but this will be the last year at White Hart Lane. It's much too old for this modernizing football club. We need a really big stadium to bring in that sweet matchday revenue like our rivals. And I'm talking REALLY big, the best in all of England. It would be nice to fill it with some Champions League revenue and some silverware no? Well, seems like we finished 2nd and didn't win any Cups...AGAIN. But hey, Harry won the Golden Boot again! Dele Alli took serious strides in becoming a generational talent. Progress is progress amirite?
Final Matchday 2017: Chelsea win their 4th Premier League title since Abramovich took over. At least you finished above Arsenal again...that's a win isn't it?
2017-18: Kyle Walker has been sold to Manchester City because we like money over glory. Don't worry, we have a solid replacement with Kieran Trippier. We'll use the Walker money to bring a new defender in Davinson Sanchez from Ajax and right winger in Lucas Moura from PSG. Oh and for the hell of it, here's Serge Aurier from PSG too. Glorious depth. We still don't have a reliable backup striker, but how about a cheap deal for the aging legs of Fernando Llorente. He was good in a past life right?
Nov 1, 2017: By God, we've done it. We've slain the evil empire in Real Madrid. It's hard to believe a team of this size and caliber could scar the kings of Europe. Surely the only way is up from here.
March 2018: Nope, the knockout stages pit you up against a thunderous Juventus team that makes you their English bitch. Giorgio Chiellini goes on to make one of the most overused memes in all of football Twitter. "Iz di history of di Tottenham..."
Final Matchday 2018: Respectable 3rd place finish behind Manchester United lads. Too bad no trophies to go with it. Sigh... what else is new? We finished above Arsenal again...yay? Meanwhile, Kyle Walker is part of the Centurion Manchester City team...I need more liquor.
2018-19: Harry Kane is starting to get impatient. He needs to start seeing some silverware soon. Hueng-Min Son is emerging as a top forward in the league. Dele’s dropped off a bit but it’s just a blip, nothing to worry about. Jan and Toby are rock-solid at the back. We have a plucky solid squad, filled with some high-end talent but we didn't get any reinforcements in the summer...what the fuck? You do realize squads transition every season, ENIC? Where's Poch's reinforcements? Why did you sell Mousa Dembele mid-season, he was still useful! Oh dear god, what have they done? Oh that’s right…the new stadium. It’s still not done yet is it?
UCL QFs 2019: This is massive test. We managed to beat Barcelona in the group stage, and cake-walked through Dortmund in the Round of 16 but this is a new beast. We're up against the defending PL champs in Man City. Harry is hurt but we've got Sonny, Lucas, Chrisitan, Dele, and Fernando to make up for his goals. A huge pen save by Hugo on Aguero keeps us in the tie. Son puts us up 1-0 in the first leg. Going to the Etihad without Harry, it's a tight affair. Son and Sterling trading goals, Fernando kneeing in the go-ahead, Bernardo Silva pulling one back, 4-3 Man City, and seeing out the final whistle. Away goals take us over the line. Onto the Semis!
UCL SFs 2019: This Ajax team downed Real Madrid. They're gonna walk all over us. At least in the first leg. The second leg is a masterpiece. Lucas scored not one, not two, but THREE away goals to push us to glory! Gas up the bus boys, WE ARE GOING TO THE UCL FINAL!!!!
UCL Final 2019: What the actual fuck? How was that a handball on Moussa Sissoko??? IT HIT HIS BLOODY SHOULDER! You gifted this match to Liverpool, UEFA! (This is the moment that broke Tottenham Hotspur) And why the hell didn't Lucas start the game? After that fantastic hat trick? I don't care if Kane was fit to play, this is massive managerial blunder. Maybe this is the summer things start to change. All we got for this was a runner-up medal. At least we finished 4th in England. BUT STILL NO MOTHER FUCKING TROPHIES! writer proceeds to smash his laptop in the process
2019-20: The UCL Final should be a springboard for another potential title charge. Poch is calling out ownership for not wanting to give him signings. They only fumbled the Paulo Dybala signing, surely we can still trust Levy and ENIC right? Here's Giovani Lo Celso instead and Tanguy Ndombele to shore up the midfield. Here's our replacement for Danny Rose in Ryan Sessegnon. Unfortunately, Chrisitan Eriksen wants out and we let his contract run down. He leaves in January for basically nothing. Results are starting to flounder so Poch, pack your furniture and get out of our house. Meet our new manager: Jose Mourinho, the Special One. Just nobody tell Daniel he's been sacked infamously by both Chelsea and Manchester United for being a toxic presence. At least the new stadium is ope---ah fuck, it's COVID. An injury-plagued campaign culminates in a 6th place finish, but still no trophies. Another finish over those Gunners though! Why aren't you fans happy? We can't spend money, don't you see we didn't get any matchday revenue???
FA Cup Final 2020: Even though we finished above them, Arsenal take home an FA Cup with a squad arguably much less talented than Spurs. It was also against Chelsea...who finished above you. Can someone drive me to the nearest cliff please?
2020-21: A full season of Mourinho-ball. Tensions are starting to run high. Kane is pissed at the direction we're going. Jan Vertonghen and Kieran Trippier are gone. Dele Alli forgot how to play football under Jose. We need a new center-back...too goddam expensive. Let's convert Eric Dier to CB and have play back there, what's the worst that can happen? Fans aren't happy at all. I know the solution: you kids remember Uncle Gareth?? He's baaaaack! Sure, he's in his early 30s and a shell of himself but he's won 4 UCL titles and scored that fabulous bike kick in 2018. He's still class. Here’s a bunch of mid table players in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, and Joe Rodon to supplement the team.
March 2021: Europa League is quite winnable. Surely nothing bad will happen like you losing to a team who's manager is in prison for tax fraud. breaking glass sounds you fumbled a 2-0 agg lead to Dinamo Zagreb...who's manager was in prison for tax fraud. You're fucking pathetic you know that?
April 2021: Jose Mourinho is a dinosaur of English football. Look at him playing park the bus tactics while we can't defend score. Let's get rid of this cancer before it spreads. Who cares if it's six days before the League Cup Final against City? Why can't Ryan Mason see it out?
EFL Cup Final 2021: It's not a blowout loss, but it's clearly an overmatching. City run rampant on Spurs as they lift the trophy they basically own at this point. Fans are calling for Levy's head. In fact, they were calling for it as early as the FA Cup loss to Everton in the fourth round.
Final Matchday 2021: Jose refused to play Gareth Bale. Looking back that was a terrible decision. Bale and Kane power us to a 7th place finish. We finish above Arsenal again. It's a successful season in ENIC's checkbook. And there's still European football to play. Harry Kane wins another Golden Boot and the Golden Ball for most assists. We have to keep him around.
May 2021: Kieran Trippier and Christian Eriksen become key contributors to Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan's respective title wins. In other news, Juan Foyth wins the Europa League with Villarreal while on loan. Does that sound familiar?
CL Final 2021: Chelsea find another way to win another Champions League title, despite sacking a manger midway through the season and having misfiring forwards. And it was against Man City…who we beat every now and then.
2021-22: We need a director of football to help us match up to our rivals better. Fabio Paratici built Juventus in the most dominant club in Italy, surely he can replicate that in England. No we won't hire Paulo Fonseca and his 7 assistant coaches, way too much payroll. And no, you can't hire Gennaro Gattuso for his derogatory comments. Wait, where the hell is Harry Kane? Ahh I see he wants to be sold to Man City. HA! Doesn't he know he just signed an extension? Son has too, so if Harry wants to play hardball let him. Quickly, hire Nuno Espirito Santos as our fail-safe. He's not what we wanted but we fucked up so we're fucked now. Wait, how can we be so critical of ourselves? CHECK OUT THIS GLORIOUS STADIUM!!!!
Nov 2021: Nuno is terrible, he's lost 5 in a row. Who cares if we beat Man City on opening day? Get him out NOW! Get Antonio Conte in. It's another former Chelsea manager to restore our standing in the club.
Final Matchday 2022: HUZZAH! After a turbulent season, losing to wifi-password named clubs in the Conference League then getting kicked out of it for COVID reasons, Conte calling us out in the media multiple times, we galvanized ourselves to a 4th place finish. We're back, and it's thanks to the Juve rejects in Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, and Rodrigo Bentancur. Son won the Golden Boot, a true testament to his development at Spurs. Back on track. But still...no trophies. Another finish above Arsenal...they should just make a team award for that at this point.
2022-23: A full season of a happier Conte should lead us to silverware. Let’s not dawddle, start making signings. Richarlison always victimized us at Everton, let’s bring him to back up Kane. Yves Bissouma did the same at Brighton and we do need a batter box to box midfielder. Him too. Ivan Perisic on a free for Conte’s wingback. Surely our defense is fine in the hands of Romero, Dier, Clement Lenglet, and Ben Davies. And Djed Spence because reasons.
April 2023: It’s been a terrible season. From having our best start to a season since 1967 to bottling game after game after game. Tepid football, lack of inspiration. Despite small triumphs like winning the Champions League group stage and mugging Manchester City of points again, they have failed miserably again. Son’s form is gone. Richarlison doesn’t know how to score. The defense is wide open. It implodes after giving up 3 goals to a bottom table Southampton after being up 3-0. Conte is furious, criticizes ownership again, and is canned back to Italy. Fabio Paratici was also banned by FIFA for cooking Juve’s books. To make it worse, Arsenal was leading the top of the table and almost won the title. Thank the football gods for Man City and their oil money franchise. That means nothing as the season prolapses, we fall out of European contention, and finish 8th. No manager, no director football, toxic fanbase crying out for changes. I have now developed heavy drinking. "ZE DON'T WANT TO PLAY FOR SOMETHING IMPORTANT! 20 YEARS THERE IS THE OWNER AND NEVER WON SOMETHING!"
UEL Semi-Final 2023: Did I mention this gets worse because it does. A couple seasons back, Spurs swapped Erik Lamela and 25 million for promising Spanish youngster Bryan Gil from Sevilla. Gil was never favored by Nuno or Conte, with the Italian basically exiling him from the team unless he had no other choice but to play him. Gil would be loaned back to Sevilla where he assisted Erik Lamela's game-winning goal in stoppage time to book Sevilla a place in the Europa League final. I want to drink bleach...
Twenty-three years of failures and memes, Tottenham look like a lost club. All the shiny toys, but nothing to show for it. Champagne expectations with a beer budget. Does the ownership really value profit that much? Daniel Levy always insists his goal every season is to win a trophy. But how do you do that without attracting top talent? They squandered a window in 2019 and can’t remake the glory. They've made signing after signing that are inconsistent or not at the level to win trophies. It feels like they value cheap deals rather than actual talent. It's killing the club. Kane has been a legend at the club but he’s ready to move on. I don’t blame him, his career is incomplete with some hardware. But the future looks bleak. What will Spurs do next? Will they do a full rebuild and risk the possibility of no European football? Or will they try to win at least one trophy before Kane's contract is up?

(TSX: NCU) (OTC: NEVDF) (FSE: ZYTA) (“ Nevada Copper ” or the “ Company ”) is pleased to announce that it has completed its previously announced public offering of units of the Company (the “ Units ”), which included a partial exercise of the over-allotment option (the “ Over-Allotment Option ”), by a syndicate of underwriters that included Scotiabank, Jett Capital LLC, National Bank Financial, RBC Capital Markets, Research Capital Corporation, and Haywood Securities Inc. The Company issued an aggregate of 196,038,400 Units, including 22,333,400 Units pursuant to the Over-Allotment Option, at a price of C$0.27 per Unit, for aggregate gross proceeds of approximately C$52.9 million (the “ Offering ”). Each Unit consists of one common share of the Company (each a “ Common Share ”) and one-half of one Common Share purchase warrant (each full warrant, a “ Warrant ”, and collectively the “ Warrants ”). Each Warrant is exercisable for one Common Share (each a “ Warrant Share ”) at a price of C$0.34 per Warrant Share until September 30, 2024. The Company intends to use the net proceeds of the Offering and those contemplated under the financing package agreement (as discussed in the Company’s May 9, 2023 news release) to continue funding the restart and ramp-up of the Company’s Pumpkin Hollow underground mine (the “ Underground Mine ”) and for general corporate purposes, including working capital, with the goal of achieving nameplate production capacity of 5,000 tons per day by the end of 2023. Pala Investments Limited (“ Pala ”), the Company’s largest shareholder, purchased an aggregate of 108,442,714 Units under the Offering, representing aggregate gross proceeds of approximately C$29.3 million. In addition, Mercuria Energy Holdings (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (“ Mercuria ”), another significant shareholder of the Company, purchased 24,814,814 Units under the Offering, for an aggregate purchase of approximately C$6.7 million. After closing of the Offering, Pala’s ownership interest in the Company on a non-diluted basis has increased from approximately 43% to approximately 47% and Mercuria’s ownership interest in the Company on a non-diluted basis has decreased from approximately 24% to approximately 23% (inclusive of 46,000,000 Common Shares and 25,848,765 Common Shares acquired by Pala and Mercuria, respectively, upon exercise of a portion of their existing Common Share purchase warrants issued in connection with the Company’s October 2022 financing). As previously announced, Pala has agreed to exercise the balance of the Common Share purchase warrants issued in connection with the Company’s October 2022 financing subject to the expiry of a review period or clearance in respect of anticipated filings under the United States Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 (“ HSR Clearance ”) to permit Pala to exceed a majority ownership interest in the Company. The exercise of the foregoing Common Share purchase warrants by Pala, together with the prior Common Share purchase warrant exercise, will reduce approximately US$82 million of debt obligations owing by the Company to Pala. Upon receipt of HSR Clearance and the completion of the subsequent Common Share purchase warrant exercise, Pala’s ownership interest in the Company on a non-diluted basis is expected to increase to approximately 61.7%. The Company anticipates obtaining HSR Clearance in approximately 60 days. The Company has also drawn the remaining US$10 million of the US$25 million amount that was added to the Company’s senior credit facility with KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH, as tranche A-2, as part of the Company’s October 2022 financing. As previously announced, concurrent with closing of the Offering, Pala and Mercuria have entered into a deferred funding agreement in favour of the Company, pursuant to which Pala and Mercuria will provide up to US$15 million and US$10 million, respectively, subject to certain conditions, to be drawn pro rata by the Company, if required, until June 30, 2024. These funds, if required, will be advanced in exchange for Common Shares, convertible debt and/or non-convertible debt of the Company. In addition, as announced in the Company’s May 9, 2023 news release, Pala had also agreed to provide US$10 million in debt funding to the Company, US$5.5 million of which was advanced prior to announcement of the Offering. The additional US$4.5 million in debt funding was subject to certain conditions, including, but not limited to, the reduction on a dollar-for-dollar basis of the funding if the Over-Allotment Option was exercised. Given the partial exercise of the Over-Allotment Option, Pala was not required to fund the additional US$4.5 million commitment. This news release does not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy any securities in the United States. The securities have not been and will not be registered under the U.S. Securities Act or any state securities laws and may not be offered or sold within the United States or to U.S. Persons unless registered under the U.S. Securities Act and applicable state securities laws or an exemption from such registration is available. 2023.05.30 19:22 Est92xx Not my proudest moment
What this screenshot is? This is my attempted failure at playing as a promoted team to La Liga. - First save ever playing at 3rd Tier in general.
- Somehow managed to get back-to-back promotions to La Liga
- Wasn't ready for the transfer window
- Didn't sign enough CB's, W's, AF's
- Left out with only one right wing-back as my loanee can't be registered due to wage requirements.
- Have already lost the first 2 games in the season
- Morale is dropping
- Team cohesion has taken a hit
- Left wing-back got injured quite badly on my second game of La Liga
- And many more.
So if you ever think that you f....d up badly, remember there are way worse things happening elsewhere.

2023.05.30 19:20 Lolzzz4Dayzzz [CA] Boss/HR want to micromanage my schedule. Should I be concerned?
Hi,
I am a Campus Recruiting Manager within a national financial services company. I have been working here for over a year, and I am considered a high performer. I have 5 direct reports within my team who all have expressed positive feedback when working with me. Campus recruiting tends to be an interesting line of work, because my hours regularly include attending events held on weeknights and weekends, so I tend to work > 40 hours/ week.
I am also a coach at my local high school, and have been doing so for 4 years now. I typically coach 3-4 days/week from 3:00 - 5:00 PM year-round, after which I return to work and 'make up' the hours I missed while out. I personally feel as though up to this point I have been able to flex my schedule and complete my responsibilities as a coach with little to no interruption or disruption to my candidates, my hiring managers, my team, or the business as a whole, and do not foresee it causing any issues moving forward.
When I was first hired on to this company in April 2022, I confirmed with the hiring manager and people operations team that coaching would not be an issue with them so long as my work has not been affected (it hasn't been). Fast forward to now, I have a new boss (Talent Director) who isn't sold on my coaching involvement as it relates to my roll. I had my weekly one-on-one with them last Monday to discuss workflow, company initiatives, etc. and I was surprised to see one of our HR directors on the call. She wanted to 'make it clear that the firm wants to support me in my hobby' so they to put me on a shorted work schedule and cut my salary because of coaching and because I 'would be working reduced hours'. They alluded to the fact that I need to work 'regular business hours' so that I am available to our internal stakeholders.
Not really discussed in this call is the fact that as a member of the campus team, my ‘normal week’ regularly varies and absolutely does not mirror regular office hours. Flexibility is absolutely imperative on the campus team, as we are regularly expected to attend events outside of traditional business hours and work > 40 hours/week.
I mentioned that my baseball schedule was flexible, and I am not expected to be there every single day. HR is waiting to hear from my on what my 'anticipated' baseball schedule is so they can decide how to move forward. Our 'work hours policy' in our handbook is as follows;
Because of the nature of our business, your work schedule may vary depending upon your job and location. Our normal week consists of 40 hours, eight (8) hours per day, for five (5) consecutive days. The definition of a workweek is from Monday at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday midnight (hereinafter, "Workweek"). The definition of a workday is the 24-hour period from midnight to midnight. Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but may vary by office or department. The normal workday for full-time employees starts between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. You are responsible to obtain approval from your supervisor for different work hours.
Armanino reserves the right to set work schedules as deemed necessary to maintain quality client service and efficient day[1]to-day operations. When engaged on work for clients outside of the office, you should observe the hours of the office in which they are working. If you are a part-time employee, your supervisor will arrange your working hours and schedule.
How should I navigate this moving forward? Should I be worried with continuing to coach? Can they ask me to work 'regular hours' even though that is in direct contrast with what is expected of me in my day-to-day role? This feels horribly hypocritical to me as MANY people in our firm flex their schedules for one reason or another, and as mentioned, it has never affected my work product.

2023.05.30 19:12 Altruistic-Kiwi8911 Warning: Social life for transfers at Bing is cliquey and isolating
Hi all, I wanted to share my experience at bing as a transfer student who came in spring 2023 and wanted to get ur input on my experience. When I first transferred, I was hoping for a more social environment as I didn’t have many friends in high school and went to a small community college in fall 2022. But as soon as I got to bing, I honestly couldn’t believe just how cliquey it was. My roommate had absolutely no interest in interacting with anybody besides his high school friends, which he would invite over on weekends and practically kick me out. So I tried joining a club or two, but got way bogged down on my schedule and plus ppl in the clubs already knew each other and it was super cliquey there too. I don’t know if it’s just me, but do u guys think bing is really like another 4 years of high school? Literally every time I ate in the dining hall I ate alone, and I even tried to sit with people but some even became uncomfortable and even unfriendly and proceeded to walk away. And if they talked to me, and a ran into them again somewhere else in campus they would avoid me.
It was a truly isolating experience. I write this to not only gain the perspective of other students who maybe have had similar issues, but to warn future transfers of this since I think this may even be a transfer specific phenomenon. Now, I am even transferring again out of Binghamton because I wasn’t even able to make one friend and was soo lonely and isolated.
Be careful. Binghamton is a very, very cliquey school with a lot of people who have absolutely no interest in meeting others. And it makes for students to become isolated and depressed.

2023.05.30 18:59 cryingandying My boyfriend cheated on me and I don’t feel the same towards him.
Hello. I’m going to start off by saying I’m 15F almost 16 and Max (fake name) is 16M. For context I have been dating Max on and off for two years now. He has been my world and I thought I wanted to be with him forever. I love him but not as much as I used to. Max and I talked and liked each other for the first time in September. I remember I thought he was weird but I really liked him and created a huge image of him in my head stemming lust and a lot of me wanting to be with him forever. I understand my youth can cause this to seem really small and irrelevant but in my eyes it hurts bad. Through the first two months, Max had hurt me a lot. He was not very nice to me and would be verbally short and dry and tell me I was too paranoid all the time. I didn’t care. For some reason I was determined to make it work with him and waiting for a while. The first time we officially started dating in December 2021, It was only for 11 days. I loved him a lot though because we had talked so often on and off before. I felt really attached to him even though he treated me like shit and hadn’t even talked to me that often during the relationship. Eventually, on January 1st, he left me. What I didn’t know back then was he was asking for other girl’s snapchats while we were dating. He shattered me really bad. I was torn. He continued leading me on after that and just asked for a break. But of course while I was at school he said he wanted a permanent break up. I felt completely devastated. I don’t even know why. Eventually though in March, he came back and I was ecstatic and I was so excited at the chance he’d maybe be back with me. But no. It all was torn down again when he told me there was another girl and he was going to stay with her. At that point I still didn’t know that he had asked other girls for there media and was being dishonest. I continued to move on and it got better but eventually we began to rekindle our relationship in July 2022. I figured this time would be different but he treated me even worse. He called me annoying and that he’d leave me for being so paranoid about other girls but looking back now, i had every reason to be. We had been arguing often and I was shattered because I was such a pushover wanting this to work with him. Because I had such little trust towards him and I was only 15, (I was 14 when this story began) I had my friend test him by adding him on snapchat and trying to get him on a date. She had started flirting and sent a picture of her face to him and almost immediately he said “Damn.” My friend then proceeded to ask him if he was single or talking to anyone and he said no entirely. When i confronted him about this he said it was not a big deal but it broke me to pieces. I tried talking to him about this later on but he said “Clearly I’m not doing anything wrong because you’re still here.” Eventually I just left the issue and got over it and stayed with him. But literally a week later he texts me and tells me about another girl (we’ll call her Katie) and how they’ve dated before and how she texted him telling him she missed him, and that he missed her too. This actually broke me so bad. I wanted to die. Eventually he left me for her but I don’t wanna get into that depth because it still hurts me now. After a few months to myself and trying to heal I had hardly made any progress. I saw him at a football game for my high school and I ended up standing next to him. He talked to me a lot and eventually we just kind of started dating again. I know. Stupid of me. After a while, we went to homecoming together and he asked me over snapchat which was so lame i was so bummed. But when we got to homecoming he literally ditched me and didn’t stand by me one time during the whole event. i started crying and this is when my guy friend (we’ll call him Lucas) hugged me and tried to make me feel better. I was uncomfortable though so I walked away towards my friend Ava. When Max found this out he accused me of cheating and grinding on Lucas which was not even 1% true. But me being my stupid self and wanting him and I to last I said sorry and that it never happened and begging for him to stay and to forgive me for so long. Finally he stayed (unfortunately) and we began to grow from there. What I did not know was him and Katie were still friends (against her will) and he had been begging to meet up with her and to take her to a football game and that I didn’t need to know. Thank god Katie is a good person and said no. He told her he missed her and he needed to see her. I didn’t even find this out from him which makes this story even worse. I had added Katie on snapchat to get the full story that Max had kept declining happened and leaving on details on but she gave me the entire side . Basically at the end of the night before finding that out Max had texted me and told me that he was going to leave me for her. I found out it was a joke and he made me feel like shit for not trusting him and for not thinking the joke was funny. I started getting over it and telling him I was leaving his ass because I couldn’t handle the drama. He began to beg me to stay and me being the idiot in love I am , I stayed. He kept picking small fights and saying I was jealous and had major trust issues and saying he was gonna leave me but never ended up doing it. I got tired and just always apologized for shit I never even did. He started getting better about it and I was really happy about that but I found out he was calling me ugly behind my back to his weird loser friends that nobody even likes. He told them I was ugly with ginger hair (natural ginger hair) but I was slightly JUST SLIGHTLY better because my hair was darker. I wanted to kill myself. I was so sad again. I confronted him about it and denied it until I lied to him and said I had video proof because I was tired of him lying. After that he fessed up and I was feeling so betrayed. The one boy I loved more than anything called me ugly because of my biggest insecurity behind my back? But if you’re asking yourself, no I didn’t leave him after that either. After him flirting with two more girls I asked him not to talk to I had left him publicly. Another thing I should mention is his weird love for his cousin Ellie. He had sent me pictures of him and Ellie snuggling, ditched me to go to her soccer game, scared off boys who had crushes on her and just relentlessly teased her and was overall seemingly obsessive over her. Me writing all of this down to share to you is putting me in perspective of how much i really hate Max right now. He has now been better. He isn’t mean to me at all anymore , he hasn’t cheated on me in a while , he hasn’t really done much anymore. I’m just so worn down by all of the past things he’s done to me and i’m not sure what to do. I know the right thing in your pov would be for me to leave him, but it isn’t that easy for me. I’ve loved this boy for so long and it’s so difficult to just leave. i have noticed some negative behavior on my half and me being not the nicest towards him, but i think it’s because of the past damage he’d done to me. idk. should i leave?

2023.05.30 18:45 CC--33 Ange Postecoglou, and why I think he should be appointed as the next manager of Leeds United.
Yes, it's another boring, purely hypothetical, long-winded post Leed's next manager. And I know that we've had about 1,000 of these posts over the last few days alone, but I really think that Ange is one of those managers that a lot of you seem to be overlooking, for a variety of different reasons.
So as someone that has followed his career, and supports a club that he's actually managed at, let me just tell you all why I think he would be the absolute perfect manager to take us forward, especially long-term.
And first of all, yeah, I'm aware that the odds of us being able to draw him to the Championship are low, he will probably end up taking a Premier League job, in fact, he's heavily rumored with Tottenham as we speak, but I would take Celtic's Ange Postecoglou in an absolute heartbeat. In fact, he was the bloke that I heavily advocated to take over from Marsch, and I still think it was a mistake not appointing him back then.
A bit of a history rundown for those wondering who "Big Ange" as we call him over here in Australia is.
- Won absolutely everything there is to win here in Australia in terms of our national competition, the A-League. Single-handedly turned the Brisbane Roar from lower-table obscurity into arguably one of the best footballing dynasties this country has ever seen.
- Left Brisbane to take over Melbourne Victory and rebuild the club after years of mismanagement and perennial underperforming. He would stay at the club only a short time before being given the national team gig, but during his time at the club, he pretty much rebuilt it from the ground up, and is credited with putting together the squad that would later go on to become the first-ever domestic treble winners in A-League history.
- During his time as Australia's manager, we won the Asian Cup for the first time in our country's history. Given how competitive the Asian confederation is, and how good teams like Japan, South Korea etc have become, please understand that this was a monumental achievement for a country like ours that doesn't even consider football to be a first-rate sport. Ange still reflex on it today as one of the greatest achievements of his career so far, and probably rightly so.
- Ange during this time was very outspoken about how seriously the sport was taken in Australia, the support he was given by our governing body, how critical our media could be etc, and following a successful 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, stepped down as manager of the national team to pursue club football in Japan.
- During his time at Yokohama in Japan, in just his second season in charge, he won the J-League, the first time Yokohama had won it in about 40 or 50 years, something ridiculous like that.
- And obviously is now at Celtic, where once again, he has won pretty much everything realistically available to him, except for obviously the Champions League.
People might poo hoo Ange because he's Australian, because he's never managed at what some people perceive to be the "elite level", what they really mean is, he's never managed in England.
There are a lot of reasons I've seen people give as to why they think appointing someone like Ange would be a mistake.
But let me say this.
Every single club he has ever managed at, he has always won silverware with.
He has never once, ever in his career departed a club on bad terms, in fact to my knowledge, he's actually never been fired, he's always left on mutual terms to pursue other opportunities.
And lastly, as somebody that supports a club that he's managed at, Melbourne Victory, he is probably just about as close to the Australian version of Marcelo Bielsa as you will ever get. He is almost universally loved by everyone in this country for the success he brought during his time as national team manager, and he's generally thought of almost universally in this country as one of the greatest managers we have ever produced.
Ange, in my opinion, would probably be one of the best appointments the club could make, especially for a long-term project.

Please if you can, take the time to read our story. Just taking the time means everything to us. If you can share it, please do. And if you can donate, even $1 makes all the difference to us.
Below is our story on GFM:
Hi. My name is Kemisha and my husband's name is Bryce. We are going through the worst time of our lives right now and we're looking for help. Our only vehicle was repossesed due to being late on paying, and although I had a payment scheduled, due to unforseen circumstances with the person who co-signed the lease with me and who has access to the account, the payment was canceled without my knowledge. Due to the payment being canceled, it was reviewed and since I no longer had a payment schedule, the proceeded to start the repossesiton process. I only found out this afternoon when I looked out our kitchen window and saw that our car was gone. There was no notice left at my door, and no one knocked. This event has completely blindsided us.
Last August 2022, my husband injured his back and might have to have surgery. Since it happened while he was working (warehouse employee) we have been struggling to get the workman's comp insurance to approve his appointments, physical therapy, and other necessary appointments. He finally got scheduled for a MRI and physical therapy for next week, so having our car is detrimental. The following month (Sept. 2022), our son was born stillborn. I had been working as a doula up until that point, and have not been ready yet to go back to my career in birthwork. Between the time off from me being at work, us trying to heal, my husband being completely unable to work and making less than half of what his normal monthly salary is, we got to a point where we started struggling greatly for money.
I have been trying for the last few months to get a job doing something else, preferably from home so I can help him (he can hardly walk at this point), but it has been unsuccessful due to such a large gap in my resume - and I have made sure to disclose with possible employers the reason why I have not worked since September. I am praying for anything to come through, but at this time, we don't have the money. We would either have to choose between using the only money we do have on June's rent and electric bill or to use that money to get the car back. And even if we did use that money for the car, it still would not be enough. The amount is $1693.17 to get the vehicle back as well as late fees, but I was told by an agent that the amount will increase the longer we have to wait. Please, please help us. The last eight months have been a nightmare and we are just holding on to each other as tightly as we can to get by. Family and friends are unable to help because everyone is struggling right now.
We need our car back. Please help us. Driving my husband to PT and his upcoming appointments, trying to find a job and driving around to pick up any application I can get my hands on, everything. This is unimaginable and we are just trying to get by until something, anything can come through for us and we can start recovering from the financial crisis we are in. The car could go to auction in as few as 10 days. Please help us. If you made it to the bottom of this message - thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you are able to share it, that would be a major help. I'm going to do everything I can to share this. Thank you.

2023.05.30 18:15 zpobonck Anyone else in line for Dr. Hadad? (indianapolis)
Hey all! If you’re in line for Dr. Hadad, what’s your timeline looking like?
If you are, you’ll know their scheduling time moved from 12 months out to 16-18 months out (lmao 🫠) and also everytime you call it’s very vague and uncertain (if you’re able to get a call back)
So! Reaching out to the community for answers and piecing together correct timelines: Where are you at timeline wise? I’ll go first lol.
Scheduled my consult in March of 2022. Had my (virtual) consult September of 2022. Was told I’d receive a call 12-16 months from consult to schedule. Last update I heard from office was I’d receive a call by July 2023-September 2023 for a spring surgery date.
Also, anyone also having their Indiana HIP insurance coverage getting redetermined? It was going to cover top surgery completely but I’m probably going to loose it far before the surgery date haha. 🫠🫡

2023.05.30 17:47 OkInformation7299 $XELA In-depth DD: Is its 229%SI true? I did a lot of research and found something extremely interesting.
| Today when I checked the $XELA short interest on ORTEX, I was astonished because it showed the SI is 229%. Normally, this kind of numbers was totally wrong considering there was a reverse split happened on $XELA recently. But when I took a closer look at the date on which the reverse split happened, I found something which could not be properly explained. Let me just sort things out here. https://preview.redd.it/bnnolmqedz2b1.png?width=865&format=png&auto=webp&s=c640c85eac957d6572645f7d76d7330e351b55de - Backgroud
Exela Technologies announced that they have approved a 1-for-200 reverse stock split of the Company’s common stock, which was effective at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, May 12th, 2023. As a result, The Company’s shares began trading on a split-adjusted basis on the Nasdaq Capital Market commencing upon market open on May 15th, 2023. Immediately after the reverse split becomes effective, there would be approximately 6.4 million shares of common stock issued and outstanding. (Source: https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2023/05/12/2668113/0/en/Exela-Technologies-Announces-Reverse-Split.html ) - How do the reverse split work in the official short interest report ?
ORTEX showed that the official SI data were released on May 24th by exchanges, and the settlement date was May 15th. So, the key issue is - has the reverse split been reflected in the official short interest report? Well, according to the NASDAQ website, the description is very clear: The short interest information includes the adjustment for stock splits. The adjustment to the short interest for stocks that split on or before the reporting settlement date will automatically be reflected in all historical data available on the website to facilitate historical comparisons. For stock splits that occur after the settlement date, however, the adjustment will be reflected in the following reporting period. If a stock split occurs before the settlement date, the Short Interest and Average Daily Share volume will be adjusted based on that stock split. https://preview.redd.it/cbxud8vidz2b1.png?width=865&format=png&auto=webp&s=306137401df29f50ca77910aec5622b034c3b55a (source: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/trader.aspx?id=shortintpubsch ) Based on the above statement, because the S happened on May 15th, these reported 14.59m shorted shares should have been adjusted by the exchange already. - Theory verification using case studies.
I investigated the lasted three tickers that got reverse split exactly on the settlement days: IMPP, ATNX, ARVL. IMPP( S on April 28th 2023, at a ratio of 1-for-50) https://www.nasdaq.com/press-release/imperial-petroleum-inc.-announces-reverse-stock-split-2023-04-26 We can see that the SI decreased dramatically from 16m (04/14) to 1.3m (04/28). At the same time, the average daily share volume dropped from 14m (04/14) to 0.4m (04/28). Both items have huge changes so the S has been included in the SI report clearly. https://preview.redd.it/dhk8lgdbmz2b1.png?width=865&format=png&auto=webp&s=153d8f4f0a553ee8c8500fcedeea8515d5259f03 ARVL( S on April 14th 2023, at a ratio of 1-for-50) https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2023/04/12/2645765/0/en/CORRECTION-ARRIVAL-Announces-Reverse-Stock-Split.html We can see that the SI decreased from 27.7m (03/31) to 0.91m (04/14). At the same time, the average daily share volume dropped from 12.3m (03/31) to 0.68m (04/14). In this case, the short interest 14.6m has been adjusted and it is correct! I opened FINRA website, it also showed the $XELA SI is 229% while the float is only 6.3m. Can’t believe my eyes. May 22, 2023 ~Developing advanced niobium-graphene batteries with unprecedented 30-year lifecycles~ Developing advanced niobium-graphene batteries with unprecedented 30-year lifecycles (nanowerk.com) With applications in medical devices, electric vehicles, aerospace equipment, and more, the batteries are being tested in a new USD3.8 million (S$5 million) high-tech laboratory launched by NUS and CBMM Batteries play a crucial role in powering many modern devices, such as mobile phones, pacemakers, and electric vehicles. Yet, traditional lithium-ion batteries pose limitations such as safety risks, short life cycles, and long charging times. The pioneer niobium-graphene batteries developed by the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), an innovator in the research of graphene and other 2-dimensional (2D) materials, and CBMM, the global leader in niobium products and technology, will address all these problems. The batteries are being tested at the new CBMM-CA2DM Advanced Battery Laboratory which was launched today by NUS and CBMM and established with a joint investment of USD3.8 million (S$5 million) over three years, supported by the National Research Foundation, Singapore. “The CBMM-CA2DM Advanced Battery Laboratory is the most high-tech and well-equipped facility in Singapore to explore new frontiers in battery technology. The lab provides researchers with advanced equipment to create new solid electrolytes, fabricate various cell forms, and eventually put their innovations to the test. We have made significant progress in our development of niobium-graphene batteries which are proving to be a game changer in safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Professor Antonio H. Castro Neto, Director of CA2DM. Rethinking battery capabilities The pioneer niobium-graphene batteries have proven to have greater performance and safety compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. In addition, volatile and flammable liquid electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries will be replaced by niobium-containing solid electrolytes, further enhancing the novel batteries' safety and energy density. Benefits of niobium-graphene batteries include: • Long life cycle: Performance duration is 10 times longer (estimated to be around 30 years) than traditional lithium-ion batteries, making them more durable and reliable. • Safety: Operate at a safe voltage window and safely discharge without overheating in case of accidental damage. • Fast charging: Fully charged in less than 10 minutes, which increases convenience. • Improved performance: Niobium enhances conductivity and stabilises the host structure, leading to improved battery rate performance and long cycling stability. • Sustainability: Niobium is a relatively abundant and environmentally friendly material, making the batteries a more sustainable alternative to traditional lithium- ion batteries. Niobium serves as the primary active material in the negative electrode of the batteries while also being used as an additive in the positive electrode. Graphene, on the other hand, is utilised in both negative and positive electrodes to boost electronic conductivity and structural stability. In the negative electrode, the unique crystal structure of niobium materials facilitates rapid charging without damaging the structure. In the positive electrode, niobium materials can increase ionic conductivity and safeguard the active material from degradation. Additionally, the low-density nature of graphene significantly improves the electronic conductivity of both electrodes without compromising the overall energy density of the battery. The final prototype of the niobium-graphene battery is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2024. “As they have a longer lifespan, the new graphene-niobium batteries significantly reduce total cost of ownership compared to existing lithium-ion batteries and have ultrafast charging capabilities. In addition, they offer higher safety as they do not risk explosion even in high temperatures,” said Rogerio Ribas, CBMM Global Head of Batteries. “The first batteries to combine niobium applications on both cathode and anode, they also have advantages such as higher input and output power, wider temperature operating range and higher state of charge thus can be developed for specific markets such as commercial and industrial applications including regenerative braking systems for hybrid vehicles (rails, trucks, and passengers cars), heavy-duty applications, intralogistics, cordless power tools among others,” adds Mr Ribas. The new laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for both research and manufacturing of advanced niobium-based batteries and solid electrolytes. Due to their high-performance capabilities, the niobium-graphene batteries have wide-ranging potential applications, including medical devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators, and aerospace equipment, such as satellites and spacecraft, all of which require long cycle life and high safety standards. Other potential applications include electric vehicles, and consumer electronics. “With the increasing need for sustainable and high-performance energy solutions, the CBMM-CA2DM Advanced Battery Laboratory marks a strong partnership between enterprise and research with exciting real-world applications. At NUS, we constantly seek to push the boundaries of innovation, and we look forward to the lab’s novel contributions to science and technology, as well as the industry,” said Professor Chen Tsuhan, NUS Deputy President (Innovation and Enterprise), and Chairman of the CA2DM Board. Poised for further breakthroughs in battery technology The CBMM-CA2DM Advanced Battery Laboratory is the first of its kind in Singapore that is equipped end-to-end for customised battery creation and testing. Key features of the lab include an electrolyte processing unit, and a dry room with humidity going as low as one percent, which enables the handling of moisture-sensitive battery materials. The dry room is also seamlessly linked to a series of gloveboxes that create an inert atmosphere for the batteries to be assembled. This ensures zero contamination throughout the process. The lab design also allows for thousands of prototypes to be tested per month. The laboratory houses advanced battery testers that can carry out charge and discharge cycles, investigate working and degradation mechanisms, and predict the durability of the batteries produced. In addition, the lab has equipment that allows researchers to fabricate various forms of battery cells, such as coin and pouch cells, in different dimensions. Going forward, the lab aims to test and create more advanced and novel batteries with various materials and interact with the local research institutes, faculties, and industry to develop frontier technology in batteries. One high-tech target is to develop solid-state battery technology which does not require any flammable liquids inside, making it completely safe. An industrial space will also be created within the lab to allow external companies to develop and test battery prototypes to fulfill their commercial needs. MAY 26, 2023~What are critical minerals - and why are they key to a greener future? What are critical minerals - and why are they key to a greener future? World Economic Forum (weforum.org) https://preview.redd.it/tt37ti12kz2b1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=1f6032b433ae2bc04c01c0818b24de134bbd35b1 Critical minerals – the once forgotten elements crucial to modern day technology – have made it to the top of the geopolitical agenda. A global battery arms race, driven by the advent of electric vehicles (EVs), has seen a step change in demand for lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite, manganese and rare earths. A supply demand mismatch, especially for lithium, has created a tremendous raw material disconnect between those building gigafactories and EVs – and those that mine these elements critical for their function. We have moved from a world where traditional commodities have taken second stage to the commodities of the future. And lithium-ion batteries and their key raw material inputs have taken centre stage in policy, namely the US Inflation Reduction Act. Have you read? But, other major economies such as the European Union, UK, and Australia are all establishing large-scale funding and associated legislation. The G7 Hiroshima Leaders’ Communique mentions critical minerals 10 times, India’s lithium reserves made front pages, as did Chile’s proposed nationalization of the element. The EU just passed the Critical Raw Materials Act, and the US National Security Advisor mentioned minerals several times at his recent major policy speech. This level of political attention is new, but such heights of the limelight never last long. A seismic technology shift is upon us as the world moves aggressively towards electric vehicles, sparking the dawn of the 'energy storage revolution’ – a revolution currently led by China. Training
I've been running on and off for as long as I can remember, but I really got serious about it around seven or eight years ago. Unfortunately, the pandemic messed up my plans for a Boston Qualifying attempt after I clocked a 1:23:30 HM in February 2020. Plus, I had some annoying hamstring tightness, which kept me from running faster than a 4:45/km pace for most of 2021 and 2022. Somehow (after months unsuccessful physio and trying different things), this all changed in late 2022. I was able to run a bit faster and do some decent tempos and intervals.
To gauge my progress and boost my confidence, I participated in a 10K race in March 2023, where I achieved a personal best time of 36:55, surpassing my previous record of 38:05. Encouraged by this improvement, I reignited my pursuit of a BQ and registered for a marathon scheduled in July. The Ottawa Half Marathon was an opportunity to assess my performance and make necessary adjustments.
In terms of training, I adhered to a structured plan, gradually increasing my mileage to build endurance. Leading up to the 10K race, my peak mileage reached approximately 90 kilometers. Following a brief recovery period post-race, I resumed training, pushing my weekly mileage to around 120 kilometers until Ramadan started in late March. I fasted for Ramadan so I reduced my training intensity during the month. After Ramadan, maintaining a consistent and rigorous training regimen for approximately five weeks leading up to the Ottawa Half Marathon.
The most important part of my training might have been my sauna sessions. Ottawa Race Weekend can be relatively hot, especially compared to the months leading up to it. In preparation, I implemented a specific training strategy to acclimate myself to the potential heat. Over a period of ten days leading up to the race, I dedicated 30 minutes each day to the sauna. I think this might have been the most important part of my training.
Pre-race
I did a mini-taper of 5 days to prepare for the race. I also carb-loaded ahead of the race. I knew that it wouldn't be necessary for the half-marathon, but I wanted to do a dry run for my marathon in July. I ended up gaining 5 pounds in sugar and water weight, which probably wasn't ideal for this race, but will definitely be needed for the marathon. I had a very light dinner the day before the race and a bit of juice the morning of the juice. I also took caffeine pills, my normal routine for races.
Race
I always get nervous for races. I feel like my heart is pounding and I am slightly short of breath. I also have a tendency to go out too fast. This race was no different. After the first few hundred metres, I looked at my watch and my pace was 3:35 (not sure it was accurate). So I decided to slow down a bit. The beginning of the race was downhill, which helped me not over exert myself. The first few kilometres I found a good rhythm running behind a couple of the other runners around me. I always try drafting in races if I can. I am not sure how much of a difference it makes, but it seems to make running easier. I also made sure to run through all the cooling stations and also pick up water to dump on myself to stay cool.
The downhill portion of the race ended after a few kilometres so my average pace kept creeping up throughout the race. I felt good and was pleased to hit the 10K under my goal pace. I knew there were a few uphills in the last few KM so I was pretty sure I would need to bank a bit of time.
The uphills started at about 15KM and I was pleased to still be relatively cool, which I think I can attribute to my sauna training. I also took a tylenol before the race, which I know is not recommended. Whether it's a placebo effect or not, this seems to help me stay cool and I have done it successfully in previous races and training.
I passed the lead woman at about 15KM (she seemed to be struggling with some kind of injury). At about 17KM or I was passed by another woman who was now in the lead. She was being paced by a few runners so I decided to join their pack. I had a bit left in the tank so slowly pulled away from them in the last few KMs. My legs were getting quite sore by the end of the race so I couldn't kick in the last KM like I wanted but I finished strong, 3:45 for the last KM according to my watch.
Post-race
I was exhaused after pushing it in those final kilometers. I collapsed into a chair for a minute or so, catching my breath and letting the sweat dry. Then, I congratulated some of the people I ran with during the race, including the women's race winner. I wasn't really hungry or thirsty when I finished (probably from the carb load), so I passed on all the food and drinks at the finish line. I live pretty close to the race, about 1.5 kilometers away, so I jogged home, changed into fresh clothes, and went back back out to cheer on my friends who were still running. We took a few post-race pics together before refueling with a well-deserved lunch. I am still pretty sore two days after the race, which is not ideal for my marathon training, so this week is going to be lower mileage than I had planned, but I am overall very pleased with my performance and feel confident for July.

so i got into a car accident in december 2022 and it was on the way to work, i slid on black ice in my jeep and my jeep hit a guardrail and flipped 3x. i was out for 2-3 weeks but never taken off the schedule and sedgwick never approved my claim because they kept messing up the date so my coach took them off with proof of the police report.
January 2023, i got covid from work and didn’t know until i went in and couldn’t lift anything and felt weak constantly and i clocked out and told my team leads. that leave was approved ASAP
February 2023, i got the stomach virus and was hospitalized because of how low my levels were and how weak i was.
March 2023 comes by and at the beginning of the 20th i started feeling weak and out of it, i went into work still and could barely drive to work and at 5:15 i opened an energy drink because i thought i was just tired or my blood sugar was low but i was going to pay for it but by 5:55 the ambulance was called and my team leads were with me and gave me water and a snack from the shelves. 6:05 i was taken by the ambulance in front of walmart and no one by the front registers (self checkout and cashier registers) so i couldn’t pay for it also. i vividly still remember it was sitting in the back room and i ran to my sister to call the ambulance because i was scared i was going to pass out or something bad during work.
That week i came back and 1 hour before i had to leave for the end of shift i was pulled into the office, i was told that i’m not a bad person blah blah and that people who steal aren’t horrible. they said that i’m a good worker and such then said that i’m being terminated and that they have cameras of what i’ve done but i’ve never stole, i barely even shop at walmart because i just wanna leave by the time i clock in, all i do is buy redbulls so i can function at work. (also why i feel weak, tired and sad was is because of stress and the car accident and when i was taken to the hospital that day they told me that)
they put me as non rehirable and gross misconduct on my termination paper for a 8oz redbull that i was going to pay for, it was so hard to even get a job and the look on people’s faces when i tell them what happened made me feel shitty.
i still have bad dreams about how it happened/ how that store was ran and how i could’ve done things differently because i felt like they were always out to get me especially my girl team leads and some coworkers . i feel like their has to be a way for me to be rehired or something because i still feel like i was taken advantage of and my financial support was taken away from me, i can’t pay my car insurance now and my bills (i was also denied unemployment). suck situation that i’ve never been in for my 10 years+ of working
