Location: Michigan.
TLDR: I [26M] loaned a total of $4,300 USD to a friend across seven Cashapp payments from mid-February through early March of 2023. All of these payments were made with the promise of being paid within a day or two, if not same-day. Over three months later, I’ve yet to be paid back, and at this point I’m wondering whether small claims court or pressing criminal charges is my best bet.
For background, my longtime friend [26F, we’ll call her Sam] messaged me explaining that, after she’d moved to Washington from Michigan a few months prior, she’d lost her wallet and basically all of her banking cards. Because her identity was still based in Michigan, it was next to impossible for her to regain access to her bank accounts.
Shortly after that, her abusive boyfriend kicked her out of their shared apartment in Washington, leaving her with no family out there and no place to go. Since she didn’t have access to her funds (though was in the process of getting them back) she didn’t have any immediate funds to purchase a plane ticket to get back home to Michigan. So, I loaned her a total of $1,750 across three Cashapp payments to get her the plane tickets needed to fly back home.
The reason I sent her multiple payments was because as she got bumped from one flight due to overbooking, she’d instead have to buy her way onto another flight lest she stay at the airport for the next available flight on the first airline.
All of this money was loaned to her with the understanding that it would be paid back within a few days. After she finally made it home to Michigan, she then contracted COVID and was hospitalized for a week plus (as she’s a cancer patient, she told me her case was rougher than normal and there was extra risk of further infection/complications). As a result, there was radio silence from her for about a week or two until I got back in contact with her.
So, in early March, we make arrangements for her to bring $1800 (she offered extra for the inconvenience) in cash to my house (which she has visited in the past) so that I can be fully paid off. At this point, it still sounds like some of her bank account access is restricted, though she has been able to do some banking in-person to withdraw the cash that she needs. Around this time, I receive a photo of her with the cash, with the proper timestamp in the metadata to show it was legitimate.
Before she stops at my house, she ends up having to get some work done on her car, which runs her about $900. I received proof of the cost estimate from the auto shop she went to and sent her this money. Once the work was done (replacing her brake lines), she then makes her way to my house…and gets in an accident on the way here. She says she pulls over into a parking lot where I can see a pretty gnarly gash in the side of her car, but based on where she said she stopped (roughly 15 minutes from my house) I can’t place her surroundings in the photo with where she says she stopped, one of many small red flags. So, the cash drop doesn’t happen that night.
The next day, she asks for more money as her dealership (or maybe insurance?) requires a deposit before they can repair her car. I send her the last of the money I’m able to send - another $950 - with the promise that she’d pay back all the money I’m owed in cash within one day, maximum. At this point, I am owed $3600.
Another mutual friend of ours - named Elliott, for the purposes of this post - also loaned Sam $1,200 in this situation, so between the two of us she owes $4,800.
Shortly after the situation with her car, she goes silent again. I get in contact with her mother, named Eleanor, and she informs me that Sam has been hospitalized in Ohio since that’s where her health insurance is based. I was later told that this was for a reproductive procedure that put her health at risk.
Inexplicably, Elliott receives a payment from Sam for $500 of the $1,200 she’s owed, with no explanation or warning. Sam tells both Elliott and me that the rest of Elliott’s payments would be coming in chunks throughout the day, which they never do.

Now we’re at early-April, and I finally hear back from Sam with a promise to get me the money back that I’m owed. At this point, I’ve fallen behind on bills because money that i loaned with the understanding it would be gone for no more than a few days has been gone for weeks. I tell her this and stress the urgency of the situation that I’m now in, so W\we make arrangements a few different times for me to either visit her in the hospital in Ohio, or for her to drive up once she’s discharged, but every time something comes up that requires her to push back by a day or two.
At one point, she pledges to drive up to me to drop off the money on a Monday evening. I’m getting video of her in the car, with the money. All is well. An hour before she’s due to arrive, she gets a call that she has to pick up a drunk relative from the bar, and that this was an emergency. I’ve met said relative and all of his behavior does match up with what she’s telling me, so I patiently wait for her to sort things out.
That night, she tells me this relative assaulted her and that she was at the hospital getting checked out. Strangely enough, the first photo she sends me of her at the hospital does NOT have metadata that matches with the current date and time, having been taken six weeks prior. I call her on this, and she apologizes and actually sends me a photo of her getting checked out, with metadata that matches. This is, as far as I can tell, the only time she knowingly sent a photo or other item of proof under false pretenses.
The next day, I receive a text message from her grandmother, Roberta. She informs me that Sam has been admitted to a psychiatric ward for suicidal ideation, and that she has left me a check in her mailbox for the $3,600 that I am owed while she drives down to Ohio to be with her granddaughter. I go over to their place to retrieve the check, and a day after I mobile deposit it, the funds appear in my account. I figure all is well, so I personally Cashapp $700 to Elliott to make sure he’s whole rather than wait for Roberta to get around to him, which Roberta is fine with.
Well, a few days later, I get a notification from my bank that the check has actually bounced, and the funds were removed from my account. I let Roberta know this, and she writes me a new check from a different account that I then pick up later that evening. A week later, this check also bounces.

I see her for the first time in over a year during this exchange, which lasts about fifteen seconds before she runs back inside. She tells me during this time that in case this third check bounces, she will also bring me cash the next day, and that I can deposit that and return it to her via Cashapp in case something happens to the check.
We’re at mid-May now. Once the check bounces roughly a week later, she’s already pushed back the cash dropoff a couple of times. We resolve to stick solely to cash at this point, and on the day where she pledges - FINALLY, this time - to bring me the money, I get a call from Roberta again. Her husband (Sam’s grandfather) has a bunch of medical debt that has to be paid off before he can be cared for at the VA hospital, and asks if I can wait to be paid until June 2nd - a little over two weeks from when she was calling.
I don’t give her a definitive answer, and instead talk directly with Sam to try and get this sorted. She sends me a location pin to confirm that she is, in fact, at the VA hospital in question. So, since she’s now paying off this medical debt of her grandfather’s to avoid it going to collections, we’re now working with her brother Jackson to have him send me the money, since Roberta and him share an account due to power of attorney.
A few days go by of trying to get him to send me the money, and she/he keep pushing back, and then all contact drops a week before Memorial Day. At this point, I’ve had enough. I text Sam and Roberta and tell them that, if I am not paid in full by Tuesday June 6th (Exactly two weeks from that point), I would take Sam to small claims court. I tried to be as understanding and sympathetic of what was going on as I could, but at this point enough had been enough.

What are my options here? I’ve received enough proof that at least a good chunk of what has happened has, actually, happened, but there’s enough suspicion and unanswered questions that arise that make it obvious I’m being fleeced. Would small claims court be the best way to go? I already know that the amount I’m owed is under the max limit for small claims in Michigan.
Or, should I go to the police if there’s the potential for criminal charges? I have been in the market for a new vehicle for a few months now, but have been busy saving up for a down payment. And since I'm close to my target downpayment, my husband and I went to look at vehicles this past weekend. We settled on one car, which will be the most expensive and luxurious car I have ever owned.
I am frugal, so I wanted the base model, but my husband and I really liked the extras in the top tier one. My husband asked me if it had everything I wanted and I told him it did, but the price gave me pause since it would increase my monthly payment past what I wanted to pay per month.
So we got out of the car, and went back into the dealership. When we sat down, I let my husband do all the talking to the sales guy for two reasons. One, I don't know much about cars and have very little haggling skills in that area. Two, my husband and I had already discussed things and I knew he would make the best decision for us.
So what did my husband do? He chose the top tier option and I STFU and nodded in agreement without snark or complaints. We paid a holding fee, since the car we want has to be built still, and left. Then on the drive back home, my husband surprised me and told me he was going to give me 50% of my downpayment and pay for it to get special detailing so it's extra nice when I receive it.and since my downpayment is already 50% of the car, that's no chump change. I was elated.
The old me would've argued with him in the dealership and probably told him how much of a waste the extra couple of thousand dollars was for the top tier, etc. But by respecting my husband's judgement and place as my captain, especially out in public, it paid off for me in the long run. My husband is a capable man and knew that the costlier option was affordable to us and that it would make us both happier in the long run. And he found a solution to make me feel better about it as well.

Another post earlier today inspired me to say a quick goodbye. After 12 years of loving and hating this city, the stress is just too much, and I'm moving my family home to London. My lovely wife, a teacher, gave her job notice this morning and we'll be listing our home for sale this week.
Were it a perfect world, we would have grown old and died here. Leaving Turkiye feels like losing family. Life here, has just become slightly less tenable with each major election/coup/terror attack. Each event made us feel somewhat less welcome. With the homophobic and anglophobic rhetoric, I feel the bridge between the west and the east will always be severed, and it's time to begin our next journey.
To the 47.82% of Turkiye, you know who you are, it's been a jolly good time, and I hope you get through this somehow.

Throwaway account. This happened in 2015 on the Piccadilly Line, in the London Underground, if you are not familiar with It you might want to get a map of it. So, I was just going back home after seeing a friend's concert in North London, at the time I lived around Dollis Hill Stn in NW, I was travelling back with a friend of mine, we were both extremely sober (I only had a small beer at the start of the evening and drank water during the event) and hadn't smoked nor taken any sort of drugs, nor we have ever been psichiatric patients. It was some time after 11 pm and we were a bit concerned about the underground closing time so we were trying to figure out the best route. As we approached King's cross St Pancreas stn we decided that maybe It would have been best for us to change with the jubilee line at Green Park, only to change idea at the last second. We got up from out seats towards the exit and the train doors closed right in front of us. Not a big deal, we decided to get off at the next station (Russel Square) as It was a small station and it would have been easier after all to go back to King's cross were we had more chances to find trains still running. So we wait a few minutes for the train to get to next stop, the monitors on the train and the voice over the speaker telling us that out destination will be Heathrow Airport. The train reaches Russel Square, its name spelt out on the ceramics that decorate the walls. The doors open right in front of the short corridor leading to the staircase where a man is mopping the steps, in preparation for closure. We go over the bridge and wait on the platform, right in front of a billboard advertising David Bowie's latest release (I believe It was the last of his compilation albums). The monitor tells us our train is only 2 minutes away and will terminate at cockfosters. As usual, my friend and I can't help but chuckle. The train arrives, we both get in, doors close behind us. A couple of minutes go by and I can't help but notice the people with their luggage, that for whatever reason didn't seem like they were coming back from the airport. The monitor says: 'This is a Southbound train to Heathrow Terminal 1,2,3 and 5'. It must be some kind of mistake...so why is the recorded voice announcing the same? And why is It saying "The Next stop Is Russel Square"? My friend and I are a bit confused, so we ask the couple with the luggage for their destination. Heathrow. They must be on the wrong train and the computer system must have somehow fucked up. There is no other explanation. So we wait patiently for our train to get to King's Cross St Pancras, however as the light starts coming in from the windows we can't help but notice the same ceramic patterns of Russel Square Stn, its name spelt on the wall. Once again the door opens in front of the same corridor and the same guy is cleaning the stairs - I swear he glanced at me in a way that made me clear that he's seen me already. Once again we are greeted by David Bowie's face and once again we get on a train to cockfosters, only this time we are not thinking about juvenile puns. We manage to both get home safely, in complete disbelief but sure that we have had the same experience, nobody has ever been able to give an explanation of what happened and I have done again the same route to find out that its perfectly ok.
TL;DR I took a train at Russel Square station in London to go back to King's Cross and ended up once more at Russel Square, where I had to take the same train again to continue my journey.

Still ate there all throughout high school, and then came the time I started job hunting. I applied to the nearest Chipotle and they interviewed me two different times and never called back. I guess I was too young to them at the time. A year later after quitting Walmart, I applied to a different one, and they called me back the same day. I had gotten hired on the spot, and luckily I had brought my documents.
My first GM was cool. I remembered him giving me a chance when no one else would. I made minimum wage at the other places I worked and then this guy offered me $17.50 just because he “saw that I had potential.”
My first few weeks, I worked my fucking ass off. I was faster than almost anyone who worked there and I was much more clean and I knew how to think for myself. My boss loved me. Not to brag, but in the year I’ve been there I’m convinced nobody wanted it as much as I did starting out. I felt like my boss cared for me, I showed nothing but loyalty, and I’d kill fat lines and get our throughput (sales) high.
It came around June, I got promoted and I had gotten an even bigger raise for a KL wage. Was making 19.75, and he was trying to argue with the OLD FL to pay me 20. I honestly felt pretty on top of the world. He reassured me I’m getting my worth.
Things went south quick. Boss quit overnight and we were fucked over bad. This young guy had no choice but to step up in a time where we had nobody else. We ran the store as honest as we could. First thing he did was promote me and then we basically ran an insanely busy store with only 3 managers. It became hell. We would take turns working doubles, and we would constantly overwork ourselves for the store.
We eventually got help. But that was when the expectations went up highly. We got a new FL and their values were completely different. No exceptions for overtime or for extra hours even though our store makes 11k+ instead of 4k+. We have to constantly send coworkers to work other stores 30 minutes away, when we’re the ones that are fucked. And if you even ask for any sort of gas compensation they tell you a lackluster ass way of getting reimbursed through an app, but they never really show you themselves. I’ve seen it too many times.
The FL once put up a fight with me saying that with 5 people I can send one and run a shift with 4 people, because apparently because sundays are the slowest days that makes it doable. We did that, and the guy who went to the other store an HOUR away said it was a huge waste of time they had hella workers. Corporate doesn’t really pay any attention before making decisions. And that night was so terrible.
If you’re someone who enjoys vacations, then good luck. You can be young fresh out of high school and they won’t care they’ll try and make you feel bad for “leaving them stranded.” It’s always an argument to get them to accept your Paid Time Off. Like where the gm grunts and moans about losing their bonus. I have a family vacation home I go to every year and the GM tried telling me “I’ll see what i can do” and i was like “nah bro theres no negotiation im going, i never get off work” and he was silent.
This job sucks. I’m 19, and I’m a service leader (shift lead basically) who has to run the store like a GM. Everyone comes to me with their problems because my bosses scare them. And I do all the deep cleaning. And if I don’t clean the fryer myself it’ll be dirty for weeks until I do it myself. I barely ever take off work for someone my age. All my friends have plans for weekend getaways and I can only dream of going.
I don’t know if all chipotles are the same. But I’m tired of being superman. I got a raise again but I’m very close to making the maximum amount you can at my position. I’m not trying to get promoted to do even more than I should, and to be tied down to this job even more.
I know I do such a damn good job running it yet they come in acting like the store is shit and terrible and that “i’m always replaceable.” Like if I’m so fucking replaceable, do it then. Fucking do it. That’s why everyone at my store respects me the most. I’ve come to realize that it’s a tactic to scare you straight, so yeah if they tell you that don’t listen it’s most likely bullshit and they wouldn’t want you to go. There is a shrinking middle class, and I’m sure in my area we are running out of people to hire or hire to manage. Chipotles all hang by a thread, and that’s off of maximizing all profit and overworking employees. They do not care about you. All they want is their quarterly bonuses.
If you work here, they won’t ever really tell you that you do a good job. Only things that “need to be worked on.” If they feel like you lose your drive then they lose interest in you.

Looking to buy first home. I really prefer being closer to a highway than way deep in a suburb. I currently rent in the 38002 area but there almost zero homes for sale here. They are either mark up to the moon or really zero realistic listings. I am keeping an out for foreclosures but that not for certain. I have seen a couple decent listings over in Millington and values seem to be dropping closer to covid levels adjusted for inflation. Though I have heard mix responses from the area. I plan on checking it out later this week but what the general response in 2023? Base on older posts I gather wifi is not cheap, more on the conservative side, has highway access, decent distance from the newer parts of Memphis, cheaper property taxes, more mainstream retail is moving in, and that about all I can find out so far. What Reddit take on the area? Are the cheaper prices worth the drive and people? I am a person of color but not really liberal or heavily conservative and tend to keep to myself. Ultimately looking for a quieter starter home.

Muffled voices start to speak and conversate from afar. The sound of a door snapping open can be heard. The voices continue to talk, replacing the sirens as they die out within another minute. Footsteps can be heard… and another door opens. Suddenly… the sensation of falling, tumbling, crashing down is overwhelming, too much to handle, everything sucked into the vat of nothingness.

Travis Crowley’s eyelids slowly unwind, sinking back into the depths of his face. The eyes peek out, his vision blurry as he regains consciousness. Head hurting like the dickens, he groans, taking his time reanimating. The DeadStar comes back to life, his body creaking as he moves for the first time in a while. As soon as he tries to sit up, he’s met by a hand to the chest, pressing him back down to where he was before. Confused, a nervous Travis tries to get up again, only to be forced back down. With his eyes adjusting to the light, voices have to ring out when it’s clear Travis is still out of his element. Travis finally starts to make out a figure just a foot away, sitting right beside him as they look toward someone else. The King of The Fall notices the afro quickly.
“Ramona-”
“Shh- I am so glad you’re back. Things have just been so hectic lately, i just-”
“Dizzi?”
Ramona turns and touches foreheads with Travis, softly pushing him back into the depths of bed once again. He winces as she rubs his head, confused as to why it hurts so much. She kisses him goodbye, before hugging Dizzi and telling them both she’ll be back. Ramona leaves, and Travis lets his head flop back as Dizzi pulls up a chair, Travis recognizes the room, realizing he’s back in Calabasas.
“Well, Travis. Looks like you’ve been staying busy”
Travis rolls his eyes, his friend smirking as she gets off the subtle shot at him. The DeadStar rolls over, finding and grabbing his phone off the nightstand. He checks the clock and stretches, seeing that it’s ten in the morning. He rubs his temples, feeling the headache come in even stronger than before.
“How has Sweden been?”
“Oh the usual. High fashion snobs and wannabe models. Not much different from what we got back at home.”
Travis smiles through his head pain, recalling his trip to Sweden a couple years back. What started out as a simple business trip to promote Obscuur Refurunces turned into an opportunity for Dizzi, and Travis was the first to suggest accepting.
“I guess that means you’re more qualified to run the brand than I am?”
“Oh please, let’s not go that far… I see what you’ve been up to, teasing those samples on Instagram. You've been working on something?”
“Maybe… I’ll show you later though. When did you get back to the States?”
“Studying abroad gets old after about nine months. Been trying to figure out when to take holiday, then poof. I get a call from Ramona, suddenly I need to pay respects to a friend as they lie on their deathbed…”
“Interesting way to say it…”
“You’ve got an interesting way to live life, bud…”
Travis sees the look in Dizzi’s eyes change. He sighs as she leans in, knowing the speech that’s going to ensue. The DeadStar grimaces as Dizzi locks eyes with him, already aware of what’s next. But suddenly, he feels another flash of pain in his head, in pure agony as he grabs at his temples. Dizzi’s face turns to one of concern, checking on Travis as he breaks a sweat trying to tough through it.
“What the Hell happened?”
“Y-you don’t know?”
Travis looks at her, his expression a mix of pain, frustration, and confusion. She looks back at him, quickly shaking the stumped look off her face. She quickly stands up, and walks away from the bed, turning toward the window.
“Dizzi what happened?”
“It doesn’t matter…”
“What do you MEAN it doesn’t matter???”
“Look, all that matters right now is that you rest, get better, and just stay safe. Everything else you can worry about later. And those are words I got from Ramona herself.”
Travis feels the pain in currents, using the opportunity of it subsiding to get moving. He sits up, swinging a leg out from under the covers. He sits there for a minute, ignoring as Dizzi shoots a glance at him every once in a while, masking it by tidying up the room. Travis wipes his eyes, trying to push through the pain. He’s wearing black shorts and a white shirt, socks keeping his feet protected from the cold hardwood floor. He lays back sideways on the bed, taking everything in.
“Are you okay, you need anything?”
Sirens.
“Ah man… lemme uh…”
Sirens.
“Could you pick up some donuts?”
“Sure, I could DoorDash some, maybe Krispy Kre-”
“Ah, actually. I was hoping to get them from that local place?”
“Local place?”
“You know, the local place. The place all three of us go to!”
“... Frankie’s?”
“Yeah, that’s the place. They got special flavors, let’s get a dozen from there!”
“How is that local, isn’t it like an hour away from here?”
“You can take my car!”
Travis smiles through the head pain, feeling it at excruciating levels at this point. The DeadStar questions if this will be the death of him as he grins at Dizzi, his expression backing her into a corner as she reluctantly agrees to go make a pastry run. Grabbing the keys off the hook on the bedroom wall, she waves Travis goodbye before leaving out the front door. Travis takes a deep breath, before standing up out of bed, rubbing his temple yet again as he takes a couple steps forward, He looks down at the view below, watching from the window as Dizzi opens the garage door. Travis makes sure he can’t be seen as she drives the car out from the garage and down the hill, soon disappearing from the mess of land altogether. Travis leans against the windowsill, taking in the view for a couple minutes. Getting his thoughts together, he grabs his phone, sitting down on the edge of the bed. Part of him doesn’t even want to open it. Part of him doesn’t want to find out what the Hell happened, how he ended up on his deathbed like how Dizzi described. But he pushes ahead, unlocking in with his fingerprint and immediately being blasted with a headline that sends a shiver down his spine.
“FBE Recap: Ethan Fadley Attacks Travis Crowley… Leaves Firestorm 118 without a Main Event!”
Travis’ eye twitches, noticing the thumbnail accompanying the headline. Ethan Fadley holding up the Intercontinental Championship, a crazed look in his eye. Dark blue strap in his grip as he makes a grab for the camera in the picture. Slowly, Travis pieces it together, all while the pain returns in his head, stinging like the dickens as he closes his phone. He makes his way over to the closet, trading in the shorts for some jeans and slipping into some Vans. Throwing a random shirt over his shoulder, he stuffs a travel bag full of random toiletries and clothes, and grabs his phone off the bed in a hurry, making a call as he jets out the door.
“Hello?”
“Ape!”
“Yo, what’s going on man? You good, you alright?”
“Doing fine. What happened after the show?”
“Conor had Irish police escort the ambulance to the hospital. We all got airlifted back to LA. I wanted to drive up and stay with you guys while you got better… didn’t feel right though.”
“Please tell me you’re still out here…”
“Yeah, I've been hiding out. Wanted to wait till you were up and awake before I made the next move. Crenshaw Inn Motel.”
“I’m there”
Travis keeps Ape on the phone as he walks into the garage, swinging his leg over his chopper, only to feel woozy from just doing that. The head pain is too much, shooting out to every inch and corner of Travis’ mind, keeping him off his game. Shaking his head in a desperate attempt to regain balance, he slowly slides off the motorcycle, leaning against it and breathing hard as Ape checks up on him.
“Matter fact, uh… I might get a cab”
“I’ll come to you then, I’ll have them pick you up, we’ll grab breakfast and talk.”
“Bet, thanks bro.”
Travis sits in the driveway, waiting for his friend to arrive in the cab. Worried that Dizzi or Ramona might show up before Ape and intercept him, he’s relieved to get a call from his best friend and see a yellow cab pulling up in front of the house. Travis slips on the shirt and jumps into the backseat, dapping up Ape as they quickly speed off from the scene.

Travis hangs up the phone, putting it on silent just in case Ramona or Dizzi call again. The DeadStar looks out the window of the motel, playing with the blinds as he watches city slickers make their way past his view. Sitting on one of the double beds is Ape, opening a box of delicacies from Frankie’s Donut Palace. Biting into an eclair, he suggests they get some air, opening the mini fridge and opening a can of pop. Travis takes one more look out the window, before turning around, facing the pastries now. Seeing a bear claw in the corner, he picks it up, taking his first bite of the day as Ape checks his phone. Travis makes his way out of the motel room, Ape saying he had to make a call before he joined him.
Travis stands in the parking lot of the motel, finishing off the bear claw in one hand with a joint in the other. Looking down at himself, he realizes that he’s got his shirt on inside out. Moving to fix it the right way, the DeadStar suddenly scowls and stops, seeing a familiar design. The REVOLT Summer World Tour from the year before sold out immediately, becoming a legendary piece of FBE memorabilia after its limited run. Now it’s just a bad memory for the King of The Fall. Travis shakes his head in annoyance, pulling from the joint as Ape closes the motel room door behind him. Together, they stand in silence, leaning against the beams supporting the roof covering the motel walkways. The pain creeps in, making a return as Travis starts to see red for a completely different reason.
“He almost ended my career…”
“I know…”
Sirens.
“He left me bloody… he left STEEZ bloody… he ruined everything...”
“I know…”
Sirens.
“I stepped aside for this motherfucker, not once, but TWICE. I let him be big dog. I put my glory to the side for HIM. Because that was MY BROTHER. And he…”
“I know…”
Sirens.
Travis has a thousand yard stare on his face, the pain fighting him on the inside as he carries no expression. Clenching his jaw, he takes a deep breath, waiting as it subsides. He pulls up his phone and immediately pulls up tickets to Scotland. Ape, looking over his shoulder in curiosity, looks at Travis in shock.
“Dude, you’re going to Firestorm???”
“I’m getting my title back. And I’m ripping Ethan’s fucking head off.”
“Bro-”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t expect me to do this.”
Ape looks at Travis, worried. Travis stares hard, doing his best to pull a stone-like expression on his face. The Infinity Ace sighs, nodding as he understands that there’s no going back after what has happened between Ethan and the rest of what used to be REVOLT. He throws an arm around Travis, leading him back in the motel room, gathering both their bags.
“...Get me a ticket.”

“Jesus Christ, where the fuck is he, man?”
“Just give him a second, bro. He’ll be here. I know he’ll be here. By the way, how’s your head?”
Travis and Ape stand outside a side door of St. Andrews Golf Club, waiting for a bit of help from an inside man. Ape dialed up Code Blue asking for help getting into the prestigious golf club with the show already in progress. Now, it’s just up to him to get Highly Suspect in. Travis paces back and forth as they wait for what feels like an eternity, only for Blue to suddenly appear, waving them in. Ape smiles, but an irritated Travis rolls his eyes.
“Is the show over? Wouldn’t be surprised since it took so damn long.”
“Oh, c’mon Travis. I was on the other side of the building. Had to rush getting over here. You know, I got my own match to prepare for too, right? I got priorities just like everyone else."
“Shut the fuck up, Blue”
“You better watch your fucking mouth,”
“I will slap the shit out of-”
“I’m not afraid of you, Travis. Don’t you ever get that confused…”
Blue, who was walking along with everyone else through the hall, suddenly stops and locks eyes with Travis. Not budging, he stares down the King of The Fall, who stares back at him with venom and anger. Ape gets in between them, Travis grabbing onto Ape as he yells at Blue.
“Motherfucker, you think this is about fear? I don’t give a FUCK if you’re afraid of me, I’ll change that if I WANT! Back up-
“Stop, STOP! BOTH OF YOU!”
“Ah, screw this-”
Travis darts around Ape, shoving past Code Blue and doing the dash down the hall. Ape calls after Travis, beginning to race after him when he realizes it’s no use using words. Crowley crashes Guerrilla and busts through the curtain, racing down the aisle as the crowd yell out in shock. Travis slides into the ring and blasts the special guest announcer, taking his mic as the audience fully explodes once they realize who’s back. With the pain and shadows overloading his senses, Travis powers through as he runs his hand through his hair.

The announcer gets back to his feet, shocked at the audacity. He tells off Travis, asking him if he knows who he is, ONLY TO GET HIT WITH A SSWEET CHIN MUSIC! HOLY FUCK! Travis stares down at the dark green suit tumbling through the ropes as Ape suddenly appears by him, grabbing and telling him they need to go. Travis rips himself free, and grips the ropes, repeating what he said, demanding Ethan Fadley. And speak of the Devil…
… Who else joins them but the Son of Roses. Noticeably without the Intercontinental Championship, Ethan smiles as Travis seemingly gets more rowdy and unhinged, Ape unable to contain the DeadStar. Mic in hand, the former best friend of Highly Suspect asks how exactly they got into the show so late. Ape tries to tell off Ethan while Travis begins to lose control, but it’s no use. Ethan continues to talk, saying regardless of how they pulled it off, he’s glad they’re here to witness the Aether Aces rule yet another night. After last week’s conquest, it’s time for Inferno to embarrass Code Blue and walk out, still World Champion.
“But you didn’t come for that… did you, Cowboy?”
Ethan smirks as Travis trembles with anger, unable to even listen to or recognize Ape trying to hold him back. Fadley knows he’s pushing his former friend to the edge.
“No… I know what you came for… the first challenger for none other than the NEW INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION… BESTOWED UPON HIM BY HIS FELLOW AETHER ACES… THE HOMETOWN HERO, JAY CASTLE!”
Travis freezes as Jay Castle enters, holding up the Intercontinental Championship in all its glory. Crowley’s pride and joy. After seeing the collapse of REVOLT from a TV screen, falling off the map of relevancy. Only to crawl back, and become Grand Slam Intercontinental Champion. It was all Travis had left. And they TOOK that from him. The King of The Fall locks eyes with Jay Castle, only to get pulled away by Ethan’s words yet again.
“And if you weren’t up to date with the news, Cowboy? Not only has Jay Castle dethroned you for the Intercontinental Championship… he’s going to kill your World Championship aspirations, by knocking you out full stop, FIRST ROUND of the Heyman Classic.”
Travis and Ape take in the news, staring down Jay Castle and Ethan as they reach ringside. With the crowd bursting with energy, and tension rising with every second, Travis sinks into the pain and madness, shoving Ape out of the way as he charges, leaping out to the Aether Aces without a care in the world…
… And that’s when the DeadStar snaps…

The darkness accompanies the sharp bursts of noise cutting through the air. Rumbling is present below on the ground. Everything is murky, blurred, disjointed.
Muffled voices start to speak and conversate from afar. The sound of a door snapping open can be heard. The voices continue to talk, replacing the sirens as they die out within another minute. Footsteps can be heard… and another door opens. Suddenly… the sensation of falling, tumbling, crashing down is overwhelming, too much to handle, everything sucked into the vat of nothingness.

Travis Crowley’s eyelids slowly unwind, sinking back into the depths of his face. The eyes peek out, his vision blurry as he regains consciousness. Head hurting like the dickens, he groans, taking his time reanimating. The DeadStar comes back to life, his body creaking as he moves for the first time in a while. As soon as he tries to sit up, he’s met by a hand to the chest, pressing him back down to where he was before. Confused, a nervous Travis tries to get up again, only to be forced back down. With his eyes adjusting to the light, voices have to ring out when it’s clear Travis is still out of his element. Travis finally starts to make out a figure just a foot away, sitting right beside him as they look toward someone else. The King of The Fall notices the afro quickly.
“Ramona-”
“Shh- I am so glad you’re back. Things have just been so hectic lately, i just-”
“Dizzi?”
Ramona turns and touches foreheads with Travis, softly pushing him back into the depths of bed once again. He winces as she rubs his head, confused as to why it hurts so much. She kisses him goodbye, before hugging Dizzi and telling them both she’ll be back. Ramona leaves, and Travis lets his head flop back as Dizzi pulls up a chair, Travis recognizes the room, realizing he’s back in Calabasas.
“Well, Travis. Looks like you’ve been staying busy”
Travis rolls his eyes, his friend smirking as she gets off the subtle shot at him. The DeadStar rolls over, finding and grabbing his phone off the nightstand. He checks the clock and stretches, seeing that it’s ten in the morning. He rubs his temples, feeling the headache come in even stronger than before.
“How has Sweden been?”
“Oh the usual. High fashion snobs and wannabe models. Not much different from what we got back at home.”
Travis smiles through his head pain, recalling his trip to Sweden a couple years back. What started out as a simple business trip to promote Obscuur Refurunces turned into an opportunity for Dizzi, and Travis was the first to suggest accepting.
“I guess that means you’re more qualified to run the brand than I am?”
“Oh please, let’s not go that far… I see what you’ve been up to, teasing those samples on Instagram. You've been working on something?”
“Maybe… I’ll show you later though. When did you get back to the States?”
“Studying abroad gets old after about nine months. Been trying to figure out when to take holiday, then poof. I get a call from Ramona, suddenly I need to pay respects to a friend as they lie on their deathbed…”
“Interesting way to say it…”
“You’ve got an interesting way to live life, bud…”
Travis sees the look in Dizzi’s eyes change. He sighs as she leans in, knowing the speech that’s going to ensue. The DeadStar grimaces as Dizzi locks eyes with him, already aware of what’s next. But suddenly, he feels another flash of pain in his head, in pure agony as he grabs at his temples. Dizzi’s face turns to one of concern, checking on Travis as he breaks a sweat trying to tough through it.
“What the Hell happened?”
“Y-you don’t know?”
Travis looks at her, his expression a mix of pain, frustration, and confusion. She looks back at him, quickly shaking the stumped look off her face. She quickly stands up, and walks away from the bed, turning toward the window.
“Dizzi what happened?”
“It doesn’t matter…”
“What do you MEAN it doesn’t matter???”
“Look, all that matters right now is that you rest, get better, and just stay safe. Everything else you can worry about later. And those are words I got from Ramona herself.”
Travis feels the pain in currents, using the opportunity of it subsiding to get moving. He sits up, swinging a leg out from under the covers. He sits there for a minute, ignoring as Dizzi shoots a glance at him every once in a while, masking it by tidying up the room. Travis wipes his eyes, trying to push through the pain. He’s wearing black shorts and a white shirt, socks keeping his feet protected from the cold hardwood floor. He lays back sideways on the bed, taking everything in.
“Are you okay, you need anything?”
Sirens.
“Ah man… lemme uh…”
Sirens.
“Could you pick up some donuts?”
“Sure, I could DoorDash some, maybe Krispy Kre-”
“Ah, actually. I was hoping to get them from that local place?”
“Local place?”
“You know, the local place. The place all three of us go to!”
“... Frankie’s?”
“Yeah, that’s the place. They got special flavors, let’s get a dozen from there!”
“How is that local, isn’t it like an hour away from here?”
“You can take my car!”
Travis smiles through the head pain, feeling it at excruciating levels at this point. The DeadStar questions if this will be the death of him as he grins at Dizzi, his expression backing her into a corner as she reluctantly agrees to go make a pastry run. Grabbing the keys off the hook on the bedroom wall, she waves Travis goodbye before leaving out the front door. Travis takes a deep breath, before standing up out of bed, rubbing his temple yet again as he takes a couple steps forward, He looks down at the view below, watching from the window as Dizzi opens the garage door. Travis makes sure he can’t be seen as she drives the car out from the garage and down the hill, soon disappearing from the mess of land altogether. Travis leans against the windowsill, taking in the view for a couple minutes. Getting his thoughts together, he grabs his phone, sitting down on the edge of the bed. Part of him doesn’t even want to open it. Part of him doesn’t want to find out what the Hell happened, how he ended up on his deathbed like how Dizzi described. But he pushes ahead, unlocking in with his fingerprint and immediately being blasted with a headline that sends a shiver down his spine.
“FBE Recap: Ethan Fadley Attacks Travis Crowley… Leaves Firestorm 118 without a Main Event!”
Travis’ eye twitches, noticing the thumbnail accompanying the headline. Ethan Fadley holding up the Intercontinental Championship, a crazed look in his eye. Dark blue strap in his grip as he makes a grab for the camera in the picture. Slowly, Travis pieces it together, all while the pain returns in his head, stinging like the dickens as he closes his phone. He makes his way over to the closet, trading in the shorts for some jeans and slipping into some Vans. Throwing a random shirt over his shoulder, he stuffs a travel bag full of random toiletries and clothes, and grabs his phone off the bed in a hurry, making a call as he jets out the door.
“Hello?”
“Ape!”
“Yo, what’s going on man? You good, you alright?”
“Doing fine. What happened after the show?”
“Conor had Irish police escort the ambulance to the hospital. We all got airlifted back to LA. I wanted to drive up and stay with you guys while you got better… didn’t feel right though.”
“Please tell me you’re still out here…”
“Yeah, I've been hiding out. Wanted to wait till you were up and awake before I made the next move. Crenshaw Inn Motel.”
“I’m there”
Travis keeps Ape on the phone as he walks into the garage, swinging his leg over his chopper, only to feel woozy from just doing that. The head pain is too much, shooting out to every inch and corner of Travis’ mind, keeping him off his game. Shaking his head in a desperate attempt to regain balance, he slowly slides off the motorcycle, leaning against it and breathing hard as Ape checks up on him.
“Matter fact, uh… I might get a cab”
“I’ll come to you then, I’ll have them pick you up, we’ll grab breakfast and talk.”
“Bet, thanks bro.”
Travis sits in the driveway, waiting for his friend to arrive in the cab. Worried that Dizzi or Ramona might show up before Ape and intercept him, he’s relieved to get a call from his best friend and see a yellow cab pulling up in front of the house. Travis slips on the shirt and jumps into the backseat, dapping up Ape as they quickly speed off from the scene.

Travis hangs up the phone, putting it on silent just in case Ramona or Dizzi call again. The DeadStar looks out the window of the motel, playing with the blinds as he watches city slickers make their way past his view. Sitting on one of the double beds is Ape, opening a box of delicacies from Frankie’s Donut Palace. Biting into an eclair, he suggests they get some air, opening the mini fridge and opening a can of pop. Travis takes one more look out the window, before turning around, facing the pastries now. Seeing a bear claw in the corner, he picks it up, taking his first bite of the day as Ape checks his phone. Travis makes his way out of the motel room, Ape saying he had to make a call before he joined him.
Travis stands in the parking lot of the motel, finishing off the bear claw in one hand with a joint in the other. Looking down at himself, he realizes that he’s got his shirt on inside out. Moving to fix it the right way, the DeadStar suddenly scowls and stops, seeing a familiar design. The REVOLT Summer World Tour from the year before sold out immediately, becoming a legendary piece of FBE memorabilia after its limited run. Now it’s just a bad memory for the King of The Fall. Travis shakes his head in annoyance, pulling from the joint as Ape closes the motel room door behind him. Together, they stand in silence, leaning against the beams supporting the roof covering the motel walkways. The pain creeps in, making a return as Travis starts to see red for a completely different reason.
“He almost ended my career…”
“I know…”
Sirens.
“He left me bloody… he left STEEZ bloody… he ruined everything...”
“I know…”
Sirens.
“I stepped aside for this motherfucker, not once, but TWICE. I let him be big dog. I put my glory to the side for HIM. Because that was MY BROTHER. And he…”
“I know…”

Travis has a thousand yard stare on his face, the pain fighting him on the inside as he carries no expression. Clenching his jaw, he takes a deep breath, waiting as it subsides. He pulls up his phone and immediately pulls up tickets to Scotland. Ape, looking over his shoulder in curiosity, looks at Travis in shock.
“Dude, you’re going to Firestorm???”
“I’m getting my title back. And I’m ripping Ethan’s fucking head off.”
“Bro-”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t expect me to do this.”
Ape looks at Travis, worried. Travis stares hard, doing his best to pull a stone-like expression on his face. The Infinity Ace sighs, nodding as he understands that there’s no going back after what has happened between Ethan and the rest of what used to be REVOLT. He throws an arm around Travis, leading him back in the motel room, gathering both their bags.
“...Get me a ticket.”

“Jesus Christ, where the fuck is he, man?”
“Just give him a second, bro. He’ll be here. I know he’ll be here. By the way, how’s your head?”
Travis and Ape stand outside a side door of St. Andrews Golf Club, waiting for a bit of help from an inside man. Ape dialed up Code Blue asking for help getting into the prestigious golf club with the show already in progress. Now, it’s just up to him to get Highly Suspect in. Travis paces back and forth as they wait for what feels like an eternity, only for Blue to suddenly appear, waving them in. Ape smiles, but an irritated Travis rolls his eyes.
“Is the show over? Wouldn’t be surprised since it took so damn long.”
“Oh, c’mon Travis. I was on the other side of the building. Had to rush getting over here. You know, I got my own match to prepare for too, right? I got priorities just like everyone else."
“Shut the fuck up, Blue”
“You better watch your fucking mouth,”
“I will slap the shit out of-”
“I’m not afraid of you, Travis. Don’t you ever get that confused…”
Blue, who was walking along with everyone else through the hall, suddenly stops and locks eyes with Travis. Not budging, he stares down the King of The Fall, who stares back at him with venom and anger. Ape gets in between them, Travis grabbing onto Ape as he yells at Blue.
“Motherfucker, you think this is about fear? I don’t give a FUCK if you’re afraid of me, I’ll change that if I WANT! Back up-
“Stop, STOP! BOTH OF YOU!”

Crowley crashes Guerrilla and busts through the curtain, racing down the aisle as the crowd yell out in shock. Travis slides into the ring and blasts the special guest announcer, taking his mic as the audience fully explodes once they realize who’s back. With the pain and shadows overloading his senses, Travis powers through as he runs his hand through his hair.

St. John Ambulance (SJA) Canada is offering a 2-hour Opioid Poisoning Response Training (OPRT) program that offers FREE online training and nasal naloxone to participants across Canada. The program consists of a 2-hour course delivered in a virtual classroom, which includes information on:
• Stigma & Harm Reduction
• How to respond to an opioid poisoning
• How to administer nasal naloxone
• Self-Care after a Traumatic Event
Participants who complete the course will receive free a nasal naloxone kit for use in an emergency. Naloxone is mailed and paid for by SJA. Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses the effects of opioids on the brain. It is an important tool that can save the life of someone experiencing an opioid poisoning.

I've got the below tentative itinerary for an 11 day trip. Curious if anyone has any thoughts along the lines of not doing one thing, or not mixing certain things together. It will be my wife and I and our 3 year old and we move from a place in the 11th to a place by the Opera part of the way through the trip.
The only day I see as particularly rushed is the Eiffel Tower day where we're trying to get a lot done and may well not even be able to get tickets that work into that timeline, so I'm somewhat expecting a walk down Champs Elysees to get bumped to another day.
Also relevant is the fact that the 29th is our son's birthday and we're trying to work a little something in there, but I'm not sure what. At a minimum finding a cake or similar from a bakery, but I'd be open to recommendations for nice ways to celebrate without going wild (since we're going to Disney a few days later anyway).

Hi I’m 27 (f) in Ohio and I recently just had my 2nd and only other life long best friend pass away in January
I’m currently working a wfh tech sales job which has been pretty nice but the stress to hit the sales goals has bit me in the ass while I was grieving and I’m fairly close to being let go
I took a leap of faith and decided to spread my friends ashes in Thailand for a full month solo travel in July
My job obviously won’t allow me to take a full month and with me being in a hot seat because of sales nor will a doctor sign off on it (smh) I figured maybe it’s best I just quit for a mental health break
I have about 30k saved up as a fall back so I’m not without a safety net but I am terrified to have no back up job as I’ve been cushioned with the wfh life and lots of people are saying I’ll be stuck looking for work in this recession…
Do I start a business, do I leave the country? I have 0 clue what I’m doing and I’m single too so no children or anything holding me here; I just know I HAVE to go solo backpacking in my friends honor, after that I’m not sure
